You know what, everyone and his sister said to dump giambi he sucks blah blah blah, I say sign this guy to a reazonable contract play him at first against leftys and bring off the bench when needed he can play the outfield and he still has pop (11hr).

I am not a Yankee fan, but unlike my Mariners, I do consider the Yanks an actual major league team. If they pick up Richie that will change. He is an above average first baseman. He is a horrible hitter, horrible. His strike out ratio is painful, he is slower than your average glacier sliding down a mountain and when he swings and misses, he misses by three feet. He is NOT a hard worker, other than that he is really productive. I follow baseball a lot, this guy makes Dave Kingman look like Pet Rose. Why would any good fans even want to have to watch this guy? Trust me. You would be better off signing Bill Buckner.

The way I see it is that he could help alot…when some body knows they are not needed and not usefull some might just stop trying…but I believe since being release by his club he might want to prove to everyone that he is not washed up and usefull to someone plus he was benched for Cairo…he will be a good sign

I believe that Kielty is a minor league sox player now. Apparently they had the same thought as you.

I forgot about carrying 13 pitchers. It seems that the pen has settled some now and it might be necessary anymore.

I don’t know the answer to this question, and their obviously has to be one: where is Bobby Kielty? Did he have some sort of horrible injury, or is he playing somewhere where it is hard to notice (say, Washington or something). In December, I was thinking he was a perfect fit for the Yankees: both OF corners, first base, and center field in a pinch, plus a switch hitter that crushes LHP. Where is the guy?

Part of the problem is also carrying 13 pitchers. That shouldn’t be necessary – let Giese be a long man, option Traber or DFA Hawkins. Traber hasn’t pitched in 6 days, Hawkins and Giese in 7. There’s your spot.

The problem with replacing Christian with Sexson – no backup OF.

I too would prefer a better option, and for me that’s Nady. I know it means trading someone. Pitt would want pitching, and maybe a 3B. But Nady’s no A-lister – this is also a salary dump for Pitt from a surplus position. By my count we have 16 starting pitchers in the top 4 minors levels age 23 through 25, including those on the DL that have pitched this year. Hughes is not on that list. Current DL’s could be included as PTBNs. Almost all have performed fairly well to very well. And we have more RRP’s than you can shake a stick at. How much is enough? I can’t believe we can’t survive without some of them. Sure the cost might be higher than we think is justified – then don’t do the deal and look elsewhere. Likely only 2 – 4 of these guys are going to see significant time in NY in the next 3 years. That leaves 12 unused arms. Almost every one is better than what Pitt’s got coming. I’d prefer IPK and McCutchen weren’t involved, but let’s hear some ideas.

Why not take Sexson? He hits lefties better than what we have to offer now. Yes he does strike out alot, but he can play D and look at the “RIGHTY” lineup we are sending up there right now. That mess last night was so disheartening. I would love to have had Sexson striking out last night at least I would have been thinking he might also hit one a mile at any time. He could have also made The play at first that Jorge missed. It would be unthinkable to miss out on Sexson. A fresh start might give his supposed “slow bat” new life.

For those that called Cain “a horse” this year, wrong….he’s pitching in a pitcher’s league, in a pitcher’s league, in a pitcher’s park. He had a 4.30 ERA starting today. He’s hardly been a horse. He’s barely qualifying as a Shetland pony. No way does he bring a Robinson Cano. If you haven’t noticed, pitching hasn’t been the big problem. Offense has. He provides offense and defense. Nobody turns a faster DP than Cano, and nobody goes to his left and right equally and throws chest high strikes to first base from every angle.

I see no reasons to pass on Sexson if he wants to play here. Only play him against lefties and drop Moeller or Christian. We don’t have any chemistry to ruin or youngsters to block. Betemit can’t hit lefties and is no whiz at 1b anyways. Worst case is he stinks and we dump him, just like Ponson. Sierra, Justice, Canseco and Glenallen Hill all seemed to find some spark once they got to NY.
