There are some BIG differences with Cano and Grienke.

Cano can handle playing in NY.

Grienke will crack under the pressure

The Yankees keep pushing to pull off a Jarrod Washburn trade but are unwilling to part with center fielder Austin Jackson.

Not so sure that we need to give up Jackson, right ?

"Cano and Greinke are both comparable talents."

Not really. Cano is a proven player who has competed for a batting title and is a .300+ career hitter. Greinke looks great at times, but he's never been superb. Throw Greinke's mental unstableness in there and he doesn't nearly have the worth as Cano does.

"Cano and Greinke are both comparable talents.

IMO Who you take really depends on what the other strengths are in your organization."

Definitely true.

If the Royals had Cano and the Yankees had Greinke, that trade could make sense.

As is, the Yankees really have no one comparable to Cano (Jackson is the closest) in position player talent.

i woundnt worry about washburn's spot in the rotation next season. if the past 4 years have taught us anything, its that you need at least 7 good mlb pitchers to make it through the season.

Cano and Greinke are both comparable talents.

IMO Who you take really depends on what the other strengths are in your organization.

The Royals are not going to trade Greinke. They are building a pitching staff around him and no way Dayton Moore with his background from Atlanta is going to trade a potential #1 starter.

The Royals strength is talented young position players. They have less pitching. Cano doesn't make a lot of sense for them.

And a particular issue for the Royals down the line is where does Mike Mustakas play - they paid him a ton of money - money that makes him a player whose future they have to consider when making moves. Mustakas is not a SS and 3b is plugged by Alex Gordon. Many people think Mustakas eventually winds up at 2b.

From the yankees perspective they really don't have many talented position players. Pitching wins but they really have accumulated a number of guys with true front line potential.

They're comparable talents so that makes a trade interesting. But the needs of the respective teams are so different that I don't think it's a good fit for either.

I'm guessing players drafted in 2004 who were 18 or younger and players drafted in 2005 who were 19 or older are Rule V eligible this year?
