Another “Support The ‘Stache” update

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Jul 08, 2008 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Jason Giambi had no idea until today that the American Mustache Institute had endorsed him for the All-Star Game.

“Just think, The Big G a fashion icon,” he said.

Meanwhile Giambi said that if he makes the team and is in the Home Run Derby, he could ask former Mets manager Willie Randolph to pitch to him. Willie threw to Giambi in the 2002 Home Run Derby when he won it.

“The Big G likes to stir it up,” he said. “Why not?”

For the sake of colorful quotes for two days, we implore you to vote for Giambi. Click the widget over to the right.

Oh man, didn’t know the Big G was so witty.

  2. bj July 8th, 2008 at 11:19 pm

Is there no voting limit on the Final Vote? I keep waiting for it to tell me I’ve reached my limit and it doesn’t.

  3. David Robertson for Setup - Vote for the 'Stache' July 8th, 2008 at 11:20 pm

My God I would love Willie to pitch to Bino

  4. Scorpio July 8th, 2008 at 11:20 pm

no limit…keep going. the authenticating # is annoying.

  5. Tint July 8th, 2008 at 11:21 pm

After Willie is done throwing to Giambi can we bring him in as the 3rd base coach again? Pretty please???

  6. JoeT 28 in 09!! LESS POSTING, MORE VOTING!! - .215 average, 16% CS = AL ALL STAR!! July 8th, 2008 at 11:21 pm

BJ – no limit, keep voting!!

The Big G is the man!! People if for nothing else, help Pete stay funny by supplying him with ‘stache quotes!! VOTE FOR BIG G!!

And where are the updates coming from with Longoria being in the lead??

  7. David Robertson for Setup - Vote for the 'Stache' July 8th, 2008 at 11:22 pm

I want Willie sitting on the bench next to Girardi

  8. saucy July 8th, 2008 at 11:23 pm

I stopped getting the ‘thank you’ responses I would get after voting via text message.

Why do that to Willie ? That’s like a demotion to him and I wouldn’t do that to Girardi either, Willie went through the is this guy gunning for my job phase in his last job why put Girardi through that ?

  11. S.A.- Just win games and can the offense stop being so offensive? July 8th, 2008 at 11:28 pm

    LOL
The Big G sure is quite a character.
    I’ll go vote some more..

  12. Scorpio July 8th, 2008 at 11:29 pm

On another subject, heard Andy speak highly of “Josey Molina” tonight. Doesn’t it seem that Jose has much better results with all the pitchers this year than Jorge? And they all seem to love Jose game calling.

Good thing Jorge has a better bat or he could be out of a job.

  13. Bob July 8th, 2008 at 11:29 pm

From the MLB All Star game website:
In the American League, the three leaders, Longoria, Jermaine Dye of the White Sox and Jason Giambi of the Yankees, all have more than two million votes each and are separated by just over 10 percent. They are followed by Brian Roberts of the Orioles and Jose Guillen of the Royals.

  14. PJH July 8th, 2008 at 11:31 pm

Anyone with unlimited texting plan text A2 to 36197 about 8000 times

bob – Giambi in 3rd? we have to step our game up people!!!!!!!!!!

  16. saucy July 8th, 2008 at 11:35 pm

PJH, are you still getting responses from your text message votes?

  17. TKinDC July 8th, 2008 at 11:38 pm

When people ‘go 3rd person’ it usually makes my skin crawl – how many boxers do it ad nauseum? -

HOWEVER! Big G actually makes it work.

TKinDC likes Big G. (nah, it doesn’t really work when I do it! :) )

  18. Nick in SF July 8th, 2008 at 11:38 pm

It’s also annoying to have to uncheck the “send me spam emails” boxes. You have to be right every time; they only have to be right once.

  19. gayle July 8th, 2008 at 11:41 pm

Tomorrow should be interesting between Ponson pitching and Jorge behind the plate unless of course Molina catches tomorrow and they have Jorge catch Moose on Thursday (which I doubt) it could spell lots of trouble

  20. C July 8th, 2008 at 11:41 pm

Wow, I must have voted at least 300 times today…

  21. JoeT 28 in 09!! LESS POSTING, MORE VOTING!! - .215 average, 16% CS = AL ALL STAR!! July 8th, 2008 at 11:41 pm

nick – if you’re wrong once then the terrorists win

  22. Nick in SF July 8th, 2008 at 11:43 pm

Now I know how Jack Bauer feels.

Damnit, Chloe, send the schematics to my PDA!!!!

  23. JoeT 28 in 09!! LESS POSTING, MORE VOTING!! - .215 average, 16% CS = AL ALL STAR!! July 8th, 2008 at 11:43 pm

i have honestly voted a thousand times.. yeah i have no life, but think of me when the stache wins the derby

  24. C July 8th, 2008 at 11:43 pm

Nick, just use a fake email address. That way you don’t have to worry about unchecking the spam email boxes.

  25. PJH July 8th, 2008 at 11:43 pm

I dont have unlimited texting, my brother does, he voted like 40 times and got it each time. How many votes you put in?

  26. David Robertson for Setup - Vote for the 'Stache' July 8th, 2008 at 11:43 pm

See this is why I think its rigged. Are there really Tampa fans going on and voting for Longoria 300 times a day? Hell, they only learned they were Rays fans a month or 2 ago

  27. DFox July 8th, 2008 at 11:45 pm

Come on people! Keep voting. I’ve been voting all night, we have to get the big G to the game. It’ll be awesome to see him in the HR derby. I got to go vote some more.

  28. PJH July 8th, 2008 at 11:45 pm

Oh gosh, didnt uncheck the box for email.

  29. mel July 8th, 2008 at 11:47 pm

If you guys are serious about getting ‘Stache to the game, you’re going to have to vote like crazy.

Remember when Posednik beat out Jeter?

You also have Red Sox nation trying to keep out the ‘Stache.

  30. TKinDC July 8th, 2008 at 11:47 pm

Just that picture of Kim Jones in the ‘Stache is worth 100,000 votes!

    :)

  31. mel July 8th, 2008 at 11:48 pm

    PJH,

Just unsubscribe when the e-mails come.

  32. j July 8th, 2008 at 11:48 pm

i must have voted 600 times scince it started and giambi is in third? wth?

  33. PJH July 8th, 2008 at 11:48 pm

Does it say how far behind he is?

  34. DFox July 8th, 2008 at 11:49 pm

I think the YES and Yankee Stadium promotion tomorrow should give him the push he needs. It’ll probably be all over sports center as long as the people who get the fake staches actually wear them.

  35. Bob(The Original) July 8th, 2008 at 11:50 pm

Won’t they have to name a replacement for Ortiz in addition to the fan vote winner anyway?

The Big G should be there.

  36. Nick in SF July 8th, 2008 at 11:51 pm

Good call, C. I just became a more efficient voter.

  37. S.A.- Just win games and can the offense stop being so offensive? July 8th, 2008 at 11:52 pm

The sportscenter fools wearing fake mustaches..
This is getting outta control.. :P

  38. mel July 8th, 2008 at 11:53 pm

    Bob,

    Milton Bradley’s replacing Ortiz.

What’s the rule on the DH? One guy doesn’t do it for the whole game right? Are they allowed to pinch hit for the DH without losing the DH?

  39. j July 8th, 2008 at 11:55 pm

they can pinch hit. the only way they lose it is if they make the player who is dhi ng move to the field

  40. JoeT 28 in 09!! LESS POSTING, MORE VOTING!! - .215 average, 16% CS = AL ALL STAR!! July 8th, 2008 at 11:55 pm

u can hit for the DH all you want, just cant put him in the field

  41. Bob(The Original) July 8th, 2008 at 11:56 pm

    Maybe MLB is rigging this.

They don’t want a BALCO guy in the homerun derby?

  42. Sean Serritella July 8th, 2008 at 11:57 pm

I don’t know how you could keep voting for some one when you have to keep putting in all the information so I don’t think Red Sox fans would keep voting. Also, on a side note, Pete, I finally got banned from that, “site.” They could dish it but they couldn’t take it. I basically called them phonies because they try to be the thing you call your behind when it’s just an act.

  43. saucy July 8th, 2008 at 11:57 pm

Lost count, but stopped getting them eventually…

  44. Nick in SF July 8th, 2008 at 11:58 pm

Complete game shutout for Justin Ducschererererer.

    That’s an All-Star.

  45. Nick in SF July 8th, 2008 at 11:58 pm

saucy, they’re still counting your votes, they’re just not thankful anymore.

  46. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708 July 9th, 2008 at 12:01 am

    sean: What site?

  47. Angel {insert random statement plus multiple !!!!!'s here} July 9th, 2008 at 12:01 am

I’d been using my “junk mail” yahoo address, and unchecking that stupid thing each time (bloody annoying) until I realized you could just use a fake address and leave it checked.

I have voted lots and lots of times. The validation thing is annoying, does anyone else find it hard to read the numbers sometimes and have your vote rejected because you enter it wrong? Ugh.

  48. Angel {insert random statement plus multiple !!!!!'s here} July 9th, 2008 at 12:03 am

Probably the site that sounds like Nome Ass, Rebecca.

  49. TKinDC July 9th, 2008 at 12:03 am

    “Maybe MLB is rigging this.

They don’t want a BALCO guy in the homerun derby?”

Bob – You are lost. The Big G is the only guy that came clean. Quit trying to punk him.

  50. PJH July 9th, 2008 at 12:03 am

If anything youd figure MLB would want the home town slugger in the HR Derby.

  51. saucy July 9th, 2008 at 12:03 am

I keep hitting resend on a text message addressed to the same number ten times!

  52. JoeT 28 in 09!! LESS POSTING, MORE VOTING!! - .215 average, 16% CS = AL ALL STAR!! July 9th, 2008 at 12:06 am

that a boy saucy – i would do that but i’m out of the country

  53. pat July 9th, 2008 at 12:09 am

    Pete

Tell the Big G if we get him in, we want a shout out to the Lohud Blogers during the homerun derby.

  54. mel July 9th, 2008 at 12:09 am

Quite a game in KC. Sox went up 7-5 in the top of the 11th, but KC tied it up off Linebrink.

  55. saucy July 9th, 2008 at 12:10 am

And I finally just got a ton of thank you responses

  56. PJH July 9th, 2008 at 12:12 am

you probably overloaded their system with votes.

  57. Don Vito A. Bellamo July 9th, 2008 at 12:12 am

Games back in the loss column….all that matters….to the team that is NOT going to be there in the end, we are 8 games back in the loss column….if those DAMN TWINS knew how to pitch late in a game,,,,we would be only 2 games back in the loss column to the Sux….as it stands, we are only 3 games back in the loss column to Bah-Stahn. After we win the slugfest tomorrow ( Ponson (yuck) against Jackson..)…we are gunna be 1/2 way to that 8 game winning streak we need to hit the ground running after the break. Great win tonight…all around….here’s to Sir Sidney pulling just one more wabbit outta his hat….then he can fade off into the sunset, y’all !!!

  58. Kevin July 9th, 2008 at 12:16 am

    “Bob,

    Milton Bradley’s replacing Ortiz.

What’s the rule on the DH? One guy doesn’t do it for the whole game right? Are they allowed to pinch hit for the DH without losing the DH?”

But Bradley was already on the team, someone still needs to replace Ortiz on the roster.

  59. Al from BK July 9th, 2008 at 12:19 am

When is Horne or IPK going to be ready I assume after the break but how soon after the break. I wish Hughes would come back early and make a real impact this second half a few wins would be nice and set him up for next year.

  60. Bob(The Original) July 9th, 2008 at 12:19 am

    “Maybe MLB is rigging this.

They don’t want a BALCO guy in the homerun derby?”

Bob – You are lost. The Big G is the only guy that came clean. Quit trying to punk him.

What are you talking about? I love the big G.

You don’t think sleaze ball Selig wouldn’t rig it to save himself the embarrassment of having a confirmed steroid user in the home run derby?

  61. Al from BK July 9th, 2008 at 12:22 am

Even though it is fun watching Joba in the rotation Joba and Franchise would be even nicer.

  62. j July 9th, 2008 at 12:24 am

i wonder if the runner-up in the final man voting would take ortiz spot

  63. PJH July 9th, 2008 at 12:26 am

    Royals gonna tie it again?

  64. jennifer July 9th, 2008 at 8:30 am

What exactly has Rob Thomson done wrong as the bench coach? He paid his dues why should he lose his job becuase someone else did. Please!

  65. bigjf July 9th, 2008 at 12:45 pm

The idea of Willie back at the stadium is too good to pass up. You win, Jason. Voting now…
