keep arod, cano,mo,joba, wang, nady, jeter, damon, posada, get a new first baseman,a new catcher,a new center fielder.one ace and a solid number three guy is a must, posada to dh no way he should be allowed to catch at his age.if pettitte and abraeu will take less money then bring them back if not bye bye,no way they are worth close to 16 million a year, maybe 9-12 .if abraeu comes back maybe nady at first base or in right if abraeu doesn't come back.trade matsui.sign sabathia and weeks so the staff will look like sabathia,wang,weeks,pettitte/hughes/joba/kennedy/brackman/???? payroll should be lowered and if i were the gm i would build a nasty pitching staff 1-5 all of the just like sabathia, becket, wang, peavey and maybe just maybe reserve the 5th spot for hughes.the yankees have a former allstar at every position and terrible pitching for the last several years, how the hell did this happen????????????,forget pettitte, giambi, abraeu at 16-22 million and all these overpayed bums.with a 214 million dollar payroll the yankees can get the swb AAA team to play in the majors and go out and get 5 aces at 20 million a pitcher and win it all.get great pitching 1-5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

G., you're right about a lot of the veterans having to go but I don't necessarily buy the amateur psychoanalysis on Jeter or ARod. They want to win as bad as anyone but it's not a matter of intensity. The Yankees' problem is that the parts don't fit into a complete team. We have a lot of the same type of player...and very few are willing to deviate from "what they do" to help the Yankees win a game. Check out the Angels. Sciosia has a sub-par offensive team getting the most out of the few opportunities they produce. They actually try to play coherent offensive innings where runners get on, are moved around the bases, and are driven in...one way or the other. Most of the Yankees' lineup thinks "3 run homer" even when the bases are empty. The ego they have is apparent even with Jeter: do you think Sciosia cares if you "put a good swing" on the ball as long as you make some contact and move the play forward? If it happens that you hit it out, even better, but contact is the point. Younger hitters can be molded, veterans are too set in their ways, too wrapped up in their personal stats, too concerned with their impending free agency and bigger bucks to think "team first." And, by the way, Sciosia doesn't "convince" his players to play his way. He selects the players who do and gets rid of the players who don't. Why waste time and breath on someone who'll never get it? The Yankees ought to try that instead of continuing to import players who are clueless despite possessing great individual skills.

Thank god stuarts taking all the attention away from my crappy and misspelled sentences. I could see myself getting banned for that.

Spelling mistakes are nothing.
Not making any sense at all, that would be a problem.

Drive,

I agree with you mostly on Cashman. I still think the job he did in the off season was awful this year, but when the team responded and started to hit, he made the deals he had to make to strengthen this current club.

What's shocking is the guys in the locker room all wilted again.

This is a team chemistry/composition problem. I think the problems start with Arod and Jeter. There's nothing we can do to fix it, so Cashman has to build a club that will not rely on these two players in the future.

I feel like they exist in their own bubble. They're like Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick in The Producers. Their names go above the title, but the rest of the cast is what's going to make the show click.

Damon, Abreu, Melky, Giambi, have to leave to start. Cashman needs to come up with a leadoff hitter, a CF, a solid 1b and probably a LF since Nady will slot over to right.

I don't know how he's going to do it, but if he brings back this current crop of guys, this team will fail again.

The team needs new blood. Younger blood. Hungrier blood. It needs a complete makeover as there is clearly some quit/dog in this club.

Just watching them get baffled by young pitching that they haven't faced before tells me they are lazy. They like hitting against the guys the know, but make them do a little work and check out some scouting and they seem to fall apart.

I think a lot of them are so well paid they feel like they can just walk on the field and winning will happen. I believe Jeter buys into this even though he loves telling reporters the opposite. Jeter also seems to have adopted an "it's them failing, not me" attitude in the post game. He doesn't seem like he's hard on himself at all.

All I know is we need a new core of players here. Players with no ties to Jeter and Arod. I know as long as Jeter is here the other guys will feel they have to defer to him, but I'd love to see us get a couple of guys who don't defer to him and have some swagger out there.

The links to the dynasty team, outside of Mo, is what hurts this team. I think a lot of these guys think because they play with Jeter, then they were part of it.

The difference is this team doesn't believe it's that much better than the other team. They don't believe "we play today, we win today".

I'm tired of seeing our players be so damn respectful of the competition.

Hopefully, in the future we'll have some gamers out there that want to beat the other sides brains in.

Right now, Jeter would much rather hug his opponent and give him a high five as he crosses 2b on a game winning home run.

I think the worst remnant of the late Torre era is this whole feeling that the Yankees are "the class of baseball and will conduct themselves accordingly". This holier than thou attitude doesn't win championships. It's not what won championships in the first place.

But when Torre got book offers and the celebrity went to his head, this team started to change.

It's just funny that when Torre is losing in his first season in LA, he welcomes the anti-Torre player in Manny into his clubhouse.

"“Find me that quote where CMW is demanding any number of dollars?”

Wouldn’t call it demanding, but a small stink was made about money when Cano got the long term deal and he didn’t. Wasn’t a rant or anything, but CMW definitely brought it up in conversation."

Fredo -

I'm sorry - did you find a quote from CMW?
