Have $10,000? You can play at the Stadium

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Jul 01, 2008 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

The Yankees are running a one day fantasy camp. For $10,000 each, 30 campers will get to suit up and play at Yankee Stadium for one day.

The campers will face the likes of Goose Gossage, Bucky Dent, John Flaherty, Pat Kelly, Tim Raines, Jeff Nelson, Graeme Lloyd, Ron Guidry, Jesse Barfield, Mickey Rivers, Ron Blomberg, Johnny Blanchard and Homer Bush.

Homer Bush? I guess Ice Williams and Clay Bellinger were busy. You have until July 14 to rob a bank and sign up. You have to be at least 30.

What an all star team. John Flaherty was a Yankee what, a half of a season?

Why the Homer Bush Hate. Everyone loved Homer for the name alone and the fact that unlike most of the 24th and 25th men on the Yankees benches he was actually useful. It was such a shame he was starting to really elevate his stature after being part of the Wells Clemens deal he played like an All Star until he injured his hip. Talk about a guy you could root for and ya know what Pete, Clay Bellinger should be their too. That guy didn’t belong in the big leagues yet somehow how hung on with the Yankees for 3 years and 2 championships. That was Awesome there should be a move about that guy. Back in the 90′s the Knick fans used to scream for the 12th guy on the bench to get in the game in the blow outs we really should have done that with Clay. Since Graeme Lloyd is in town can we give him a try in the bullpen please. Or at least get him to windmill a punch into Armando Benitez face if Id pay 10 grand for that.

paging rich white boys! paging rich white boys!

and you know what, honestly, guys like Pat Kelly and Homer Bush are the guys I would love to sit down with. The stars get so much of the spotlight, we all know so much about them. What about guys like Pat Kelly and Homer Bush. Who knows what happens if Pat Kelly doesn’t hit that 2 run home run in the 9th at Toronto in 1995 to send the Yankees into the playoffs what would have happened that season or the years after? As for Homer Bush, I second the comment above, Homer was the man and a real fan favorite that year.

Why the heck would anybody spend 10 G’s on this???

  7. Matt (In Toronto) July 1st, 2008 at 4:13 am

Is it true that they used to also give you a tape of Bob Sheppard announcing your name as well?

  8. Raven July 1st, 2008 at 4:22 am

    $10,000?
Will they get A-Rod to drop in and say hello?

  9. MJR July 1st, 2008 at 7:18 am

This is probably the only way Pavano will ever get a chance to pitch in Yankee Stadium again.

    MJR—- Great Line! LMFAO

It is a little stunning that for $ 10,000 that’s the best collection of Yankees you meet. What about Reggie? He’s on the freakin’ payroll! Mattingly? Nettles? Chamblis

and if you can strike out Pat Kelly, YOU could be our #5 starter for a night…

  12. Jersey Jim July 1st, 2008 at 8:01 am

For an extra 5 bucks you get a chance to shake Dustin Pedroia’s hand if you can stoop down that far.

this does make me reminisce as to the days Pat Kelly WAS our starting second baseman.

could you imagine if there were blogs back THEN?

  14. Drew July 1st, 2008 at 9:59 am

10 grand? Pete can you get the paper to sponsor me? Crazy

  15. John July 1st, 2008 at 10:01 am

I have to say, I don’t think 10 k is that unreasonable, considering this is the last year for the stadium.

  16. Drew July 1st, 2008 at 10:01 am

That 300 grand defraying the cost of some new luxury suites?

  17. Gary July 1st, 2008 at 10:12 am

you have to be at least 30???
why they dont want to get embarrassed by some young guns???
haha, i have the money and would love to get on that mound and throw it by those old guys but im only 21..

  18. saucY July 1st, 2008 at 11:31 am

John and Gary, lend me the $$ and i’ll give you a full report of how things went.

  19. Stacey July 1st, 2008 at 12:22 pm

    Pat Kelly!?!?! I LOVED him!

    Damn it I wish I had 10K

  20. Eric Haskell July 1st, 2008 at 1:01 pm

“John Flaherty was a Yankee what, a half of a season?”

John Flaherty was a Yankee for three full seasons, 2003-2005.

  21. Axel July 1st, 2008 at 1:32 pm

Throw in Mel Hall and Kevin Maas and they would have my 10K.

  22. Jimmy C July 1st, 2008 at 1:43 pm

I was on the fence about emptying my bank account for this, but after reading that Homer Bush, sign me up!

  23. Rob July 1st, 2008 at 1:59 pm

I hope nobody punches Mickey Mantle in the face.

  24. Jimmy C July 1st, 2008 at 2:03 pm

Will Steve Sax or Jesse Barfield be there? How about Jack Clark or Steve Balboni?

  25. LadyBug626 July 1st, 2008 at 6:08 pm

Wow… this is really pathetic. How low will the Yankees front office go? First the Mohegan Sun suite, then the Hard Rock at Y.S. and now this. Sad!

  26. Chris (save Jose Tabata!) July 1st, 2008 at 11:14 pm

Rob, lol that was the first thing I thought of when I read this. That was a great show…

  27. Don Capone July 2nd, 2008 at 11:38 am

10K doesn’t buy you much. Besides no Reggie, Nettles, etc, you have to bring your own gear:

“Campers must provide their own baseball glove, belt, and cleats. NO METAL OR PLASTIC CLEATS OR ALUMINUM BATS ALLOWED!”
