and the question is, will they at least make your ‘top 10 teams’ list this coming sunday?
Any one else here the rumor about the Dodgers asking for Cano in a possible Lowe/Kemp deal?
Personally I’d rather keep Cano in that deal. I think if they really wanted to trade Cano he could bring back a bit more. Don’t get me wrong Kemp has been good and looks like he has a bright future, I just think there is better out there if hes on the block.

that has been important and hopefully will continue
not saying anything else isn’t… but that has been key since the break.
Above stats = why you keep Cano… he’s spreading out the line-up now and isn’t an auto-out. You need a hot bat like Cano’s if we’re going to be playing Molina and Melky everyday

Kemp is already Canos equal with the bat. He would replace Abreu and lock up RF for a decade. Plus we would get Lowe, this trade rumor is WAY to good to be true.
Throw in Kennedy and I would do it in a heartbeat.

why would the yankees have to throw in Kennedy?
Cano is a superior player to Kemp. they are similar hitters but Cano plays a premium position, and plays it very well.
it is the Dodgers adding Lowe to make it work.
Three words: Small sample size.

I think most of the people on the blog would value Cano higher than you do. Even if Kemp was as productive as Robbie, you have to factor in Robbie’s excellent defense at an offensively weak position.
Tons of OF’s put up numbers, but Robbie is a top 5 2B.
Let me just add that I hope the Yankees keep it up, but this is really just the offense regressing to the mean.
I wouldn’t. Unless that other name is Josh Hamilton, Clayton Kershaw or Fransisco Liriano, I wouldn’t deal Cano. And what’s this BS about Kemp, have you seen this guy field the OF he’s a butcher, there is a reason he’s on the block.
I thought Kemp was older, no?
I don’t know, something about that deal just seems off to me.
Rebecca,
Kemp is two years younger than Robbie.
With winning both series, that’s now 10 straight home wins. The last time that happened in one season was back in 1998. What a season that was!
We’re right at .600 at home this season and there’s only 26 regular season home games left.
No to any Cano trade.
All we have to do is have the calenders in the clubhouse printed with only one month - July.
Robi Cano for a 2B when he’s asleep is one of the top 5 in the league
Robi Cano when he’s awake is the best 2B in MLB, w/ outfield production, we’re talking about him and Brandon Philips and Cano is the guy who hits at a better clip when he plays his “A” game.
Kemp can’t field the OF is around middle of the field in production, those guys are numerous.
The only thing I see in the Cano deal is that Cano would be a better player in LA… the hotter weather would have him with a better first half than usual.
It isn’t a great deal for the Yankees. Lowe? Eh.
“Cano is a superior player to Kemp. they are similar hitters but Cano plays a premium position, and plays it very well.

Corner Outfielder is harder to fill with than 2B.
Kemp is a 5 tool player. Maybe Kennedy would be too much but I find it hard to believe the Dodgers, who are still in it, would give up one of their main starting pitchers and not expect a major league arm in return.
The Post is about a month late on any Cano to the Dodgers talk. That proposed deal was on the table a month ago and the Yankees turned it down. Doubtful they would take it now.
I just think the team would be better off with Kemp in the long run.
You have that Outfield position filled out for a decade and you can sign somebody like Orlando Hudson next year. Kemp plays the outfield fine, above average speed and was leading the NL in assists sometime back(not sure about now).
The addition of Lowe would just put it over the top for me. Lowe is a solid 4 who in my opinion, is much better than Washburn.
Could be interesting if you throw in Abreu and see if you can pry some of the Dodgers younger pitching talent. Kershaw comes to mind.
Cano’s defense is more important with the Yankees rotation heavy in inducing groundouts, especially when CMW is around.
“Robi Cano when he’s awake is the best 2B in MLB, w/ outfield production, we’re talking about him and Brandon Philips and Cano is the guy who hits at a better clip when he plays his “A” game.”
No he isn’t. The best 2B plays in Philly.
lets hope they can keep it up against boston this weekend.
Brandon -
If Robi is top 5 when he is asleep - he must have been in a coma the 1st half, no?
GW
Not sure what you are basing your idea that 2B is easier to fill - a lot of incompetent defensive players get stashed in the corner OF slots around the league.
The Dodgers are incompetent offensively - maybe they have a good corner OF in the minors but with Andruw Jones such a disappointment they need some pop and production.
Holy Cow - SJ44 sighting. Welcome back.
SJ ? finally where have you been !
No TK a 2B w/ Robi’s offensive tools are harder to find than an OF w/ Kemp’s that’s what I meant.
Rayg ummm some people would say that bandbox is partly why Utley is that good.
“Not sure what you are basing your idea that 2B is easier to fill - a lot of incompetent defensive players get stashed in the corner OF slots around the league.”
I’m talking in terms of filling out the roster for next year and beyond.
RF- Who is available? Do we want to bring Abreu back on a multi year deal? Other than Bobby there is really nobody available.
2B has some options who are slightly comparable to Canos production the last 3 years. Orlando Hudson, Iguchi, and maybe Brian Roberts who I’m not sure but might be a Free Agent. I doubt it though.
Plus Lowe would be the gravy. Lowe would be a very serviceable 3 or 4 for the next year or two. Much better option Jarrod Washburn.
I will admit though, at first I was on the fence about this rumor(a very unlikely deal if at all), then I was excited, and now I’m having second thoughts. I feel for Cashman
playing the a’s and the twins didn’t hurt those stats much either though
SJ44,
I was wondering what you thought of Dellin Bentances, I saw him pitch six shutout innings last Saturday and was extremely impressed. How many years is he away from the bigs?
Thanks.
on FIRE, baby !!!
Brandon,
Been at all of the games on the last 2 homestands, the ASG, and to the Cape to see my nephew. Ties up a lot of time. lol
I don’t think Cano is an untouchable. That said, given today’s market prices, Lowe and Kemp don’t come close to value for him.
If the Rockies wanted Buchholz and Moss from the Red Sox for Fuentes and are asking for FOUR top players (two regulars, 2 A List prospects) for Holliday, the Dodgers offer for Cano doesn’t measure up.
I think the more interesting question re: the Yankees are not about RF next year or Cano. Its about Pettitte and Moose.
You can make a pretty strong argument right now that if the Yankees offer CC a blank check in the off-season (which is the rumor around the game) and re-sign both Moose and Pettitte, they would have the best rotation in baseball coming into next season.
At this point, how do they not re-sign Moose and Pettitte? Where would they be without either guy.
Its not like they can count on Hughes or Kennedy next year.
Wang, CC, Moose, Pettitte and Joba would be pretty formidable. They could also let Farnsworth walk, bring in Melancon and have a bullpen consisting of Mo, Melancon, Veras, Robertson, Ramirez, Bruney and a lefty specialist.
That would be a terrific pitching staff and well within budget.
Best case scenario is 3 years for Betances. Still very, very raw and not a guy on the radar screen (for the majors) right now.
Polanco and Kinsler are better 2B, but Robinson is very, very good.
Earlier this year I tended to think that Moose might make this his last year - I have completely flipped.
Even if he only wins 4-6 more games this year, if he is healthy I believe he will want to come back.
The pitching staff as outline by SJ would be wonderful (wb SJ!)
SJ44,
Another question. lol
Do you see us keeping Rasner/Ponson in the rotation through August, or do you see us trading for a pitcher, say Washburn, or calling up a minor leaguer like Acevas or Ian.+
Thanks again lol

man, this is an exciting post.
but i think i would choose between Pettitte OR Moose. not both.
even if you can’t “count on” Hughes and Kennedy, i think the Yankees would be FINE counting on SOMEONE to fill the #5 spot. some combination of Hughes, Kennedy, Aceves, Rasner, Horne, etc. etc. etc. with your top 3 of CC, Joba, and Wang plus a veteran like Pettitte or Moose, you would absolutely have the luxury of trying to acclimate Hughes with much less pressure. he could be skipped when there were off-days to manage his innings.
signing CC makes SO many things possible next year.
i guess i’d just rather take that money and apply it to Teixiera or whoever else is available to upgrade the offense.
it’s tought to decide if it came down to Moose or Pettitte next year, assuming we get CC. If we don’t, I think we need to bring both back.
As much as 2 good lefties in the same rotation sounds, is Andy worth $16M/year any more? would he possibly want more years now for some reason?
And what would Moose take? I would guess 2 year deal, similar to the last one he signed for.
hmmm - I agree with you completely.
It seems every team needs about 7 - 8 starters over the course of the season. The Yankees would have that with a combination of veterans, younger players, and rookies.
I have no idea, but the roughly 10,000,000 it would take to sign Mussina or Pettite would be well spent elsewhere.
You also have Brackman coming back, Sanchez coming back to help out.
A one year deal with Moose would be great - two years would be scary given the potential for physical breakdown
i have a hard time thinking he’d take 1 year. especially with this year’s production.
i think i could live with either a $13M/1 or $20/2.
Brackman will only pitch in his first game next year. He could be as good as Joba but you dont want to rush him like Kennedy. Plus, he is coming back from TJ and needs time to strengthen.
Last year is still fresh in people’s minds despite how good a year he’s having this year. No guarantee he can do it again, moose get’s 1 year.
Cano IS untouchable. He’s ours, and no one is getting their paws on him. OURS.
