Yeah...this is what the rivalry needs. Youkilis is a complete hothead, and Joba can throw the ball really really fast.

What would be great would be Joba hitting him then bring in Farnsworth to throw one at him. What would be better then seeing Farnsworth take Youkilis down...After hitting him. Plus, Farnsworth hasn't been in a big fight since he's been a yankee, not like the cubs or Detroit.

Hey Miggs! I decided to take a break from some of the "testiness" shall we say that had descended upon this forum and I headed to much friendlier grounds. However I felt that the series with the Sux would be a fun time to return. And so it has been!

How have you been? Do you notice that this is a much kinder and gentler venue when the Yankees are doing well???

McCutchen is not a top prospect. And does anyone really think Jeff Karstens will ever amount to anything?

I's rather keep Coke, who's as good, if not better, that McCutchen and Kontos, who still has more upside than any of the four pitchers we're discussing. In my mind, this is an even better deal for the Yankees.

This new deal definitely hurts more. In the long term, Karstens is no big loss, but he certainly could have helped this year if Rasner or Ponson falters and the Yanks needed another starter.

Adding Dan McCutchen in hurts more, for the long term. I think he was destined to be traded at some point, but thought his value could be used for something more, perhaps obtaining a better starter. Giving him up for Nady (who I'm not high on) and a reliever (Marte, who I love) just seems a bit much.

SJ is completely right about freeing up 40 man space though. That's a big key that really isn't obvious but is important.

Kontos has a higher ceiling than McCutchen. Kontos is three years younger and more of a strikeout pitcher.

Randy L,

Best post of the morning. Comparing Cashman to Cano is spot on. It takes both of them half a season to wake up.

What I love about this deal though is that he essentially locked in 2 players for next season's needs as well. It showed great foresight.

As for Varitek calling meetings about what to do about Joba, I think that's a farce. Joba hasn't even hit Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart yet.

I loved how Beckett was all ready to charge Joba.

I doubt he would have made it past Giambi's dark Sith-stache last night.

The days of Torre turning the other cheek and hugs and kisses should be over, although I can't imagine Jeter not cuddling with some Red Sox when they reach 2b as he is want to do.

Still, there's been way too much "mutual" respect that seems to only point towards Boston over the past years.

Maybe Cash picking Theo's pocket for Marte and Joba making the chin dance are going to get this back to what it should be.
