You-kill-us! You-kill-us!

Spoke to Kevin Youkilis, who admitted he was hoping that the fans in the bleachers would do a roll call tomorrow night.

“That’s one of my favorite things at the Stadium,” he said. “It would be kind of cool if they did it.”

Then Youkilis laughed.

“I’m not sure they’ll do it for me, Dustin (Pedroia) or Manny. But I would love to wave at those guys.”

I’d rather give Youkilus another shiner

  2. Tony

has there been any more word on the idea of Mo pitching the first tomorrow?

  3. Chris Berman

I actually hope they do it, this is the All-Star game, we must unite with our enemies to fight a greater evil (The National League)

  4. gayle

Tony it is n ot going to happen Cliff Lee is the starter and more importantly i heard a quote this morning that when Mo was asked about it he said I am a closer.

  5. Mike

I hope it doesn’t make me a “bad” yankee fan, but I don’t really hate the guys on the Red Sox. Youk can be irritating, and Manny too, and I love beating them, but you can’t deny their quality. It’s the crappy fans, of whom we have many also, that make it more about being vindictive than competitive.

  6. Fredo Corleone

“has there been any more word on the idea of Mo pitching the first tomorrow?”

Unless he changed his name to Cliff Lee, it’s not happening.

Don’t want it to happen anyway. Let’s say Mo pitches the 1st and does fine. Game goes onward and it’s 4-2 AL heading to the 9th……….and Papelbon comes on to close. You going to feel good about Mo pitching the 1st then????

  7. gayle

Also getting back to a previous htread at least AROD has not been relegated to handing out a paper statement to every reporter that asks him the question ie Jim Leyritz

  8. Tony

Oh duh I even read that haha. Just not paying attention I guess. Its one of those days at work.

  9. saucY

i really doubt any roll-calls will be going on from the bleachers tomorrow. unless MLB/Yankees coordinate it somehow. am i wrong to assume the stands will be 99% tourists and 95% won’t even know what the roll call is…

  10. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

I’d just like to see a roll call for Bobby Murcer.

  11. Fredo Corleone

Good point Gayle. I give Arod credit for committing to memory the canned statement his people prepared for him.

  12. Brandon (Jeter GIDP: 14) (Johan Santana HR count: 13 and a SP)

    Me too Rebecca.

  13. JoeT 28 in 09!!

I definitely want to hear the roll call tomorrow night…. if they happen to skip, I don’t know, say three positions… that would be fine – and hilarious, they’d probably play the whole thing out on ESPN lol

  14. Fran

The marquis outside Yankee Stadium says,
    Bobby 1946-2008

There is supposed to be a tribute to him before the game tomorrow night.

  15. Aaron

It’s hilarious how classy and gracious Francona and the Sox players have been compared to all the Yankee fans who are just ENRAGED that Youks and Pedroia are starting the all star game.

  16. george

how about a roll call for just the 3B & SS?

  17. 27 this year

I would rather have Mo pitch the final inning and send off the Stadium. THis is the last all star game at Yankees Stadium and there is no one better to end it than Mo. If Papalbon is going to close, i might shoot myself.

  18. fred from jersey

    yeh thats gunna happen

  19. jennifer

I”d love for them to do a roll call and ignore the sox players!!

  20. Brandon (Jeter GIDP: 14) (Johan Santana HR count: 13 and a SP)

Fredo well sometimes even he needs that extra assistance even w/ a former stripper leaking sex stories online.

  21. S.A.- I believe in this team but can the offense stop being so offensive?

It’s hilarious how classy and gracious Francona and the Sox players have been compared to all the Yankee fans who are just ENRAGED that Youks and Pedroia are starting the all star game.

ENRAGED? Did these particular Yankee fans turn into the Hulk or something?

  22. PG

That would be great if Youk, Pedroia, and Manny were left out of the roll call.

    http://www.pgsportsworld.blogspot.com

  23. Fredo Corleone

    Brandon:

He’d need that extra assistance if the question was “What’d you have for breakfast?”

  24. Brandon (Jeter GIDP: 14) (Johan Santana HR count: 13 and a SP)

    Not touching that one Fredo

  25. Michael

How about the fact that the entire stadium will be filled with corp nerds who could care less. Also if there is going to be roll call how about Yankees suc. They do and the fans are giving them a pass. The fans these days at the park are so pathetic. Boring, do not get up and get excited unless someone hits a 3 run homer.

  26. Dis Custard

Who really cares? Its the “All-Star” game which still means nothing.

I hope to never see any of those three sox players on the Yankees.

  27. Michael

All star games means home field. What means nothing is the Yankee offense.

  28. Doris From Rego Park

Dis- yes, yankees are set with the Wilson Betemit/Giambi/Posada platoon at first. Youk would be a huge dissapointment there

  29. CaptainsCorner

Someone has to tell the millionaires sitting in those seats how the roll call is done. I would hope if there is one that that Youk who thinks he is Babe Ruth is not in it.

  30. Jorge Steinbrenner

I bet a guy like Youk goes to bed at night wishing he could wear the pinstripes before he retires.

they may have one up on us these past few years, but they will never, ever, truly surpass us.

  31. Dis Custard

Doris, I can’t stand Youkilis. I hate his whining, his temperment, his ugly face, I’d rather suffer through a few years of Betemit being the firstbaseman than seeing the Yankees have Youkilis on the team.

Certain players I have no respect for. Youkilis is one of them.

Pedroia isn’t worth it either, as he takes after Youkilis with the whining crap.

Manny is Manny, that is all you need to say there.

  32. Jorge Steinbrenner

“Dis- yes, yankees are set with the Wilson Betemit/Giambi/Posada platoon at first. Youk would be a huge dissapointment there”

I’d take Youk in a heartbeat and wish we could develop a thousand guys just like him. i think i can say that as a Yankee fan.

  33. george

i don’t think any non-medicated fans are enraged – Youkilis and Pedroia deserve it for this year, and Manny deserves it because he’s a great hitter, despite his ever-classless act.

however, doing a roll call for them, or not booing them, is another matter. it would be fun if they do get royally booed, just on general Rivalry principles.

  34. Jorge Steinbrenner

“however, doing a roll call for them, or not booing them, is another matter. it would be fun if they do get royally booed, just on general Rivalry principles.”

exactly. i respect good baseball players, regardless of the uniform they wear. if they wear the wrong one, though, you boo the living hell out of them every time. nothing personal. :)

  35. Dis Custard

Jorge- if the Yankees had even one Youkilis playing for them, I’d rarely bother to watch them.

  36. Jason

Bald Vinny says no to the roll call…

  37. Jason

    http://bleachercreatures43670......tml?page=5

  38. tony

NO CHANCE a red sox will ever get a roll call

  39. Aaron

I bet a guy like Youk goes to bed at night wishing he could wear the pinstripes before he retires.

they may have one up on us these past few years, but they will never, ever, truly surpass us.
    ————————————————————

Yea I’m sure that Youks and his 2 WS rings goes to bed every night wishing that he could be on a 3rd place team….

  40. Ben

In keeping with tradition, the Bleacher Creatures should do the roll call.

  41. 56Bomber

“I’d just like to see a roll call for Bobby Murcer.”

Now that would be awesome. Just after the National Anthem… you here “Bob-ee MUR-cer”… for about 5 minutes.

  42. Yewnork

I think bobby murcer should be in the roll call. It would be touching.

  43. dan

They should have Giambi in the roll call in place of where Youkilis would be.

  44. Doreen

I know none of you will agree with me on this, but I think if there is a roll call, it should include ALL the players on the field. THAT would be a classy thing to do. THAT would honor Yankee Stadium and the spirit of competition and greatness.

  45. Chris N.

I know that the stadium will probably have a good percentage of out of towners but there should at least be some hometown presence given that all star tickets were available to all season ticket holders, right? I can’t imagine that most s.t. holders passed up the opporunity to go to this. I at least hope I’m not going to be there booing the Red Sox mercilously and cursing out little kids wearing Pedroia jerseys alone.

  46. JR Yankees

I wouldn’t mind the roll call even for some of the Sox players…like Youkilis and Mannyy. I do think of the 3 starting that Pedroia does not deserve to be there.

Therefore, when doing roll call, when it comes time to announce the second baseman, everybody should shout ‘Ian Kinsler’ who is head and shoulders more deserving than Dustin Pedroia. Now that would be hilarious.

  47. JR Yankees

And Dan, I must have been typing my post up while your’s was being posted. Promise…not trying to steal ideas from you.

  48. Glenn

Roll call all names except Boston. For them, dead silence.
Obviously Bobby Murcer gets the loudest.

  49. Matt

i was debating this very with my friends. I cant see the Yankees doing a roll call for Youkilis and Pedroia or Manny. But I definetly see Jeter and A-Rod getting their names chanted and possibly the non-red sox starters.

  50. 86w183

The classier move is definitely to do the entire roll call. But you gotta boo the Sawx during introductions.

Youkilis is one of those guys who I think his own fans love and everyone else hates. Paul O’Neill had that effect with his intensity, too.

A Bob-By Mur-cer roll call would be incredible and would be the best of all tributes to him…

Don’t be negative about including Manny in the roll call—- he may not notice from the planet he’s on at any given point in time.

  51. Johnny Damon's beard

Boo Youkilis and it will just sound like a “Yoooooouk” chant. Show some class, like the Yankees did at the 2005 Fenway ring ceremony.
He’s slumped a bit this season, but with Bonds gone, Manny Ramirez is the best hitter in baseball.

  52. Russell NY

“I bet a guy like Youk goes to bed at night wishing he could wear the pinstripes before he retires.”

I second that. I actually know it for a fact so no one here can dispute it.

  53. Russell NY

“Therefore, when doing roll call, when it comes time to announce the second baseman, everybody should shout ‘Ian Kinsler’ who is head and shoulders more deserving than Dustin Pedroia. Now that would be hilarious.”

    Hahahaha, so true.

  54. Timmy Lupus

“He’s slumped a bit this season, but with Bonds gone, Manny Ramirez is the best hitter in baseball.”

Manny is great, but that title belongs to Albert Pujols.

  55. Old Lady

It would sicken me if Youkilis and Pedroia were in a roll call.

Youkilis flips out after every K and I’m not forgetting that little overreaction when Joba threw three feet over his head. As for Little Slappy, he whined to the press when A-Rod did a takeout slide into 2nd that he didn’t like…in a game where he did the same thing to Jeter.

They may be decent players, but they don’t deserve that sort of respect at YS.

  56. mark - Play Moeller! Yankees can win it all with the players they have.

If only Youklis wasn’t SO DAMNED UGLY!

  57. YankeesLuv

I would do the roll call but leave out the red sox players.

  58. Johnny Damon's beard

I always think the ASG rewards good first halves. Shouldn’t the second half of last year count for something? Jeter and Varitek are there by reputation only, but Pedroia deserves his spot. The little guy can play.

  59. Fan

//I bet a guy like Youk goes to bed at night wishing he could wear the pinstripes before he retires.

they may have one up on us these past few years, but they will never, ever, truly surpass us.//

Youkilis is from Cincinnati and grew up a Reds fan. He was drafted by the Sox, came up through their system, and won two World Series in Boston.

My God, Yankees fans are deluded.

  60. Fletch

//My God, Yankees fans are deluded.

    Do the math jerkoff.

  61. Red Sox Fan

Yes I am sure that Youkilis, with his two WS rings, would love to go play for a team that can’t score more than two runs a game. That guy has more intensity than the entire Yankee team.

Pedroia deserves to be an All-Star, just like he deserved to be Rookie of the Year. Watch him play, he’s impressive.

And Manny is one of the best hitters in the game. Period.

Sorry for being a troll. Believe it or not, I do respect the Yanks. They’ve been a great ballclub for a very long time (unfortunately ;] ).

  62. David

I think the bigger obstacle to Youk hearing his name chanted is that there will be no regular Yankees fans in attendance. they were all priced out in favor of corporate honchos.

  63. Big Al

You guys need to grow up. They are all united for tomorrow nights game and it could be the Yankees that benefit from the win. Do you think that the players are all spiteful like some of you are on this board? Heck no. All you hear is quotes of Yankees complimenting Red sox players and vice versa. Grow the hell up! (Or are you all children)
I can’t wait to hear the responses, come on brats, let’s hear it!
    Go Yanks 2008

  64. BCer

If you guys understand the roll call, this wouldn’t even be a discussion. It was something that started between the fans of Section 39 and the Yankee players. It’s not about other teams, it’s not about other players.

No other player from any other team will ever be in the roll call. It’s not tradition. It’s not that classy things to do. It’s just the way it is.

Don’t assume just because you see the roll call everyday and think ‘it’s cool’ that you understand it.

  65. Jan

From what i remember when soriano was playing for texas he got a roll call. i understand he used to play for the yankees but he wasnt in pinstripes anymore. so why can he as an opposing player get that honor? you guys out there are taking this too seriously. the all star game is suppose to be fun. it would be nice and classy to see a roll call but if they are gonna be babies about it because it is only for the yankee players and no one else then i guess everyone has to just let it be.

  66. Adolf Hitler

I’ll chant You-kike-lis’s name. Dumb Red Sux lol.

  67. JimmyD

“Therefore, when doing roll call, when it comes time to announce the second baseman, everybody should shout ‘Ian Kinsler’ who is head and shoulders more deserving than Dustin Pedroia. Now that would be hilarious.”

Does that mean that Michael Young’s name should be chanted when it’s Captain Jete’s turn in the roll call?
