Washburn is correct, I said Millwood. I guess subconsciously I see them as the same pitcher. I don’t think Seattle’s front office knows what they’re doing. The season is cooked, and they could unload 14M in payroll. If they need another starter that bad we’ll give them Sidney.

I just think there are alot of veteran hitters on this club who do things their way, and don’t take instruction well. They don’t like to sacrifice, and can’t lay down a bunt. They don’t take two bases (God forbid, pull a hammy), and don’t charge the ball (Abreu).

This year more than any in recent memory this team has shown an alarming propensity to lay down when they get hit. With the talent they have there is no way this team should be continually shut down by good( not great) to mediocre pitchers. I understand the starting pitching hasn’t been great but if this team hit up to it’s potential you can’t tell me they wouldn’t be first in the division or very damn close to it. These Yankees have a glass jaw.

If protecting Gardner was the deal breaker for Millwood or Washburn that’s nuts to me. He’s much more Bubba Crosby than Kenny Lofton.

SJ— I’m with you on the in-game blogs, but I wouldn’t be so harsh. These forums are an ideal place to vent and during the game is when frustration is at its highest. I’m sure many posters (including me) have written things that would like to have back.

I hosted sports talk for years and there was a huge difference in the intelligence of the debate during the week as compared to post-game calls (football oriented).

My question is if you’re going for it, you have to get Millwood. Even if it costs you Gardner. By passing the deadline, and going against LA with Rasner & Ponson, I think you’re giving up with those two guys. You might as well pitch Kennedy, who at least has upside.

Forgetting about Pudge (who was fairly good and wants to play here), a far more important issue is what to think of this year.

Clearly, the Yankees will be set for 09, whether they get Texeira, CC, and or resign Moose/Pettitte to one year contracts. Abreu may come back as the DH, and I think Jason is going back to the Bay area (Giants?).

It would help to have some more experience under the belt for IPK and Hughes, and perhaps give Wang a few starts in September.

Read the game thread. Even while Melky was getting 3 hits, there were people who wanted him benched today for Christian.

Its why the game threads have become a blog version of the Gong Show. You would be hard pressed to find more stupid comments anywhere.

Its tough to determine whether they are trolls (Non-Yankee fans) or people who simply don’t understand the game.

Either way, its unreadable. Its great for Pete’s post count. Sadly, its the only purpose it serves at this point in the season.

The Angels are really good this year, and deep. We can’t beat them on an average year. They just do everything right, and this could very well be their time. The Yanks just are not deep enough in the rotation or the bench to think about winning the world series at this point. The bottom line is that the only shutdown starter the Yanks have is Joba. Pettitte and Mussina have been rocked bad at different times, and Ponson and Rasner are journeyman pitchers at best. They can make a good run at the wildcard, and division…but need to have an eye towards 09. By that I mean Kennedy should replace either Ponson or Rasner in the rotation. He’s healthy and pitching well in the minors. The plan was to go with the kids in the beginning, now’s not the time to throw that idea out the window based on the idea that somehow Rasner and Ponson aren’t going to get their collective asses handed to them by the Angels in the next few games or the rest of the season. Let’s be real.

SJ44….I could not agree with you more. The fans that would boo Pudge are complete idiots. Any POSTER that would bag on Pudge after being in NY for less than 24 hours gets that same tag. It is good to know that most players let that garbage go in one ear and out the other….but a nice welcome for him after all, huh ? (sarcasm at the end there….could ya tell ? ) ;-(
