"CaptainsCorner July 13th, 2008 at 5:30 pm

How much longer is it going to take for the Yanks and especially Jeter realize that Burnett is not a good pitcher and they are probably the only team who can’t beat him. The guy is a .500 pitcher for a reason to go along with his 5.30 era this year."

AJ burnett is not nearly as pedestrian as you'd like to wrongly believe, he's done very well against the yankees before this season and it certainly is not just the yankees he makes trouble for, his Career vs red sox = 4-0, 1.98 era in 5 games. When he is healthy he's a more dominating pitcher than the guy everyone around here seems to wet their pants about, CC sabathia. Granted CC fatbody would be more of lock to eat innings (and everything else that sterling hasnt put his finger in). I for one would be happy for cashman to at least find out what it would take to land him

What Cashman does between now and the end of 7/31 for personnel moves will be telling.
No moves indicates the white flag has been raised. If he makes moves for the short term, he feels the team can still make a season of it.
If he makes moves for the long term, start thinking about 2009 and beyond.

AAAA Players ? THAT is what's wrong with this team ? Really ?

I'm afraid that term doesn't mean what you think it means. Andy Phillips ? Yeah, AAAA player. Darrel Rasner ? Maybe. But, alas, he didn't pitch today. Betemit ? Gardner ? Christian ? No, no, and no. One is a utility bench player and the other two are flat out rookies without enough time at the major league level to BE a AAAA player.

So how does too many AAAA players explain Pettitte being mediocre, or A-Rod or Jeter or Abreu ? Anyone ?

Didn't think so. Maybe we can retire the idiotic cliche buzz words ok ?

If we're going to lose abreu and giambi, we'll need RBI or power hitters.. Melky and Gardner are not going to cut it on this team and you can't have an entire center field with a combined HR production of 15 :p

I'd like to see Holliday (it will take a LOT), he can field and hit and is an rbi machine. We'll need that if we lose giambi and abreu which are both at 50+ rbi. Dunno what to do with melky, gardner, and Ajax. None seem to hit worth a lick, I think they are all excellet trade bait. Alone they aren't worth much but when added with others they might be able to lure some good players from some rebuilding teams.

Sorry, but not EVERY farm player we have is a future all-star waiting to happen. Go after Holliday and CC and we'll be gold for 2009. Wang, CC, and Joba is all you need for a 2009 ring, because as we all know, pitching wins championships.

Jorge, it's the same gang that hasn't been able to win it over the last few years.

Mussina and Pettite are very doubtful and Matsui has to be a real question mark with his ongoing knee problems.

The young guys like Cano and Melky who need time to gain maturity it seems are making excellent progress. Cano who is now in his third year of learning the strikezone which is something that you don't do in the minors according to some diehearts here, went 69 AB's without a walk. Given another 10 years who knows how far they will go.

The youth express is a tad shy on air in several of the tires.

Jorge-
That lineup looks like more of the same, and supposedly Miranda is a terrible fielder.

Speaking of Santana though, what would his record be with this offense?? Not that good, and you’d be locked in to many yeare with him, and he would probably blow out his arm.

At least he would be pitching, even before his latest injury Hughes was ineffective with a high ERA and he wasn't losing games because of lack of run support. If we are re building with a 21 year old that hasn't been able to pitch most of the last two years I'm feeling real confident about the future.

I'm glad the All Star break is here, perhaps they will take their kids to the batting cages or play a little T ball and come back with some level of playing to their ability. Thank God for some key hits yesterday after they were in a hole, else it would have been a sweep.

"The day the Red Sox have one more world championship than the Yankees I will be a broken person."

That's really your only choice now, isn't it? Live in the past?

I can see it now, 2010 and the red sox have won 3 more championships.

Mark: "We still have 26 championships!

You're a funny little man mark :)
