Ray, that poster the other night was posting as Don Vito A Ballamo. I figured it wasn't him. I usually figure people know how to spell the user names they choose consistently for the most part, lol.

CB, I think it would help Kennedy tremendously to learn the cutter. Rivera is a great teacher. He reminds me a lot of Sparky Lyle in that respect. It was Lyle’s remarks to Al Rosen and Billy Martin that kept Guidry from being traded for a non-descript minor leaguer back in the spring of ‘77. He was in the bullpen with Guidry and Guidry asked about the throwing a slider. Lyle told him how he threw it, showed him the basic grip and told Guidry to work with that, but, change it to whatever felt best. Lyle said it took Guidry about 10 minutes to figure it out…this was during a game. He called the dugout and told Martin to bring Guidry into the game…the kid had something to show Martin. Guidry, who had gotten beat around in ST struck out the side on 10 pitches…8 of them sliders. Kennedy is a smart kid and has 3 great instructors in Mussina, Pettitte and Professor Rivera. It should also be a killer pitch for Bruney, too.

Rivera helped Veras. You have a lot of talent there. I hope Kennedy takes more time to soak it in. Realize that these guys know what there are talking about. And ask questions. A rookie has to be open to suggestions. Maybe Kennedy learned that just being good in the minors doesn't always translate into the majors and will become the student that learns from the masters. I hope you are right Greenb.

GB7 - cool guidry story.

mel - yeah, i never expected to get rich playing music. if i can get by, that's pretty satisfying to me. i moved south of bellingham, back to portland where i grew up. but, the NW is still the NW. i'm certainly less involved in this year's team than i was last year, which probably explains being more "calm" or rational. it's tough for me to pull for a team that employs two of the people i dislike most in baseball in arod and girardi, but we're all just cheering for the laundry, as somebody once said. i was really excited about hughes, joba and, to a far lesser extent, kennedy, going in to the season, so it's been a bummer in that regard.

Daaaa Raaaays Loooosssseee! Only 6 back in the loss column. If the Rays had beaten Hernandez with one run, that would not have bode well for the rest of the east. Thank goodness the Rays are on a 10 game roadie. Everytime you looked they were playing in that natatorium.
