I don't know why he would have signed for cheap with the yankees unless guaranteed a place in the starting rotation and why would we have wanted to block Hughes or Kennedy based on what we saw from them last year to give Lohse a spot. You can say it would have worked out better in hindsight but its hard to have thought that would have been a good move. Garza wasn't a free agent and cost the Rays Delmon Young. Who would you have traded to get Garza? I don't see a match there. With the lineup aging, i think some of the injuries were predictable. Our pitching (at least the injured parties) are mostly young though so I think that was a bit of bad luck to lose both Hughes and Wang.
