Caught Stealing Percentage
Player 2006 2007 2008 Career
Molina (33) .426 .295 .473 .418
I-Rod. (26) .510 .309 .360 .470

Make of it what you may. Pudge is older, Molina is a lot fatter. Molina has been better this year, in limited games, Pudge was better the previous 3 years and for his career. Who ever you think is 'better', Pudge is still excellent.

As a FULL time Catcher, Pudge has won 13 Gold Gloves in 17 seasons. He is considered on of the best defense Catchers in MLB history. He ain't a kid anymore, but has averaged 133 games over the last 5 years, 129 games last year.

Also, Molina has been great, but it not great at blocking the plate. There have already been a nunber of plays at the plate where he was out of position.

This was an excellent trade. If we get 2 picks for him, it becomes unbelieveable! By the by, you might notice that Cashman LIKES to go for trades that yield draft picks. As a top finishing team, we always get bottom of the barrel picks, and this is one smart way of getting some higher placed picks.

You guys forgot one thing; Pudge Rodriguez loves to snap throw down to 1B to try to catch baserunners. With either Giambi or Sexson taking those throws, look for the baserunners to be on 3B in no time.

A lot of Pudge's success holding baserunners has to do with the guys receiving his throws. Your middle infielders...maybe; but hold your breath if any throws go down to 1B.

The comment about people needing to “get over this Scott Strickland love affair” was directed at you, Tim.
Strickland hasn’t had a decent major league season in SIX YEARS.
And what makes you say that Mark Melancon is not ready, yet? He just hasn’t been called up, yet.
You seem to think that Farnsworth was an important part of the bullpen. Have you watched any games over the past couple of seasons? Farnsworth has, except on a few occasions here and there, been BAD. His recent spate of competency has been nice, but hardly an indication that he’s become reliable. He’s given up 11 homeruns in 44 innings!!

Are you kidding me? In all my dancing and rejoicing over this trade what gave you the idea that I thought Farnsworth was so important? I'm well aware of how many HR's he's given up since I posted it in an earlier comment. I've been praying for years they could unload him. Strickland hasn't had an effective last few years because he was injuried and underwent an operation or two. They are still babying Melancon along and he has little Triple A experience. As for my "love affair" with Strickland, just because I want to see him get a shot with the ML club? Who are their other options in the pen? Bruney is still rehabbing and has been giving up a lot of walks again, Melancon might be passed over.

I look at it this way - Marte replaces Farnsworth, Strickland replaces Hawkins.

And Molina throws guys out at 49%

Crushes the average

49%>>>>>>>>>>31%

Girardi was one of farnsworth's first catcher's, i think

i don't like this at all

1. if there was a fight, who would you rather have than him???

2. Molina is the best defensive catcher in the league

3. so what if he's hitting .220, he's hitting 9th, and it doesn't seem to be hurting us

4. Whose the 7th/8th inning guy now? I don't like ramirez or veras as much as farnsworth

i won't forgive the front office for a long time

i don't care whatchall say

"How is Pudge’s game-calling abilities? I know he is a good defensive catcher but what about his game-calling?"

He called the games for several young pitchers when they beat the New York Yankees in the World Series.

Pudge throws runners out at 31%. Above average.

Farnsworth's stock has never been higher and there is no reason whatsoever to expect him to continue this way. There isn't a single fan on this board that has trust in farnsworth in a key playoff situation. Great time to trade the dud, and to improve at catcher is a bonus. One of the better trades by Cashman in recent years. We are one starter away from a legitimate playoff push.

Cashman calls Joey[Girardi around the 6th or 7th inning today]" I don't know where this is going but don't use Farnsworth."

Pudge waived his NTC to play for the Yankees and wanted to come here.

Cashman also went on to sum up the risk: "We are robbing Peter to pay Paul." [ The ESPN article actually was misspelled as robbing Peter to PLAY Paul]

Talk about making a quick decision to pull off this trade. Way to go Cashman!!
