Little Stein: “It’s getting ridiculous”

Peter Abraham

Hank Steinbrenner is mad. This from the AP in Tampa:

“We’ve got to start hitting. It’s getting ridiculous. They’ve got to start waking up. They’ve shown in flashes what they can still do,” he said.

“Even when I was worried about the pitching earlier — starting pitching is the most important thing of all — but Brian would keep telling me, ‘Yes, but I worried about the hitting.’ That was Brian’s biggest concern even as we were reconstructing the pitching. We all know they’re better than that. I don’t know. Maybe a little less outside distractions and a little more concentrating and they’ll start hitting better. I thought they would go on a consistent tear, and it hasn’t happened yet.

“Not just this one series, but maybe the next couple series is going to be pivotal. We can definitely still make a run at it.”

Outside distractions? What would those be?

Well seeing as we are living in a material world……NYC is the material capital.

Can’t say that I disagree with him.

But is that a shot at Alex? Or at all the commercials they seem to be doing?

  3. Tint

Little Stein is more of a fan than an owner. Hey, at least he’s entertaining.

  4. keith

I hope it’s nothing to do with Arod. He’s by far the best player on the team.

  5. Stephen

At what point does Hank himself become an “outside distraction”?

  6. Yankee Dudel

    Hey Pete!

How could you miss out on the “Papa don’t preach” line?

    FWIW:

Sources reveal exclusively to PerezHilton.com that Rodriguez’s wife, Cynthia, has left him.

And, what more, she already has another man!

“Cynthia has been seeing Lenny Kravitz,” an insider reveals exclusively to us.

In fact, a source tells us that Cynthia has left her kids in Miami to go on a romantic getaway with Lenny in Paris, where the two are currently holed up.

Well they do seem to make a lot of mental errors.

  9. NYY

It’s all ARod’s fault. I don’t know why or what but it is all ARod’s fault.

    Give ‘em Hell Hank!

Maybe they’ll get mad or embarassed… whatever worx!

outside distractions??? WOw – that is a disrespectful hit at arod – i mean come on – it’s fun to read the NYPost headlines and laugh at the arod/madonna stories – let’s face it, you can’t beleive most of that trash anyway –
But for hank to say something like that, is kind of disrespectful being AROD isn’t the one reporting the news and most likely false or/and exagurated news at that.

I take that as a jab at all the partying that Cano and Melky have been doing….time to trade for Tex and CC….DO IT NOW !!!

  13. UKYankee

Maybe it’s aimed at the untouchable one….the day after being announced as the new Gillette Guy….he’s not in the lineup….just a thought

  14. Kermit

Lotta barking coming from Hank’s direction but no bite thus far.

  15. RockinDaBronx

he should concentrate more on publishing hustler.

  16. Jorge Steinbrenner

I don’t trust anything Perez says. He never writes about folks he’s chummy-chummy with, and probably has a ton against A-Rod since A-Rod was a Miami star and he was a Miami chump.

…and I’m talking about Perez Hilton on a Yankee blog. Shoot me now.

I’m drawing a blank on good Madonna puns right now.

    BTW, I love Hank.

    THANK YOU GOD!

I was always a big fan of George Steinbrenner when he would call the team out.

I hope Hank stays with it.

The offense is a disgrace. Period.

  18. Elizabeth--Want to DFA Damon now?

    These outside distractions?

Perez Hilton is the first sign of the coming Apocalypse!

  20. YankeeDiva

How can that comment be a dig at Arod when up until yesterday he was flying so under the radar you almost forgot he was on the team.

  21. MC

Hank is great with his comments, BUT I fear he will do something crazy and destroy the team like his dad did in the 80’s and early 90’s.

  22. Lara

If only it was just outside distractions…

  23. Jensen

    I guess A-Rod couldn’t buy his wife’s forgiveness with a $4 million diamond ring.

    Great Post!

    Hey, Hankie:

    You are a putz.
    An egomaniacal putz.

You make statements like the one you’ve just made because you are an egomaniacal putz.
Such statements do not help anyone. All such statements do is allow for you to say “Well, i’ve done everything I can’t if things don’t improve, or take credit credit if they do. If you don’t think your employees are trying their best, fire them.

Chip off the old block. The old man has been a little toothless lately, but it wasn’t long ago…and for most of his tenure as owner…George felt compelled to publically “tweak” the team and players. Maybe he’s giving junior instructions ala Brando/Pacino in Godfather I.
