Too bad Cash/Damon weren’t more involved in the 2001 draft. There were bats but we just didn’t get them. John-Ford Griffin and Bronson as a sandwich pick (four ahead of David Wright-my buddy brings that pick up every Subway Series). Shelley in the second.

I just don’t understand how it is people can buy into this “all-star at every position” nonsense. are our memories that short? do we not remember that we won four championship with guys like Scott Brosius, Chad Curtis, and and Charlie Hayes in high positions?

sports, like everything else, probably do go in cycles, and the overbloated last few years probably do mean we’ll stick to this more sensible approach.

this does mean no kneww-jerk signings/trades for the pitching staff. we’ve been there, done that, and lost miserably. if Ben Sheets is THAT big an injury risk (and i’m not saying he is or isn’t), he’s not worth four years of your money. doesn’t matter what he’s doing right now.

(again, that is not me saying we shouldn’t sign Ben Sheets. i’m using that name as an example.)

the more you think about it, the more SJ is right. you need to look at what you have, and you need to look at it NOW. we decided that IPK and Phil were ready to pitch every five days at the MLB level from too small a sample. we need a bigger sample size this time around.

just like in politics, there’s a lot of hot air out there. don’t think with their brains. look with your own set of eyes, and you’ll always see more clearly.

2008 Springsteen is INFINITELY better than 2008 Bon Jovi.

Buck Martinez is on the FAN. He talked about Leyland and Guillen and how their MOTIVATION is what made the difference in their teams producing. Also how neither of them let their teams rest on their laurels.

I’m sure there are too, however by the time you get past the “close to sure thing” hitter (of late, guys like Longoria, Upton, etc) it becomes more of a crapshoot. You’re more likely to grab great athleticism in the hope it can translate to baseball (something they appear to have been successful at with Austin Jackson.).
