"This team needs offense? No we dont, the offense just needs to wake up"

But the offense continues to get older. Damon is having a good year, but are you going to bet on him doing it next year, or staying healthy? Matsui is consistent, but he has the knees of a 50-year old. Giambi will likely be gone, and if he's not, do you think he's going to stay healthy?

Abreu is a declining player, who should not be resigned. The reasons I've heard to resign him to 2 or 3 year deal because there is "no one better" on the FA market is absurd. That's a spot where the front office has to get creative.

Jeter will be another year older and his performance could decline even more. Same with Posada.

So you're left with A-Rod, who should still be brilliant, and Cano, who you hope rounds back into form. Melky should not be counted on as anything more than a No.9 hitter,a role he could lose to Gardner.

The idea that this offense will "wake up" in 2009 when the bulk of the players will be well past their primes is a little too optimistic.

Tex gives you a power bat in the middle of the lineup. Then you get creative with the outfield and make a trade (Holliday?)

This team needs offense? No we dont, the offense just needs to wake up. There is a difference. When the offense is on, there is a reason they call it Murderers Row and Cano (and Melky)... But when you think about it, if we honestly dont care about the money spending, we could have both Tex and Sabathia after this season. Chances are? 0.5% But we should at least try for them both. We dont really have a great 1Bman coming up, unless Montero is the eventual 1B taker, but as of now hes still the Catcher in 2013 for us. We lose Mussina and possibly (doubt it) Pettitte so thats 2 spots open. Sabathia is the higher need

I'd rather sign Tex than C.C. I like the way Trooper Giambi has hit this year, but he can't be playing first anymore.
And no, Posada should not be an option there either.
Tex is an RBI machine and a great defender. You sign him, first base is set for the next 6 years.

This team needs offense.

What the rotation needs next year is Hughes to come in and pitch like a No.2 or No.3 starter. That's asking a lot of a 22-year old, but if he fails, then this team is going to be hurting, with C.C or withouthim.

Did Gammons ever actually interview Gardner? Does the video exist?
Coverup?"

Yes, someone said it was on ESPN News. But its only the sound because Gammons eyes were swollen shut from the tears.

The last part obviously a joke, but I heard it was on ESPN News

And hahaha Yeah, ESPN did lose alot of money on this game.

Some. So…obviously, you know that others want Sabathia. So why bother to ask?
Perhaps it’s because you haven’t been on here that much…but the Sabathia thing has been debated ad nauseum by posters on the board here. Besides, it all depends on what the parameters of the contract are. Some idiots say “do whatever it takes,” but most are more rational than that."

I think a contract structured around

5 years - 20 M per - 100M
1 option year - 25M - 125 M
Incentives for losing weight?

I know thats a laughable contract, especially the losing weight part, but I believe with all the money coming off the books, he is young enough, and a damn good pitcher. And the weight part. Well hes really got to lose weight, and theres no better way then to put a twinkie in front of a fat kid running. Give him a reason to lose the weight
