Randy:

Big difference here is that Patrick is a solid poster. Well stated posts. Good grammar. Has knowledge of the game. Little mean streak here and there but not too mean.

Now if you threaten to bench me and all that's left to read are morons who refer to the Sux and the Mutts or think that Jeter sits at the right hand of the Father, then I'm sleeping easy.

fredo corleone

you've been benched for broken record thinking. i'm reading Patrick â„¢ from now on.

i'll check in next week to see if your posts get up to his level.

see how competition works.

it doesn't have to be fair. it doesn't have to be logical.

it just has to be there.

even though you could care less what i think, i guarantee you try to make your next post better than you would have.

Fredo----

Maybe, maybe not. In 307 AB for Texas last year Cruz had decent power stats -- 9 HR, 34 RBI with a lousy BA .235

His Triple-A stats are far superior to anything Shelley Duncan ever put up, so what the hell... gotta get a RH bat somewhere... if ot him, who? I've lobbied for a guy like Nady.. even Juan Rivera would be useful.

"gardner’s presence signals a change in the thinking of the yankees."

Were they thinking something like: "We have two injured outfielders. We better get one up from AAA"

"competition drives athletes."

Sure it does. Problem is Gardner is a Ma & Pa hardware store and Damon, Matsui and Abreu are Home Depot and Lowes

read: Gardner's not a good enough player to represent real competition for those players.

"Is it me, or has Cano turned into the best glove at 2nd in the AL?"

He's good but he isn't nearly as good as Mark Ellis. Cano is probably second though.

"Hogwash. If Damon, Abreu, Melky and Matsui are healthy, the kid isn’t even up here. "

hogwash to your hogwash.

competition drives athletes.

one of the problems with the yankees is that too many players think they are locks for their positions.

one of billy martin's skills was that he could make even a reggie jackson compete for his position.

you , fredo, are missing the very point i'm making. it doesn't matter if the regulars are better. they have to earn it every day it. i would have played gonzales at 2nd long ago to push cano. i would have pinch hit for arod with runners on third and less than two outs late in a game. i would have benched giambi when he hit the right fielder when trying to throw to second.

these regulars need to find a way to improve what they suck at. does giambi make 100 throws a day to second. i doubt it. does arod practice shotening up and making contact when he needs to. no way. sits their butts down and put someone else in.

if it embarrasses them so much the better.

yankee players are way too happy and content. good for cows. bad for baseball players.
