July

Fox goes on the air at 8 p.m. First pitch is scheduled for 8:39 p.m.

If you have tickets: Gates open at 5 p.m., which is when the AL will take batting practice. The NL batting practice will be at 6:05 p.m.

The ceremonial first pitch (by whom, we don’t know yet) will be at 8:22 p.m.

Sheryl Crowe will do the National Anthem and Josh Groban is on tap for God Bless America.

Even with it being at the stadium, I’m having a hard time getting excited to watch this.

  2. rb15

first pitch = bernie? torre? yogi?

  3. Chris N.

Do you now anything about the order from 8PM on? i.e do starting lineups come before the first pitch/national anthem? Is all that stuff before or after the older players being honored? Anyone who has memories from past years of how they have done it, feel free to chime in.

  4. JMO

The only problem is that Crow’s singing is indistinguishable from the cries of a wounded cat.

  5. Rebecca--Optimist Prime-Mo for Cy Young 08

Just hope it’s someone good and deserving.

  6. YankeesLuv

I’m hoping for the Boss George S. to throw out the first pitch.
    Sheryl Crowe? Borrrinnnnggg.

  7. Patrick

    Peter,
At least you’ll be able to pass the time, listening to the new Bruce Springsteen download.

  8. Cam

Well, here’s hoping Crow does’t tell me I need to use only 1 piece of toilet paper. I am, after all, not a hamster.

  9. Westerner99

I hope and pray Fox announcers don’t talk over the player introductions on the base lines.

  10. Johnny Damon's beard

    I was hoping for Madonna.

  11. JMO

Plus the national anthem is a tough song to sing…requires a wide vocal range…which means Crow will be really bad.

BERNIE BERNIE BERNIE. the crowd would go nuutss. and they would love torre too but that would be kind of weird. And yogi always gets to do this stuff, although he is of course deserving.

  13. Evan

How do you NOT have Ronan Tynen singing God Bless America!?

  14. Johnny Damon's beard

Sidney Ponson is a fat Aruban slug. If he and Bartolo Colon ever pitch against each other, they should cancel the game and have a sumo match instead.

  15. saucY

i honestly can’t think of anyone the crowd would go more wild over throwing out the 1st pitch than Bernie. i’m crossing my fingers…

  16. Joe

Evan, I am puzzled by that too.

  17. pat

How about Whitey to Yogi for the first pitch?

  18. retire #51 (and let him throw out the first pitch)

    bernie bernie

  19. Don Capone

First pitch has to be Yogi.

  20. Don Capone

And what’s up with Crowe singing the national anthem? How about a NYer, like Billy Joel or Paul Simon?

  21. Paul M.

Bernie Williams throwing out the first pich? Folks, we’re talking national stage here. I see the Big Stein coming out to throw the first pitch to Yogi Berra.

  22. JR

    8:39 p.m. is indefensible

  23. murphydog

How do you NOT have Ronan Tynen singing God Bless America!?

Agreed. But remember this is not a NY Yankees production, this is an MLB/FOX event. Ronan just doesn’t appeal to FOX’s target demographic.

  24. murphydog

    “8:39 p.m. is indefensible.”

    Not on the West Coast.

  25. Evan

Sorry, in a celebration of Yankee stadium, Ronan’s voice has been as much a part of the stadium as Bob Shepard’s in recent years. Clearly Shepard is the voice of Yankee Stadium, and Ronan is not as important, but in October, it’s one of the seminal moments that makes Yankee stadium so special.

i searched espn.com and mlb.com in vain for the first-pitch time. i knew i could count on you to have it. thanks.
