You make very good points DFox, but we shall see who was right in the end. Both of us are just flipping a coin anyway.

"I don’t think we will make the playoffs anyway"

Wait, so who's making the playoffs?

The Red Sox and the Twins? The Red Sox and Rangers? Come on, there's practically no competition for the wild card.

Or what, are the Rays going to stick around by scoring 1 run per game like they have for the last month?

I told you guys a week ago that I didn't trust Mussina. So many on this board wanted to sign him for next year. This is an example of why you don't sign a 40 year old pitcher who is having a decent first half of a season when the season is far from over. Watch him the second half; tonight's game is only a precursor to more of the same for the remainder of the season. I applaud him for making some adjustments that got him through the first half in pretty good shape, but even then I never believed it would last.
On the Washburn thing, I say forget it. I live here in L.A. and the Angels were simply fed up with his inconsistency. The L.A. newpapers were full of letters to the editor praising the day the Angels let him go.
The Yanks need to stick with the plan, i.e., getting younger, and getting rid of these overpriced veterans. Let's wait for Hughes and Kennedy to take Ponson and Rasner's spots. I don't think we will make the playoffs anyway, and I said that during our winning streak. We have a very good to excellent bullpen, and two very good starting pitchers. The offense is weak because we have too many players that are simply not clutch in pressure situations (are you listening ARod?), and too many that are good glove and no hit (Molina and Melky). I think Cash should let this season ride out and see what happens, but don't make any more deals!

The Mariners can ask for whatever they want. But they're not going to get him.

Cashman will stand firm on this. Seattle has a chance to get rid of an albatross contract and their bluff has officially been called.

I've said several times in recent days that I think Washburn would be a terrible fit for this team. But, unfortunately, I see him starting against the Angels next weekend.

Seattle will fold in the end. This is their only shot to get rid of Washburn and they know it.

The Mariners are such a joke. I just read that they 1st asked for Austin Jackson and on the nytimes website it says they asked the Yanks for Mark Melancon for Koufax..oh sorry I meant Washburn. This is the exact reason why the Yanks cant trade with anyone especially in the AL because what they ask for can not even be taken seriously. Just like the Santana trade…

WHAT !

"Name me a Yankee position prospect that has made an all star game since Jeter."

Cano but he didn't play in it because of the hamstring injury.
