If you see Manny Ramirez coming, cross over to the other side of the street

Manny Ramirez lived the fantasy of millions a few weeks ago when he slapped around Kevin Youkilis for acting like a spoiled brat.
But on Sunday, he crossed the line when he knocked traveling secretary Jack McCormick to the ground. Manny was upset that he couldn’t get 16 tickets to the game.
What’s next for Manny? Sully, Sully Jr. and the rest of the Red Sox fans have to be careful of what they say to the surly slugger or he could come up in the stands at Fenway Park.
Send Coach Belichick over there, he’ll straighten him out.

This is strictly one of the reasons he never would have worked out in NY, he is sensitive and would be around his old crew in Washington Heights.
Repost:
Challenge for the day: Use Manny and ‘knock’ in a sentence. Looking for a KO from Nick in SF.
Manny being Manny?
For a guy supposedly on his best behavior in a contract year, Manny’s two fights seem to be strange way of impressing Theo.
boy…i loved that pimp slap that he gave Youkilis. he sure lived my fantasy. I HATE Youkilis and his size 12 chin.
UM, this is a Yankees blog, let’s keep the content to that. I personally don’t care about the Mets, Red Sox or any of these other trashy teams and their personnel. If I wanted this info there are plenty of outlets I could go to; I would rather hear about our switch pitcher or something else.
Manny being Manny: Fisticuffs in contract year.
The Greek Of Walk had it coming.
ROID RAGE.
Andrew,
I hope the people who have you tied down and your eyes taped open and are making you read this website release you from your capture soon……
Andrew: Go away then.
“Let’s keep the content to that”? Are you serious with the attitude?
Manny being Manny
And they said no further discipline is necessary. Um was he disciplined? Or they afraid he’ll crawl into a ball and refused to play anymore games?
LOL @ Ray.
The Red Sox really ought to sit him for a game, apology accepted notwithstanding.
If it was Alex Cora who did it, they would DFA him in a heartbeat.
We all know that Manny has different rules than everybody else on that team.
However, for a team so into PR like the Red Sox, letting him off with no punishment seems a little weak to me.
Hey Andrew,
Go back into your parent’s basement and start your own blog.
Manny couldn’t afford to just go ahead and buy the tickets? Weed must be expensive these days if he has no money left.
raymagnetic,
Pete needs to contact CPS. This is definitely child abuse.
Andrew- Other people on here want to read about that. If you don’t like it skip it. SIMPLE
09 Yanks Lineup:
7 Damon
6 Jeter
5 Arod
3 Texiera
9 Manny Being Manny
2 Posada
DH Matsui
4 Cano
8 Cabrera
Yea, coach Belichick is a great guy, he’ll have a clean solution for that problem….just ask his former wife and Roger Goodell….but anyways, rare to see Manny blow up like that…he’s pretty carefree on the whole…..as a Yankee fan he just drops another notch in my book.
Wow, you guys are harsh today!
Is it the heat or the holiday weekend?
LOL raymagnetic
or DH Manny and RF Matsui (if he’s able to walk by then…if not; Abreu RF/Manram DH)
I’m liking manny these days. he is beating up red sox nation one man at a time. I like anyone who hits youkilis is fine by me
“Is it the heat or the holiday weekend?”
holiday weekend. i have off wed-fri, so at this point, i feel like my week is already over. where’s the BBQ and the Sam Adams?
I know why everyone rips on Belllichek but lets be honest, he’s the best coach in the NFL right now.
As long as you have 16 tickets to give Manny and not throw equipment after your bad AB’s, he’s fine.
If you can’t cough up the tickets or throw equipment in his direction after you K, look out. He will go Sprewell on you!
Jennifer the really funny thing is that The METS announcers did the same thing which neither the caller nor the host (Chris Russo) knew about. I knew about it as it was in Neil Best’s blog this AM quoting what Keith and Gary said about him.
But why let the truth cloud a good argument on sports talk radio
Interesting tidbit from espn.com preview. Hope the trend holds up tonight:
Mussina is 6-0 with a 2.72 ERA in his last nine starts against the Rangers, last losing to them on May 18, 2003. His 17 career wins versus Texas are tied with Boston’s Bartolo Colon and San Francisco’s Barry Zito for the most among active pitchers.
In reading the earlier post by Pete regarding the medical condition of Bobby Murcer as he fights and struggles against brain cancer, it only amplifies the contrast between men of character and dignity like Bobby and pieces of garbage like Manny who because he can hit a baseball is paid millions of dollars but when it comes to being a person of character couldn’t hold Bobby’s jock.
I think showing up your teammate and trying to distract your opponent so he loses his concentration and commits an error,Are two different fruit loops.
SO who will Manny fight next?
Theo? Beckett? Papsmear? Ooh..maybe Peter Gammons?
SJ,
Let’s leave Sprewell out of this. He was just trying to feed his family.
just another case of Manny being Shawn Chacon.
when are they going to release him? i’m wondering.
gayle
Someone in the studio must have just told him.
I hope the sports radio and TV hammer this hard. When Chacon got let go for his altercation with his GM it was deserved. While Manny will get a pass because of his bat, it should still mean a suspension for him.
One game isn’t enough, IMO. What does one game do? He gets nights off here and there, so what difference would it be to suspend him one game?
One guy who does this loses his career, the other gets a slap on the wrist. Why? Because it was someone not high up in the organization?
I don’t see him being DFA’d over this, but it puts the whole Youkilis incident into a different light. There is more to this whole thing.
I think the first thing that MLB should do is require a drug testing on him. When you general personality changes like that, there is usually a root cause. Drugs could do this. Personal issues could do this.
Passing it off as Manny being Manny doesn’t cut it.
Now Russo is mentioning that the Mets people said something…referring to Newsday
Would have been nice if he knew that in the first place.
another rule you didn’t mention is: never bully a single member. if you’re so tough, go fight him in public.
Rebecca: Think you missed this, but Igawa’s 4 mil this year isn’t all that much of a waste, relatively speaking. He’d be tied for 13th in this year’s salary with Wang.
For this season…
A-Rod’s making 27 mil
Giambi’s making 21 mil
Jeter’s making 20 mil
(congratulations, the above 3 alone make more than some whole rosters do this year!)
Abreu’s making 16 mil
Pettitte’s making 16 mil
Mo’s making 15 mil
Posada’s making 13.1 mil
(guys, we’re at 128.1 million after 7 players)
Damon’s making 13 mil
Matsui’s making 13 mil
Moose’s making 11 mil
Pavano’s aforementioned 11 mil
(176 million after 11 players)
(NOW we’re finally getting to players who are making less than 10 million this year)
Farnsy gets 5.5 mil
Wang gets 4 mil
Igawa’s aforementioned 4 mil
Latroy’s 3.75 mil
Cano’s 3 mil
Molina’s 1.75 mil
Betemit’s 1.165 mil
Bruney’s 0.725 mil
Melky’s 0.4612 mil
Giese’s 0.4125 mil
Duncan’s 0.3983 mil
Kennedy’s 0.394 mil
Karstens’s 0.3933 mil
Albie’s 0.3932 mil
Ollie’s 0.391 mil
Joba’s 0.39 mil
Miranda’s 0.39 mil
Sanchez’s 0.39 mil
Manny will never be a yankee! NEVER MEANS NEVER!!
Now we need a new catcher? Who is the call screener for WFAN?
Eugie called this correctly in the first reply: It is doubtlessly ‘roid rage, at least to an extent. We can’t compare him to Chacon, as Shawn played for a lousy team and had just been kicked out of the rotation, with a runt GM screaming cursewords while he was trying to eat his hamburger. Manny, on the other hand, couldn’t control his anger when he did not get what he wanted.
The Sox aren’t going to release him, of course. Funny thing, though: Papa Steinbrenner, circa 1978, just might have.
i thing giambi makes more then 21 million this season
Blargh the good news is the ywill lose about $80 mill of contracts after thi yr….
people bitch and moan at Melky and his $460 k, but are any of our big boys worth there paycheck??? Mo, anyone else???
i think
example of crappy guys finishing first, the fans still love him as well as red sox organization. I guess people will take alot of crap shoveled on them if the guy will help bring home a championship.
Maddog spending exactly no time on Manny choking the guy……..
Belichick?? he will just cheat some more and blatantly lie about injuries
Giambi’s contract says 21 million for the 2008 season
Though if you buy the guy out before this calendar year ends, then yea, add another 5 million, but that’s technically for buying out the 2009 season
Now we need a new catcher? Who is the call screener for WFAN?
Because Posada isn’t clutch duh
Stuart: Have you looked at Mo’s numbers this year? They’re unreal. His WHIP is like 0.55, and his K/BB ratio is 14
LOL
Hey, the guy deserved it. He din’t get me what I wanted. It was all handled internally, a cage match between me and him. Dare’s no problem… move along now afore I bop you.
you people need to let go of salary numbers and their correlation to performance. they are completely unrelated.
Hank and company embarrassed Torre by flying him down to Tampa?
Not this again..
Someone email it to him.
@S.A. – The next time Chris Russo has any knowledge or insight into sports will be his first. Aside from his ability to conduct a quality, he is practically worthless. And his partner is pretty annoying too. At least Baningo and Roberts know what they are talking about and don’t think they are the greatest thing ever.
Where did Andrew go?
Blargh –
As you probably know it was the $26 mil posting fee that the Yanks paid to his Japanese team just for the rights to talk to Igawa that was the big waste.
The $4 mil per is also a waste, but the $26 mil is only $14 mil less than was wasted on Pavano. Altogether what was shelled out for Igawa (salary plus posting fee) is actually more of a monetary waste than Pavano.
Still, Pavano takes the proverbial cake. At least Igawa shows up when asked to, even though he pitches so bad the team is better off when he doesn’t show up.
That was “conduct a quality interview”
With a mega contract comes mega expectations and mega spotlight… (part of why we all make fun of Zito, for that matter)
Speaking of which, Jeter, I know you got the intangibles thing and all that, but for 20 million this year (and 20 million in 2009, and 21 million and 2010), I expect some tangibles to be packaged too.
That should be 21 million in 2010
ANSKY: Well said!
Anyone else having a hard time getting used to Jorge on the diamond without his gear?
He seems to be taking it well. You know if his shoulder was good, he’d balk at doing it. Of course, he wouldn’t need to move if that were the case. But in the future, the transition will be much easier.
I bet Manny gets the tickets next time.
“If it was Alex Cora who did it, they would DFA him in a heartbeat.
We all know that Manny has different rules than everybody else on that team”
So does Arod, Jeter, etc.
If Betemit did the same thing here? He’s a goner. If Arod does? Apology accepted, period.
Let’s not pretend the Yankees put character ahead of production. Never have and they won’t start now.
Billy I think he was scared away.
“Roberts know what they are talking about and don’t think they are the greatest thing ever.”
I really don’t like Roberts. He just gets on my nerves. I like Benigno though and wish he was by himself again.
Russo just makes me laugh with what he says. He really is clueless and ya just have to giggle at him.
Yeah Jeter doesn’t have tangibles.. are you out of your mind?
I can see how Roberts can get on your nerves; he certainly can be annoying, but he is getting better and better as he gets more experience. Benigno on the overnight was a great show.
The thing is Fredo, can you even imagine any of the Yankee stars doing something like Manny did? A-rod, Giambi, Jeter, Mariano, Posada .. those guys would never do something like that. I’m sure fights go on between players but to attack the travel secretary over a few free tickets? Thats just low.
The thing about the 26 million posting fee going to Hanshin, which while it is a big waste anyway, is that it doesn’t count on the payroll and thus it avoids getting luxury tax’d. I don’t know what the soft cap is this year or what the rate is, but while the payroll for this year is in the area of 220 million to the players officially, there’s still even more being doled out, this time to the league, thanks to the tax.
So yes, it’s a big waste in the first place, but there’s still more and bigger wastes on the roster.
I guess.
Though I wish Roberts would get more experience say…during the overnight when I am sleeping.
Oh well, maybe he will grow on me…like fungus.
hmmmmmmm Sounds like the Boras plan to get Sheff out of his deal in LA.
I sort of like having Posada at first at times. I have noticed that when he has been out there he tends to go to the mound a few times. I am sure his perspective from there may help him see things perhaps.
Re tickets it is my understanding that new rules were passed that players only get a certain amount of tickets and anything beyond that they have to pay for. I think it had to do with tax issues (I may b e wrong the reasoning behind it) but I know that the rules were changed a few years ago.
on http://sportsnynj.blogspot.com/
there is a good post about pettitte
Anybody see on rotoworld how the Red Sox are having extra Law enforcement while traveling after threats to the Black and Latin players.2 were named.
Hope nothing comes of this.
what a moron
Juice head.
Is this for real?
I always thought Manny was a misunderstood slacker, not some randy johnson nutcase who gets violent over nothing.
Are what tangibles Jeter’s bringing worth anywhere near 20 mil? Quick check at his stats saying he’s got an OPS+ of 98
“It was an unfortunate misunderstanding and it’s over with as far as I’m concerned.” Jack McCormick
Read: They paid me a bunch of money so I shut up about it.
Patrick:
No I cannot imagine it.
My point was that given a similar set of circumastances, the punishment for a Betemit and the punishment for Jeter would be different.
Doesn’t make it right, but that’s the reality.
“Are what tangibles Jeter’s bringing worth anywhere near 20 mil? Quick check at his stats saying he’s got an OPS+ of 98″
It’s called ‘Paying your Captain more than he’s worth to reward him for his past service’. He’s a Yankee, and he’ll retire a Yankee. They’re paying him more for his (eventual) career Yankee records than his actual production, at this point.
JK,
Manny has been campaigning for Boston to pick up the option years. He even worked out this offseason and reported to training camp on time – which he never does.
gayle,
Yeah, he looks good out there, especially on that screaming liner.
It’s just that his neck looks that much longer without his mask. Just kidding!
Listening to Hinske preview the Red Sox series with the Rays. He hopes that Paps was kidding about it not being over.
Funny that if you are a struggling pitcher and you choke your GM then they can void your contract. But if you can hit and lead your team to two championships and you commit battery on the asst traveling secretary, the team tries to hush it up saying it is an internal matter.
Let’s look at the circumstances that started the whole. thing. So Manny goes to the guy the day of a game and says he needs 16 tickets. Is it me or does that seem like a ridiculous request? Did he not know that he needed those before Saturday? Oh that’s right this is Manny we are talking about. The man-child hitting genius or idiot-savant whichever term you prefer. Let’s se how the Boston Media plays this I think this is going to get big in the next couple of days after it sinks in.
If I were D. Fehr I would use this to fight Chacon’s battle to keep his contract. It is a gross disparity in the way the two incidents have been treated.
Let me just add that I am not defending Chacon, but merely pointing out the disparity in the way the 2 incidents were haqndled.
Quick check at his stats say he’s a career 121 OPS+ out of the shortstop position.
If you think he’s going to finish the season at 98 OPS+ you are wrong.
Maybe he’s not worth 20 mil but he is the captain of the team and probably worth near 20.
Rebecca Mo is worth it, maybe you misunderstood my post.. Even at the insane $15 mill Mo is worth it….
Arod is agreat player so relax but he needs to pick it up with RISP.. I like his standup mature after the game..
If Wang would not have gotten worth at $4 mill he is definitely worth it….
“I always thought Manny was a misunderstood slacker, not some randy johnson nutcase who gets violent over nothing”
Ditto. Always thought he was just a hitting savant. Could be frustration over his contract situation as he’s not looking great for the $20M option for ‘09. Either way, this and the Youkilis thing are inexcusable.
Big Question: are the sucks gonna suspend him?
This is wacked out Bobby Knight territory.
mark,
Nah. Francona has already said that they’ve dealt with it inhouse.
Like someone said, big $$ changed hands.
all teams just care about winning like most of us fans. the point is I don’t think most Yankee players would have done what Manny did.. If giambi, or arod, or jeter did whay Manny did I would be very suprised.
Obviously I do not know any of these guys personally but again I do not see this group of Yankees chocking or pushing down the traveling secretary but yes the thing most important to me in the players is the performance….
For the Yankees’s success this season, Jeter better get his tangible offense back up to career norms (along with Cano keeping up his performance).
If the offense staggers again, it’s not cause of the fringe guys; it’s on the vets with the big contracts.
Fredo Corleone-
exactly. Manny is like Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle in that they were such naturals they didn’t any regiment, and therefore, failed to followed inconvenient rule.
In regards to Moeller being on the bench, here is a situation I had been pondering:
With Matsui out, we may see more of Posada DH and Molina catch, probably hitting in the 9th spot. Giambi at 1st puts Betemit on the bench. Late in a tight game, Molina could be pinch-hit for with Betemit, and can then be replaced with Moeller.
I agree with you there Blargh.
I have no problem with Posada at first. Although Molina is his backup he’s a good defensive catcher in his own right.
If the team is a better match up against a certain pitcher or team with Molina behind the plate, Posada at first and Giambi riding the pine, Posada’s enough of a team player to suck up his pride and play first.
Whether he makes a transition a few years from now or just does it occasionally this season while his shoulder is aching, it could possibly prolong how long he can be a productive contributor too.
I’d think the teammates would appreciate that too, not just Girardi.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Murcer family during this difficult time.
Hard to believe that it has been 26+ years since my father took me to see the Yankees play the Orioles at the Stadium and we headed into the bottom of 9 with the Yankees down 4-3. In between innings, I was pretty bummed about a potential Yankees loss. My dad looked at me and said “Don’t worry about it. Bobby Murcer is going to get up and hit a home run to win it for the Yankees!†Sure enough, Bobby hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to win the game 6-4. What a great memory. Keep fighting, Bobby!
Here’s the box score from that game:
http://www.baseball-reference......9260.shtml
IS GARDNER GOING TO START TONIGHT?
Has anyone seen how the sox fan base has reacted to this? I don’t have the stomach to look. I’d be interested to see if the group of people that were outraged when Shelley gave a kid a “Red Sox S*ck” autograph have an equivalent amount of outrage when a star player acts so violently to someone who is just trying to get his job done.
Girardi is going to have some fun with his lineups while Matsui is injured. He’ll be juggling Betemit, Giambi and Posada at first. Gardner and Damon will both have playtime in left. Gardner will probably spell Melky a few times in center. Molina and Posada will both catch. Damon, Betemit, Giambi and Posada will be juggled at the DH spot.
I bet that we won’t see the same lineup twice between now and the all-star break.
Regarding Manny being Manny and the night he knocked down Boston’s George Costanza….
Part of me says, “who cares?” All kinds of crap happens in locker rooms. They travel with each other all the time, get on each others’ nerves and are all very competitive, confident people (read: selfish and spoiled) who don’t always have the best coping skills.
The other part of me says it’s different when it’s the traveling secretary and not a player. But the players own the traveling secretary apparently, always tipping them and gifting them for taking care of special travel arrangements, rooms, etc. Who knows. Maybe Manny’s been really generous with the guy and didn’t want to hear “maybe” when it came time to get some tickets.
But what’s really interesting to me is that it became known outside the locker room. Manny either did this in front of a writer (really dumb) or someone leaked it (Manny doesn’t have too manny friends on that team).
Ansky,
Molina has definitely been a blessing.
If A-Rod did something like this you can guarantee it would be on the news non-stop till the Yankees did something more than “internal” problem solving.
If you were at work and threw someone down to the ground you would be gone. I don’t care if it was the janitor or the President of the company. Yet here it gets a pass? Why?
The incident with Youkilis was bad enough, even though it was enjoyable to see it, this is far worse. So he got bought off. That shouldn’t be the end of it.
I’m sure bellicheck is already providing the roids for everyone at Red Sox camp
I always kinda liked Manny. I didn’t care about the Youk thing, but this is bothersome.
That being said, the guy can rake.
“If A-Rod did something like this you can guarantee it would be on the news non-stop till the Yankees did something more than “internal†problem solving.”
For Manny, it is becoming more like a trend. If someone on the Yanks did it, then it would be most likely be out of character. You don’t see guys pushing each other around (recently lol) like you do in the Boston Circus.
The only thing Coach Belichick will do is teach the Red Sox how to cheat.
I just got the craziest trade idea…
He was a lights out closer last year for the Phills and was very vocal about his disappointment at not being able to carry on in that role with the Lidge signing etc..
What about Brett Myers and we use him as our 8th inning guy?
HIs value can never be lower and the team has lost all faith in him.
Would he cost as much as say…Brian Fuentes/Marte etc..?
I’ve heard that Colorado wants 2 major league ready players and prospect would Myers in his career worst year garner that much?
I guess there’s 2 problems with this scenario though..
1. Myers has looked more like Kei Igawa than that guy who got 40 saves for the Phills in 07 so who’s to say that he wouldn’t be another “Crazy Kyle” type that gives up 2 walks and a bomb before he gets to hand the ball to Mo…
2. I would imagine the Phillies GM to be at least as clever as I think I am with this idea
lol. So I’d assume with the Phils actively shopping for an 8th inning stud (currently linked with the rest of us to Fuentes) I’d be surprised if the Phillies don’t just try the idea themselves and let Myers set up for Lidge…
Just wanted to see what you or the rest of you guys think about such an idea…
After A-rod shouted at the third basemen last year he should have said “Hey, its just A-rod being A-rod.” That way he would get a free pass for everything too!
M. Francessa,
Do you think we need an 8th inning guy more than someone to stabilize the rotation?
I’m not sure we do.
How many games have been lost in the 8th inning since Joba has been moved to the rotation? Answer is: zero.
They need another starting pitcher. They don’t need an 8th inning guy.
This team can’t survive a season of 5 inning starts from half their rotation. They have already shown they can handle the 8th inning.
“Has anyone seen how the sox fan base has reacted to this?”
Looks like people at Sons of Sam Horn and sick of Manny’s crap especially after his slap of the Greek.
Manny is a nice guy. He did that cool high five in the stands during a game and still made the play. How could anyone sit him down? He is a stud and it was only the traveling secretary, so it doesn’t mean anything anyway.
SJ,
I completely agree.
As we’ve seen since 2004, the Yankees are going nowhere with mediocrity in their rotation.
Which is worse this year? Manny or Reyes (not in play, but in on and off field antics)and who deserves more leeway? I would say Manny being that he has earned it, but he also has many more strikes against his character than Reyes does.
What do you guys think?
Who do you see as getting the role in the rotation SJ? Internally it doesn’t look like there is much there that could take on the role. Giese and Rasner don’t seem likely to hold down the two spots. Maybe one slot, but not two.
Prince
LOL
Make no mistake I believe it is absolutely necessary that we do both!!
1. A frontline starter
2. A closer from a loosing team to replace Joba’s 8th.
I’m just trying to find a way to maybe get an 8th inning guy for less cost if possible because I think we’re gonna have to give up quite a haul of premium talent in our potential “rotation upgrade/addition” which I believe is just as if not more important than locking down Joba’s former role in the 8th.
Honestly, I just don’t care about Manny Ramirez and really can’t justify mentioning him more than once a month on a Yankee blog.
He’s always been a fruitcake with a mean stick.
I respect his bat but couldn’t care less about his personality.
Yeah the Yanks definitely need another starter. Ponson was lucky he wasn’t bombed by the Mets, Giese is a AAAA guy and Rasner should be in the bullpen pitching long relief. I can live with some combination of Rasner/Ponson/Giese to fill in one spot in the rotation but not two. Now that Horne and Aceves are down with injuries the inhouse options are getting thin. I think its getting very close to the time that Cashman needs to make a deal.
I wouldn’t give either one a pass Joey. Why should poor behavior like that be acceptable?
“Looks like people at Sons of Sam Horn and sick of Manny’s crap especially after his slap of the Greek.”
Give it 24 hrs. For a Red Sox fan, hating Manny passes like a hang over. It’s simple: in Boston, Manny’s OPS > the honor of the traveling secretary.
M. Francessa,
I definitely buy your argument…I mean, its not like a dependable 8th inning guy wouldn’t help (though as SJ pointed out, we’ve been getting by). I just think the rotation is more of a concern than anything else at this point.
Sadly, we wouldn’t even be worried about any of this if Wang didn’t get hurt because a rotation of Wang, Pettitte, Joba, and Moose and then an inning eater the 5 hole would have been more than enough to make us a legit contender this year.
FYI, Brett Myers had 21 saves in 2007. Not 40.
no 4th and 5th starter = no playoffs
Personally, I let the team we have right now do what they can the rest of the season.
Unless some middle of the road starter can be had on the cheap, what’s the point of trading prospects away for a two month rental like Sabathia?
Remember a few years ago when Torre benched Soriano after he watched a home run?
Does anyone know where I can find video of Jose’s hissy fit? Jose+Reyes+throwing+fit search does nothing.
“what’s the point of trading prospects away for a two month rental like Sabathia?”
idk, maybe winning the world series this year? that would be kind of cool and fun, no?
the only good prospects we have are montero and jackson. tabata and the rest of them are middle tier and should be traded.
TurnTwo,
Are you sure he’d get us there?
Last I remember, he fizzled in the playoffs when the Indians needed him most.
I think they have to go outside the organization for a starter.
They won’t look for an 8th inning guy, IMO. If they go for any help in the ‘pen, it will be for a lefty reliever. If one is available of course.
I think some fans are stressing out more about the 8th inning than the Yankees are.
In terms of priorities, that’s not on the Top 3 List.
Their Top 3 is most likely:
1. A starter.
2. A RH bat off the bench.
3. A lefty for the ‘pen.
Aceves will be back in a week. If he has a couple of good starts in AAA, he may be in the mix.
I am not very confident in Rasner or Giese. Strangely, I have a tad more confidence in Ponson. Only because he has had at least a smidgen of success at the ML level.
Either way, I think they will get a starter at the deadline. Who is the big question.
In the meantime, you hope they can find a way to have the back end guys give them a chance to win in their starts.
“FYI, Brett Myers had 21 saves in 2007. Not 40″
Why would Philly sell low right now anyway??? They’ll give him some time to right himself and help them for this season. No contending team is trading pitching.
“Which is worse this year? Manny or Reyes (not in play, but in on and off field antics)and who deserves more leeway? I would say Manny being that he has earned it, but he also has many more strikes against his character than Reyes does.
What do you guys think?”
C’mon. Punks are punks regardless of the number of HRs or WS rings. Both Manny and Reyes are little punks.
Varitek ought to decide what to do with Manny, not Theo or MLB. They should handle it in-house.
As for Reyes? Showboating and showing up a teammate is supposed to be bred out of you before you get to The Show. But throwing an on-field tantrum like a two year old is signing your death warrant on a serious MLB club – which the Mets may not be. IMO, as soon as Omar is gone, they trade Reyes. He’s a nice piece to being back some prospects for that anemic Met farm system.
Just saw a picture of Jack McCormick, the guy Manny threw to the ground. He isn’t that young. Classy act there Manny.
On the topic of the rotation, do any of you think Joba will be there the rest of the season and into the playoffs if NY gets there?
Something scares me about sending him out there at 22 and throwing 97 mph in September. Sounds like an injury waiting to happen.
“Last I remember, he fizzled in the playoffs when the Indians needed him most.”
I think if he logs another 250+ innings, your question is a reaosnable one. I’m sure the Tribe and CC learned a little something about having something left in the tank come playoff time.
I love CC as a pitcher. I don’t think this team is one player away (hence trading a portion of their better prospects) from winning the World Series.
Its why I wouldn’t get involved in the CC Sweepstakes if it requires giving up one of the untouchable guys.
They can get him in the off-season (if they so choose) by blowing everyone out of the water $$$-wise.
Ps..
For all of you who think the Bronson Aaroyo/Randy Wolfs of the world are going to get it done in October I think you’ll be pretty disappointed.
I’m sorry but a rotation of Pettite Joba and Moose in a 5 game series by my estimation is far inferior to those that we’ll most likely be facing presuming we are actually playing baseball in October.
Before all of you jump on me about Wang returning I’d like remind you that it’s not a foregone conclusion that he returns at all this year.
Before the rest of you jump on me about Hughes and Kennedy and Pavano LOL coming back…again lets try to be realistic do you guys actually feel confident enough that one of those guys will be effective/adequate in a playoff series?
Sure we could manage the regular season with the Aaroyo/Wolf’s but once it comes to the Post Season we’d have Andy (who god bless him) is a warrior…
But at best he’s a number 2 pitcher at this point in his career.
Moose in the playoffs scares the $hit out of me.
His 10 wins notwithstanding I just can’t see him keeping us in a low scoring game against a tough playoff pitcher.
Joba is the wild card I guess.
I could see him coming up huge for us but would Girardi actually have the ballz to start him against say…Beckett in Game one and then start on 3 games rest again ala Beckett?
I’m sorry but we need a top of the rotation guy or we’re going to be one and done for the FOURTH CONSECUTIVE SEASON IMHO…
Plus for all of you who think I’m being too negative and that Wang will be back and Phil will help in his return as well…Consider that’s all true we’d still have ONE more ACE in the mix!!
It’s a WIN WIN NO BRAINER PEOPLE!!!
“do any of you think Joba will be there the rest of the season and into the playoffs if NY gets there?”
Yes. There is probably reason for concern about whether he can hold his velocity when he hits 130-140 innings, but they’ll be pitching him.
“Something scares me about sending him out there at 22 and throwing 97 mph in September. Sounds like an injury waiting to happen.”
Josh Beckett was 23 when he was handcuffing the Yanks in game 6 in 2003.
Ortiz always seemed to run interference for Manny and since he’s been out, Manny seems to be having a hard time playing well with others.
“I think if he logs another 250+ innings, your question is a reaosnable one. I’m sure the Tribe and CC learned a little something about having something left in the tank come playoff time.”
completely agree.
right now, he’s throwing flames of pure filth.
you give me CC, Pettitte, Joba, Moose, and an offense that goes Damon, Jeter, Abreu, Arod, Giambi, Posada, and Cano 1-7, and i’ll give you a team that’s gonna make it one hell of a ride.
Well, if Jack McCormick is NYPD113th, then Manny should be given some kind of humanitarian award.
Fredo,
Perhaps you’re right. Don’t get me wrong, I like Sabathia a lot. But for me, its the same situation as Santana. Between the asking price in dollars(if he even has any interest in NY, which from what I’ve read, he isn’t exactly enamored by), not to mention the prospects.
I love the idea of winning it all this year, but it seems like only that: an idea, not a reality.
“I’m sorry but a rotation of Pettite Joba and Moose in a 5 game series by my estimation is far inferior to those that we’ll most likely be facing presuming we are actually playing baseball in October.”
I’ll take Pettitte and Joba over anyone else’s top 2 in the playoffs.
ROID RAGE AT THE BOSTON ANIMAL FARM
TurnTwo,
If that scenario became a reality and we got Wang back in September, then I will buy into the possibility of this “hell of a ride” you mention.
If Wang isn’t back, not so much. This is a BIG if.
raymagnetic,
I love your enthusiasm.
And I agree, Pettitte is a certified stallion in the playoffs. I’d take him over most pitchers with a game on the line in the playoffs.
CC is going to be available, no doubt about that now. Cleveland is not playing very good baseball right now and its not looking like they have much chance at making the playoffs. How much will the Yankees be willing to give up for him and how much will other teams be willing to give up for him? I could see Philly, the Cubs, St. Louis, Detroit, even the Rays and Sox going after CC. Its going to be tough for Cashman to put forth the best offer without giving up serious talent.
I don’t think Wang has a good chance of being back in September, either. Too often the Yankees say someone will be back by a certain date and it turns out to be far longer than they said. Add to that he is probably going to be rusty and needing to build more strength.
The only argument I saw that I agreed with in going after CC now was it would allow the Yankees to see how he does in NY. That could make all the difference in how they persue him at the end of the season. It takes some pressure off the other starters, as well.
Pavano might make an appearance, but I’ve long ago written him off in the rotation.
Hughes may not even be back this year, and that could be to get him back to what he was doing. Maybe some mechanics need fixing.
Sox fan base is probably reacting predictably to the little clubhouse indiscretion by Manny Ramirez:
“It’s just Manny being Manny so we accept it.”
“It was blown out of proportion … clearly an anti-Sox (or anti-Manny) PR conspiracy.”
“It’s cool, Manny’s a good guy, he apologized and his apology was accepted. Quit trying to twist things around.”
“It wouldn’t be that big a deal if Shawn Chacon hadn’t been such a jerk the week before.” (see previous 2 quotes)
“No, it’s not the same as if it happened in the Yanks locker room. If it happened in the Yanks locker room, then it would be wrong.” (this is the response when told it seems they have different rules of proper conduct for the Sox)
“Oh yeah? Well our team has won more titles than your team this century.” (note this statement goes back exactly 7 1/2 seasons)
“Stop living in the past, live in the present.” (this is the response when it’s pointed out that if they had the courage to go back any more than 8 seasons then our team has more titles than theirs, and that going back precisely 7 seasons is just convenient for their own data beautification)
“It doesn’t matter. Live in the present” (When its pointed out that going back 11 seasons has the Florida Marlins winning as many titles as the Sox)
“Your team is behind too and our team has won more titles than yours this century.” (when pointed out that if the past really doesn’t matter, today their team sits in second place behind Tampa)
“It’s just Manny being Manny … as long as he produces we accept it.” (when Manny’s posing after homers & warning track shots is pointed out)
“No, it’s not the same as if a Yank posed after homers & warning track shots. If a Yank did it, then it would be wrong.” (sound familiar?)
“Joba’s fist pump is annoying. He’s learning how to be arrogant from the overpaid Yankee players. It’s all about the money to them. They’re all overpaid mercenaries.” (on Joba’s fist pump after a strikeout)
“Shut up.” (when mentioning Curt Schilling was also a mercenary)
“It’s just Papelbon being Papelbon. He’s just amped, so we accept it and so should you. When Joba does it, it’s wrong.” (when Papelbon’s fist pump after a strikeout is pointed out)
I could go on and on ……
Manny is a nice guy. Does good charity work.
Boston will surely win the world series if they acquire CC.
Beckett
CC
Dice-K
Lester
vs
Joba
Mussina
Pettitte
Rasner/Ponson/Hughes/Kennedy ………….
Patrick,
Great point.
There will be a flurry of teams who could use Sabathia’s arm down the stretch and it will turn into a horrific bidding war that is worse than the Twins vs. the Mets vs. the Yankees in the Battle for Johan.
Understand though, the situation from Santana changed when Wang went down and Kennedy and Hughes didn’t do the role that was expected of them.
All plans are going to change with circumstances, and it might be enough to push the FO over the edge and do a deal.
Hard to say what clubs will be in on a rental like CC. I think next year’s draft class is looking a bit weak, so there is also that into the mix of things to consider.
Basically, if we get to the playoffs this year, we’d probably have to be afraid of a Danks/Floyd/Buehrle or Contreras rotation, or a Lackey/Saunders/Santana or Garland rotation
Wang is a bonus, but i dont even buy that you need him right now if you make that move.
this team is great, and good enough to win the AL East, they just arent playing like it… maybe if Cashman went out and made a move to show them he was serious about making the run this year, they’ll each step up their game, too.
its all a crapshoot, but this team is good enough to win it all this year. i thought that at the beginning of the year, and if they make a move to bring in a frontline pitcher, they can still do it.
“I could see Philly, the Cubs, St. Louis, Detroit, even the Rays and Sox going after CC. Its going to be tough for Cashman to put forth the best offer without giving up serious talent.”
Philly, Cubs and Detroit won’t have enough in their system, in my opinion. Cards??? Would they part with Rasmus and others? Red Sox??? Bowden, Anderson plus???. Rays??? If they were serious about it, they’ll get him because they can offer the best package.
You betcha TurnTwo! And the CO-MVPs of the world series will be rasner and ponson
I have a question, does anyone remember who the #3 starter was on Arizona the year they won it all?
“this team is great,”
Nah uh!!!
There are no great teams in baseball this year. Yanks are short on starting pitching and play average to below average defense in several positions. Several good teams, which the Yanks are among, but ZERO great teams.
Old Goat,
I know nothing of next year’s draft class. If it is indeed perceived as weak and the Yankees want to pursue Sabathia in the offseason and give up the draft picks, then who knows.
TurnTwo,
There is no doubt CC would help the team. I think that goes without saying. But at what cost?
Fredo,
I think most teams, even if they are depleted in the minor leagues could pull together a package for Sabathia if they really wanted him. There are only a handful of teams that simply don’t have enough talent to get him, perhaps Detroit is in that group but I don’t think Philly or the Cubs are. I haven’t even mentioned the Brewers, White Sox or Dodgers.
Its tough to project who will try and get Sabathia because its still early but there are a lot of teams out there that are contending and could use another pitcher.
Wow I was just looking at the standings and noticed Arizona’s record. What happened to them?? They were so good in the beginning of the year. I guess thats the danger of having such a young team, it makes it harder to break out of a slump.
Its not up to Cashman. What if Cleveland doesn’t like the Yankee prospects?
Also, what if you give up a couple of top prospects for CC, don’t win the WS, he decides NY isn’t for him, and doesn’t sign with the Yankees in the off-season.
Would the trade be worth it?
Its not so easy to say, “If they get CC, they win the World Series”.
We were told for months Johan Santana clinched things for the Mets. How has that worked out so far?
I don’t think Wang will be back this year. Even with that, I’m not giving up A List prospects for a rental player. No way.
The trade market is just forming now. Its not a question of Cashman not doing anything.
You can’t do something when the parts you may need are not yet on the market.
raymagnetic,
Not sure. But every time i look at that roster I am SHOCKED the Yankees blew that series.
Why do people keep talking about Sabathia when all signs clearly show that the Yanks are not in the running for him?
People are clamoring for Yankees general manager Brian Cashman to stop sitting there and do something already — something big — to improve the Yankees’ tattered pitching staff.
Go get C.C. Sabathia, they scream. Pry Erik Bedard out of Seattle. Enough with these journeymen and castoffs and overmatched kids that the Yankees keep trotting out, even on occasions like the Subway Series.
Cashman hears you, all right. And he disagrees.
“It’s almost like doing what we used to do has become people’s binky, their pacifier, their security blanket,” Cashman said with a mix of derision and weariness Saturday.
Cashman has been over this all before. He says, “It happened when we didn’t trade for Eric Gagne at the trading deadline last year. It happened with Santana this winter. It happens with a lot more deals that are discussed that people don’t even know about.”
Saying no to deals the Yankees used to chase, he meant.
http://www.newsday.com/sports/.....447.column
Miguel Batista????? He was superb in Game 5. Outpitched Mussina (when Mussina was still Mussina) before Kim grooved one to Brosius. Brian Anderson pitch for Zona too??
CC would definitely be very costly especially with the Cubs involved and the Red Sox doing everything they can to increase the ante required. Shapiro is going to be asking for a ton of value not marginal prospects.
you cant do something if you don’t bring money to the market! cashman wants to pocket all the money (prospects) and win milb championships! give yourself a pat on the ass, cashman.
This is not a great Yankee team. Not even close. That’s fan talk not rooted in any fact from what we have seen so far this year.
The offense is on pace to score almost 200 fewer runs than last year. Their defense is below average at most positions.
The bench is poor and their pitching is average at best.
Sorry, that’s not a great team.
Fortunately for the Yankees, there aren’t any great teams in the AL this year. They all have flaws.
Forget my question. I just looked up the Diamondbacks squad from ‘01.
If they can win with that lot of pitchers, and beat a Yankees team trying to 4peat no less, the Yankees can win with what they have.
The Yankees will go after CC in the offseason, other than that people get a grip already.
Guiseppe,
Cashman plays this game all the time. He denies until the day he makes a deal. I guarantee you he is looking at every option and will make phone calls to the Indians inquiring about Sabathia. Whether he actually makes a deal or not I have no idea but rest assured he will look into it.
SJ,
That is what I am leaning towards.
Maybe it is the media being the media, but from what I have read, Sabathia isn’t exactly stoked by the idea of playing in NY.
If Old Goat is right about the draft class of 09 being weak, then where does that leave us if CC winds up with the Yankees and walks at teh end of the season? Personally, I have ZERO clue about anyone in the 09 draft.
If we trade for CC and he walks at the end of his current contract – do we get 2 sandwich picks? How does that work?
“There is no doubt CC would help the team. I think that goes without saying. But at what cost?”
of course, you arent going all in. but youve got a deep system. dont be gunshy. not all of these guys are superstars, and if you give Sabathia the taste of what its like to win in NY, and then offer him cash up to his eyeballs in the offseason, he’s not going anywhere.
“There are no great teams in baseball this year. Yanks are short on starting pitching and play average to below average defense in several positions. Several good teams, which the Yanks are among, but ZERO great teams.”
ok, well i guess if we’re going to play the game of literal semantics, then i’ll rephrase myself: this team is just as good as any other playoff team in either league.
“You betcha TurnTwo! And the CO-MVPs of the world series will be rasner and ponson”
such sarcasm just isnt necessary. if you want to actually read my post, i said CC, Pettitte, Moose, and Joba. id go to battle against any playoff team with that rotation right there and take my chances.
“Not sure. But every time i look at that roster I am SHOCKED the Yankees blew that series.”
Blew the Series??? The Yankees should have been toast in 5 games. D’backs out scored them by 20+ runs over that series and generally pitched much better up and down the rotation.
haha cashman! great job “not dooing thins we used to do” – like making the playoffs? It will be a quiet ending to the house that ruth built. Thanks to cashman, the genius with 0 championships by himself.
“Sorry, that’s not a great team.
Fortunately for the Yankees, there aren’t any great teams in the AL this year. They all have flaws.”
exactly. hence the change of my wording.
i didnt think everyone would turn into Literal Larry on me.
What are you talking about? They have the highest payroll in baseball by over 50 million dollars.
A 209 million dollar payroll is not “bringing the money”?
Please, lets not be that foolish. Money isn’t the Yankees problem.
Its not making the dumb deal. So far, Cashman has avoided that and the team is right in the race.
i apologize turntwo
“Cashman plays this game all the time. He denies until the day he makes a deal. I guarantee you he is looking at every option and will make phone calls to the Indians inquiring about Sabathia.”
i’ll give him that… he does have a great poker face.
“Their defense is below average at most positions.”
Not sure I agree with you here..
1B – way below average
2B – well above average
SS – above average
3B – average
LF – above average
CF – well above average
RF – average
C – with Molina above average, with Posada average
I’m going off of RZR for most positions.
“Miguel Batista????? He was superb in Game 5. Outpitched Mussina (when Mussina was still Mussina) before Kim grooved one to Brosius. Brian Anderson pitch for Zona too??”
I was Miguel Batista. He only pitched 140 IP’s for them that year. Albeit they were very good innings but he didn’t pitch much. He actually pitched more games out of the pen then in the rotation.
I said “money (prospects)”
“We were told for months Johan Santana clinched things for the Mets. How has that worked out so far?”
The NL East sucks… a sloth could clinch the NL East at half-effort.
Would anybody else be amused if Shapiro decides ‘HAH! I was just kidding all along, there will be no CC trade. I’ll be taking those draft picks.’ and all this discussion becomes moot?
SS – above average
3B – average
You might want to switch those two around
SJ, I agree its a big risk going after CC, or any other team’s starting pitcher. While it lessens the problem when its a pitcher who is signed for another year, its still a gamble.
I think it really depends heavily on who the Indian’s would want for CC, because I am sure that any team can find players/prospects that would satisfy them.
If CC were to come to NY and not like it, as a result from coming via trade, at least that is better than him signing a longer term contract and finding that out. That is one good point for trading for him now. Though the cost may be too great.
I think it also depends on how well the Yankees are in the standings come the time for trading. If they are close it might be enough to push them to do a deal. Remember, this being the last season of the great Stadium can play a factor as well.
Patrick,
I don’t have stats (which are largely worthless in grading defense), but the idea that Jeter is having a better defensive season than Rodriguez is dubious.
gARDNER BATTING LEADOFF PLAYING LEFTFIELD
Bring in CC, groom Wang to come back mid-September for a few starts and have our playoff rotation:
CC, Wang, Pettitte, Joba, Moose – tell me we don’t stand a damn good chance at winning with that.
George Costanza better watch out cause hes next.
(George played the Assistant to the Traveling Secretary on Seinfeld)
more like this…
1B – average
2B – well above average
SS – average
3B – above average
LF – above average
CF – average
RF – average
C – with Molina above average, with Posada below average
“Bring in CC, groom Wang to come back mid-September for a few starts and have our playoff rotation:
CC, Wang, Pettitte, Joba, Moose – tell me we don’t stand a damn good chance at winning with that.”
Oh and I forgot to mention the best closer in the game and the best offense 1-5/6.
Gardner is batting leadoff and playing leftfield
“gARDNER BATTING LEADOFF PLAYING LEFTFIELD”
YESSSSSSS
Damon at DH with Giambi at 1?
If Gardner’s up and playing left, then Johnny’s really hurt. Unless Johnny is DHing.
Patrick,
I’m sure they’ll kick the tires on Sabathia, but he won’t be a Yankee on August 1.
I guarantee it.
Since Cashman’s takeover of the farm, he has not made a big splash via trade.
Yes, they did land Abreu in 2006, but he was a salary dump and the Yanks essentially gave up nothing in return for him [and Lidle].
The only reason the Yanks would be in he hunt for Sabathia now is to drive up the price for the Red Sox – and vice versa.
No that doesn’t mean Sabathia won’t be a Yankee during the offseason, but there’s virtually zero chance it happens during the season.
You think you’re one player away and you acquire CC. What do you when someone else goes down? Think you’re one player away again?
This team is much more than “one player away,” so quit chasing it.
We’ve been lacking a solid 4 and 5 starter since we thought Jaret Wright and Carl Pavano would be the answer. Again, it’s the sins from earlier in the decade, not what we did or didn’t do this year, that put us where we today.
That’s why you don’t blow up the farm system for CC Sabathia. Having a solid farm system, whether Phil Hughes winds up a 20 game winner or Steve Avery, is the right thing to do.
If Gardner starts tonight, do gas prices automatically go down by two bucks? I heard he could do that.
What all this has to do with Manny Ramirez, though? beyond me!
They say things comes in threes. Who does Man-Ram attack next? I say Johnny Pesky.
“Patrick,
I don’t have stats (which are largely worthless in grading defense), but the idea that Jeter is having a better defensive season than Rodriguez is dubious.”
He took his information straight from RZR. He didn’t just take the numbers out of a hat.
“I’m sure they’ll kick the tires on Sabathia, but he won’t be a Yankee on August 1.
I guarantee it.”
oh, i can guarantee it too… i just wish theyd do it.
Justin CHristian Sent Down for Gadner
Glad to see Gardner in the lineup but this begs the question “What’s it going to take to get Melky a day off or three????”.
Or is Damon’s foot bothering him?
ThecanoCannon
where are you getting this info?
Go look at the revized zone ratings on hardballtimes.com if you don’t believe me about the fielding on this team. Jeter is performing better than most SS’s in the league while A-rod is in the middle of the pack compared to 3B’s in the league. Melky has excellent range and a gun so how is he not above average in the field? Brandon how can you say Giambi is average in the field? He’s AWFUL.
I’m sure CB has better statistics to show the fielding of each player but I think RZR gives a fair look.
I dunno about gas, but Gardner will help fight against world hunger.
As he blazes around the bases, the wind generated will cause a butterfly effect to conveniently alter precipitation around the world to raise the overall production of food over time.
Yes, similar to, if not the same as, the butterfly effect from A-Rod’s homerun swing!
i hate manny, disgrace to baseball. jerk
ThecanoCannon
where are you getting this info?
Wfan Just announced it they said Gardner is Batting leadoff and playing left and that Christian was sent down for him
I think folks need to forget about Wang coming back. If he does, think of it as a bonus.
That’s a very serious injury. I hope he is ok for next year.
Very tough injury to rehab without the surgery. Ask Bruney and he is a relief pitcher. Much less stress than a starter.
cool, thanks – I was hoping there might be a line up posted somewhere…
The odds for seeing Wang start another game this year are slim to none. Bruney got hurt early enough that he was able to rehab and he is a reliever. Who knows maybe Wang can be used for an inning or two if he shows some improvment late.
Gardner is being showcased for a trade.
“Glad to see Gardner in the lineup but this begs the question “What’s it going to take to get Melky a day off or three????â€.”
Melky’s defense has been so good that it nearly negates how bad his offense has been.
If/when he ever starts hitting again he will be more than respectable as a CF on the Yanks.
out of curiousity, can anyone else play 1b besides posada and betemit. Posada’s future could very well be at first base, but probably not until ‘10 ish. Giambi’s likely absence next year will leave a major hole. And being that i would rather get CC the teixera, it would be nice if we could fill someone else in and pick up a free agent at another position
Ray:
No way. He’s a good centerfielder, but there are 7-10 who play the position just as well and demonstrate some form of offense. If he were making plays no other CF could make, that’s one thing, but he isn’t. He’s wrapping up his 2nd consecutive month of a sub .600 OPS. Just no way his play in center offsets that.
I think any trade possibilities will center on a couple of things. How much are they asking for being the top consideration. I think it also will depend on the owners staying out of it, or giving it the nod.
CC would make a positive impact, but they aren’t going to empty the farm for him.
I agree it doesn’t seem likely at this point that they will go after CC. I wouldn’t rule them out either, though. I certainly wouldn’t guarantee it either way.
SJ I agree that Wang is probably not coming back this season. Just the healing alone will take significant time, then there is the rehab.

“In reading the earlier post by Pete regarding the medical condition of Bobby Murcer as he fights and struggles against brain cancer, it only amplifies the contrast between men of character and dignity like Bobby and pieces of garbage like Manny who because he can hit a baseball is paid millions of dollars but when it comes to being a person of character couldn’t hold Bobby’s jock.”
Quoted for Truth!!!
In other news, watch out George Costanza, you might be next!!!!
“Ray:

Fredo,
The guys at Replacement Level Blog had a writeup on all the CF’s in the AL. Melky saved the 3rd most runs behind Gomez and Jones.
If he starts hitting at all he will probably be a net positive for the year.
yea wang is done i think. cash should wait it out and get CC next year. i can’t imagine a reasonable price offered, even for a rental
I think Pesky’s next.
http://ballhype.com/video/mann.....e_red_sox/
i just like watching it over and over…
Manny Ramirez is greasing the skids for his 2009-2010 options not being picked by John Henry who couln’t care less to begin with.
Had Henry owned the team when the original deal was present, he would have nixed it.
Look for Manny to be a Met next year.
“Sully and Sully Jrâ€. Very original, you gigantic dork.”
Your name is probably Sully as well.
Regarding Manny: As Milton Bradley said (about Ponson), “That guy has problems.”
Don — totally concur…i hope manny gets his but kicked and his dreds pulled out…
As in past years, the Manny being Manny gig hasn’t even started yet.
Three days before the All Star break Manny has an injury, then visits his mother in Fort Lauderdale, then waits until August when he see the Socks dropping in the standings, then figures it’s time to get back in the lineup.
It’s as predictable as Christmas.
Shame Spencer,
Thank you for posting that link.
That is hilarious. Not only did Manny slap Youk, he BACKHANDED him like his BI**H.
where’s the darn line-up
For what it is worth, and I’m too far down for it to matter in the listing at this point, Youkilis isn’t Greek. When the WBC began to get it together he thought it was funny that the team from Greece tried to recruit him thinking like the rest of us, that he was Greek. He’s Baltic/Eastern European by ethnic heritage, it just sounds Greek to the rest of us. LOL!!!
it’s about time someone mentions the runs Melky saves us on defense…
let’s see what Gardner does in the leadoff spot tonight. i know my commute home was a lot faster, thanks to Brett Gardner.
in all seriousness, he wears the pinstripes, and i will root as hard as i can for him.
the only thing that surprises me about the manny story is that the sox fo didn’t do everything humanly possible to try to cover it up. im SHOCKED espn reported it.
pete- any news on that threat the sox received? i heard suzy mention something about it during the pre-game.
Clearly Manny learned how to treat his elders from Pedro. Why is he allowed to get away with this and Chacon is released?
Is this such a big suprise ,, Enough of Manny being Manny , He has always been a piece of s–t
