Why do the Yankees need to have an all star at every position? Plenty of other teams have a solid defensive player who doesn't hit much in their lineup to anchor their defense. Often once the league sees someone can get runners like he did last year the number goes down sinse they don't run as freely. We have a reasonable alternative to consider at CF. We don't have one for 2B or the 4th and 5th starters. Marginal improvement is improvement nonetheless. Gardner deserves a shot at consistent ABs for the next few weeks. Let's be honest - it is difficult to do worse than Melky has been recently. I always bugs me when people trot out the “we have bigger problems” argument.
