I bet all of these holes could have been managed well by Joe Torre, right (as it sounds like Peter is suggesting)? Maybe we can realize that Torre would have used 2 relief pitchers this entire year, and given up on everyone else.

Glad some folks agree with my point: this team still has holes. Some fine examples were cited.

Another hole is lack of consistent hustle by everyone. Some are more guilty than others, some more often than others.

But every team has holes. The Red Sox have millions of them ... just look at their fan base.

Depending on who's writing the comment, there's a fatal flaw with every aspect of the team!

"The Yankees do have holes. I disagree that one of them is the pen, which has been stellar. Sure there’s no lefty, but I’d rather have the pen in its current form (minus Hawkins) than with a default LOOGY who isn’t any good (such as Traber or Myers)."

somewhere, Wayne Franklin is out there and seeking employment.

"How about that gaping hole in centerfield? Or the offensive hole at catcher with Posada out. No bench to speak off, no lefty reliever. Poor defense at short. etc etc. That enough holes for you to see with those rose colored glasses on?"

know what's weird? while i agree the team has holes, none of those are the actual holes i think this team has.

how about the fourth and fifth starter slots being dicey propositions? how about the overabundance of fragile veteran OF/DH types which cannot be trusted to stay healthy in a stretch run? how about an abandonement of the philosophy of smallball, or players at the bottom of the lineup patient enough to successfully implement it? those are our holes, my friend. you're listing commenter talking points.

"Like I said in the sentence immediately after that statement, the Yankees have no bench because they’ve decided to carry 13 pitchers and 3 catchers, If they could run their roster more intelligently this wouldn’t be a problem"

Who is being blocked from being of the bench because of 13 pitchers and 3 catchers?

By the way if you haven't noticed the Yankees pitching staff isn't exactly a bunch of horses going 7 innings and better ever night. You need a lot of pitchers on a team with multiple starters who don't go past 7 innnigs.
