Matsui puts up good regular-season numbers. But starting with Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS Matsui has the grand total of 2 RBIs in the playoffs. Makes A-Rod look clutch.

"Trades for a player, right handed bat should be looking to both this season and 2009, for the FA’s we won’t sign."

Nady's been slightly above average in his career. Trading for him now would be buying at peak value. And Holliday's not the big bat he seems. Take him out of Coors and he's Hideki Matsui circa 2005 or so. Very good, but not great. But you have to spend like he's great in order to get him.

I agree that Abreu doesn't look worth keeping. But that doesn't mean that you buy high on the biggest trade market names (Bay, Holliday, Nady) in order to replace him. The Yanks can afford to buy high with money if they want, but shouldn't do so with their talent.

"Casey Blake batted .190 with RISP in 2007."

Yeah. He's not been a great player. Though, he's hitting better overall this season than last. How's he doing with RISP in 2008?

"No question now. With Damon out for at least another 10 or so days and Matsui out for the year, Cashman MUST get that righthanded bat (Nady or Holliday) or declare this a lost season."

Do you think that Nady or Holliday puts this team in the world series? If not, what is the point of making such an acquisition?

"well, if it’s not in any blogs than it must not be true than! lol. you are delusional."

By "mainstream blogs" I mean blogs by Neyer, Gammons, Stark, Rosenthal or a guy like that. Legit reporters, the places where we get pretty much ALL our trade rumor info.

Also...did you pay attention to the context of the comment? Brandon said he heard something on the radio. I said that I can't find any evidence of this comment anywhere, not even blogs.

So...I'm delusional for not taking Brandon's unsubstantiated word for it?

I don't like Bonds. At all. But he'll cost no talent, and he MIGHT improve the lineup. Why not let him try to work into game shape in the minors and see what happens? He's obviously just a DH (if he's even that), but so were Matsui and Damon, who look like they'll be out a while. Maybe he'll get on base, which is more than you can say about most guys in the lineup...

So, we hate him. Maybe we'll get to see him flop as a Yankee and have the opportunity to boo him. Could be fun. Or maybe he'll be good. Even better. Try him out. Try Sexon out. Heck, dig up Sammy Sosa's and Juan Gonzalez's corpses and fit them for pinstripes, too! Bottom line: we shouldn't be trading any prospects to try to rescue this season, so the scrap heap is all we have...

"If Farnsworth declines he’s probably not in the top 20% relievers over past two years"

I don't see how there's a causal relationship here. If his agent thinks he can get a multi-year deal, he'll decline arbitration. Or, if he doesn't want to play in NY anymore. That's also possible. Keep in mind that Vizcaino got a 2 year deal, and Kyle's only going to be 33. Someone will give him a 2 year deal.

Even if he's only a type-B, that's got value. Sure...if they can package him in a deal that brings back something interesting now, go for it. But if they still have him, I don't think it'll be risky to offer him arbitration. At all.

"But I don’t want Abreu back."

Fine. He won't accept arbitration either, probably. So...there's no real risk there. Dunn can't play RF, and Bradley can't play the field consistently, so I don't really see them as competition for Abreu. He'll certainly believe that he can get 2 year offers somewhere else.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a GM giving out that many details on the radio. I also can’t imagine that a GM could have publicly stated that info without a post winding up on one of the mainstream blogs or mlbtraderumors. And I didn’t find any such post.
