" I don’t care if the guy pitches 9 innings EVERY single start, if he gives up 5 runs in every single start, he’s going to cause more harm than help to the team."

v-
au contraire. how do you explain the twins 13 7 record when he pitches.

it's a synergy thing.

and again , i could care less about livan hernandez. my real point is cashman doesn't realize the value of innings and made up a bad plan for the rotation. you're making the same mistake by undervaluing innings.

the fact the twins are thriving with hernandez should tell you there's something going on that you're not seeing.

I brought up the LaPorta situation late last night - it's an interesting play by the Brewers, and I'd think they're at least going to make a good-faith effort to keep Sabathia.

But they have a lot of young hitting talent, so LaPorta *is* expendable, and while I think he would probably be best leveraged for a long-term pitching solution, C.C. Sabathia is still quite a catch, even if only a rental.

And you know what? Even if the Brewers only resign one of Sabathia or Sheets (likely Sheets), they have one of the best under-25 pitching talents in Gallardo coming back.

It's a gutsy move, but I think it's one the Brewers can afford to make. They certainly have the talent to win big this year, and they're not mortgaging a significant part of their future to do it. The biggest worry is the opportunity cost for giving up LaPorta, really, but in an age where few GMs are willing to give up young, cost-controlled pitching, I guess the Brewers don't think that's really a factor.

Could AJ Burnett be the next Pavano? ERA around 4.75
Ideally we need a lefty starter. Other than lefties Sabathia, and Oliver Perez there is little in the FA market. Do you try and trade for Sanchez of the Giants, Scott Olsen of the Marlins,Erik Bedard of the Mariners, one of the Pirate lefties-Duke,Gorzelanny Maholm? Not getting Cole Hamels or Kazmir!! You could get Zito and have at least half his due salary thrown in plus his perks!!!!

Maybe Santana will be available!!!!

Again I really don't think if Sabathia becomes a FA that with what years and money he would want, that the Yankees would do it[ it'll be a 6 year contract that turns them off]

Yankee Trader, it doesn't look promising, does it? I'll tell ya, though, think back to 2005. Right after the break, you hear that Wang probably needs rotator cuff surgery. They pitch the second half with Al Leiter, Shawn Chacon and Aaron Small in the rotation. They picked Leiter and Chacon up because they needed somebody, anybody. They made the playoffs. Of course, the offense was clicking on all cylinders at that point as well.

I can see it now. CC comes up to the plate to bat for the Brewers and the crowd mistakenly starts chanting 'FIELDER clap clap FIELDER clap clap!'

I would pursue AJ Burnett if he opts out and is a free agent.

If he's available via trade this year, I can guarantee you we don't have the horses to get him just like we don't have the horses to get CC if the Brewers offer is legit.

Scratch that -- it's not that we don't have the horses. It's that our GM won't trade the equal talent it would take to get these guys. His forte is uneven trades balanced by money.

My feeling is if the Brewers are ready to deal LaPorta and others for CC they are not only going for it, they are also admitting that they feel Prince Fielder is in their future plans.

LaPorta is still in AA. He hasn't raked AAA pitching yet. I know everyone projects him to be a stud in the majors and he very well might, but for every LaPorta, I can give you an Andy Marte who was supposed to be the next Mike Schmidt for awhile there and hasn't lived up to his projection.

You risk the minor leaguers for CC because getting into the playoffs isn't a given in Milwaukee. It would be a huge event for them and this league is wide open this year. Anyone can win the series. Put CC and Sheets as your 1-2 and you have a helluva chance to do something big.

If it's a smokescreen by the Indians to get the other clubs to give up top talent for CC, it's a good one.

But I think that the Brewers are definitely looking to make the post season happen this year and they know CC in their rotation is a huge boost.

You can trade LaPorta because your minor league system is stocked and you have Prince at 1b.

Larry-Good points
Hitman-Agree with you on Posada

Yankees record 44-42
Games remaining 76
To win 90 games they need to go 46-30.
Not all the remaining teams they play are included. I didn't include Baltimore, which I probably should have.

We have 58 games remaining against:
Boston-10
TB-11
Toronto-9 included them because of their pitching-3rd ranking
Oakland-3
Minn-6
Angels-10
Texas-4
Detroit-1
White Sox-4

If we play .500 ball against those teams, we'd have to sweep the other 18 games against the "lesser" teams.

Is this team, currently constructed, capable of doing that?
Even if we were buyers, and not one of the other contenders tried to improve themselves, would we still make the playoffs?

When I said build around, I didn't mean solely around Cano . This team has AROD and Jeter locked up. Cano has a good deal and plays a great second base. He is not a hole to fix. You keep him and build around him and Jeter, AROD,and maybe Gardener with Posada playing some role. You go from there. I didn't mean to say blow up the team sans Cano by any means.
