What I meant to say is that the Yankees compensatory picks are dependent on the team that SIGNS Pudge, not Detroit.

"Now that Pudge is our property - Detroit’s draft status has nothing to do with his value, no?"

I'm not sure I understand your question. Pudge is a type A or B depending on how he plays. However the compensation the Yankees recieve is also dependent on how Detroit plays. If Pudge is a type A and the Tigers have one of the top 15 picks then the Yankees don't get the Tigers 1st round pick. In that case they would get a sandwich pick and the Tiger's second round pick. However if the Tigers are 16th or higher the Yanks would get the 1st round pick and a sandwich pick. (This is all dependent on Pudge being a type A free agent)

"I think the upside of Hermida and Stanton (based on what everyone is saying) is a risk the Sox are obviously willing to take, even if it means not winning this year…I guess."

Even without Manny the Red Sox are still a massive contender, their starting pitching is formidable and still have a solid lineup to say the least. Bullpen is the weak spot. That's where they can get seriously exposed down the stretch.

"I think the upside of Hermida and Stanton (based on what everyone is saying) is a risk the Sox are obviously willing to take"

And even if either one does achieve his upside, very slim chance that he'll be Manny. Manny crosses the barrier from great to special.

If any bigtime outfielders get dangled in years to come, expect the Sox to be involved and Stanton to be tradebait.
