Phil can come in and be successful this year, but I'd rather he stay at AAA if possible. He was incredibly unlucky in his 6 starts this year. He was spotting his heater really well, but was getting squeezed by umps and guys were flaring little bloops and seeing eye grounders. His BABIP was .395!!! That's ridiculously unlucky, especially considering the fact that few of the balls were hard hit.

His k/9 was very low for him (mid-5's) and he was only throwing 2 pitches, so I theorize that he needs to develop the changeup in a nice, low pressure environment like AAA where he can feel free to make mistakes and experiment with pitches he doesn't have confidence in, yet. I think that a major league return would set back his development because he won't be able to work on his changeup at all. With the change adding to his arsenal, he should be able to fool hitters more, miss bats and get the k/9 up. Keep him down.

The point being, we sent them several prospects for 2 players that were not rentals. Had they been rentals, we would have sent even less.

"Which decent prospect did Cashman give up for Marte/NAdy?

Maybe we have different definitions for the term "decent." You think they were all lousy? Karstens nearly threw a perfect game and is a serviceable pitcher (ie. decent). Tabata, if someone can help him grow up and he gains some desire to actually play hard, can be FAR more than decent.

They were all "decent" prospects, which is to say "ok," not great or even good.

"And by the way, not everybody is a Mariano Rivera. A Mariano Rivera is a once in a lifetime pitcher. Us Yankee fans have been spoiled, to say the least, having a closer like him shut down our ballgames. New York is in for a rude awakening when that man retires."

Rarely have more truer words been spoken.

Oh, and one more thing...Phil Franchise, PHIL FRANCHISE, phil franchise, PHILLY FRANCHISE.

sorry, but my inner child just had to express himself.

"Chris, I understand that leg injuries can change a pitcher but shoulder and elbow injuries can prevent them from ever being the same or coming back again. Leg injuries just take a fix in mechanics but rarely take a career away."

Agreed, was just adding to what you said, not contending it...
