The Yankees placed Joba Chamberlain on the DL with rotator cuff tendinitis. His return is uncertain.

Meanwhile, Sidney Ponson returned to Texas and beat the Rangers in a game the Yankees had to have.

————-

farvejerseygreenbacksm.jpgMeanwhile it appears Richard Seymour, Tedy Bruschi, Mike Vrabel and Adalius Thomas have a new target for this season.

The last time old man Favre played the Pats he was 5 for 15 for 73 yards and was knocked out of the game. Welcome to New York, Brett. See you on the ground Sept. 14.

    good for the Jets.

  2. stuart

Peter hopefully Joba will respond well and be back in a few weeks. no surgery is the key.

hughes big outing today, 65 pitches.

    any news on Irod availability…

  3. Matt

Don’t get so excited, Pete. Don’t you remember the Pats cheated?? It’s funny how they were undefeated and than all of that stuff came out and they played horrible in the Super Bowl.

J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS to win the AFC East.

Pete: Great post. Made me laugh & take my mind off Joba.

  6. Brandon

Ughhh on my day off too… I could care less about Farve now I have to hear sports radio go stupid today.

  7. GreenBeret7A

Well, I haven’t been a football fan since Walter Payton retired, but, with luck, Farve shreds the NE Pasties this season. Antything bad that happens to NE sports teams is well deserved and a long time coming. If the Pasties start losing, most of their fan base will disappear…much like it did during the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s.

Sorry Pete. After the Patriots’ Superbowl loss, your threats against NY teams are hollow….;-)

  9. andrew33

last time i saw tedy bruschi he was hugging that other old guy on the sidelies — then the giants rammed the go ahead score down their throats — hey pete hows the “path to perfection … the story of the 2007 pats” dvd working out

on a side note the pats and jets have won the same # of sb’s the past 3 years … nice dynasty

funny, I listened to the FAN last night and fans are already expecting FAVRE to lead them to no less than not the playoffs but the AFC Championship Game.

First, did the Jets happen to watch Favre in ‘05 and ‘06? He was REALLY BAD! Some speculated that Favre did nothing in the offseason and wasn’t sharp because of it. Last year, the “evil” Packers front office sent a physical trainer to work out with Favre 6 days a week. The result, Chief Cheesehead has his best year in five years.

Now do you think that Broadway Brett was working hard while pondering retirement?

Also, the AFC is tough and the presence of #4 doesn’t mean squat for the Jets. You have N.E., Ind, S.D, and JAX that are better than NYJ even with Favre. PIT, CLE, and TEN are on the same level. That is a total of 7 teams that are on the Jets level and the Bills have a ridiculously easy sked.

It is nice to see Jets fans having a day of “total conciusness” but let’s hold off on planning the parade.

I also think it is funny that ESPN and their non stop Favre coverage were once again beaten to the punch by Jay Glazer of FOX SPORTS

  12. Mike

Pete, Favre + Cameras = 5 SB’s. If not more.

  13. LathamJoe

Favre should’ve retired when he claimed he would. He has put both the Packers – as well as the Jets – in bad situations.

Brett will be closer to the 05 – 06 Favre (”Has Been”) than his lucky 2007 Season!

  14. Fredo Corleone

Seems obvious to me that nobody else wanted to pony up for Favre. Two things are true. He wanted to stay in the NFC and he wanted a chance to win. In this deal, he has neither, but it appears it’s the only place he could land.

The Jets chances at a Super Bowl are ZERO. Making the playoffs will be difficult. They remain clearly inferior to New England, Indy, San Diego and Jacksonville. As the AFC North must send a team to the playoffs, that leaves one spot for the Jets to compete for. I think they have a reasonably decent chance if getting that 6th spot, but it won’t be easy and the postseason won’t last for more than a week.

  15. Paul

“go to hell, Pats fan scum.”

I guess we have ramped up our zealousness. whew!

  16. Phil

Ironic that a Pats fan calls Favre old, and mentions Bruschi and Vrabel as guys who are gonna target him. Eli says, “Hello!”

  17. Mike

    18-1 Pete!

You watch, the Jets are actually going to do something this year, your Pats won’t expect it but remember 2006? We’re coming again buddy, watch out.

  18. Axel

    Pete,
Can we get some stats (wins, losses, ERA, Ball/Strikes ratio) with Molina behind the plate compared to all of our other catchers? It appeared that last night’s game (aka Ponson’s pitching ability) turned around when Pudge got knocked out the game and replaced with Molina. Molina is the best receiver on the team and he has proven to be able to handle our “sensitive” pitching staff. I don’t know what it is about Pudge but pitchers just don’t seem to like to throw to him.

  19. CM

That group of losers couldn’t knock Eli down or keep the Giants out of the end zone with 2+ minutes left to play in the Super Bowl (actually they’ve never been able to keep a team from scoring in a 4th quarter of a Super Bowl). I don’t see how they’re going to get past that great Jets line to get to a mobile quarterback like Favre. I’m not even a Jets fan. Your cream puff division (and schedule) just got tougher.

Cheese and rice! Only a Pats fan could make me stick up for the Jets.

  20. Broadway Joe Namath

” I’ll get a deep kiss from Suzy Kolber before the Jets win a Super Bowl with Favre at QB “.

  21. CM

Paul – ““go to hell, Pats fan scum.”

I guess we have ramped up our zealousness. whew!”

No, it’s been scientifically proven that all fans of Boston area teams over the last few years have either degenerated completely into scum, or, at least, exhibit all the characteristics of scum when talking about or watching their team.

  22. CM

This is a great thread, considering that we’re talking about Brett Favre versus the Pats defense. Two things the Giants made look silly on their way to a championship.

    Favre to Webster!

Plaxico WIDE open in the end zone!

  23. yankee2123

The Jets had to make this move. Pennington is done, and has been done for some time. The Jets can at least be in the mix for a wildcard this season, and even if the team stinks, at least there’s Farve to watch. With that said they’ll never make the Superbowl.

  24. Jeff

Mike “King of the leg whip” Vrabel? The only bigger scumbug in football in his SS.

  25. The Panoramic Vista Roof in Jeter's Edge

    Bret Favre is a jerkoff.

  26. The Panoramic Vista Roof in Jeter's Edge

We will be hearing Phil Simms and the crew saying this alot on CBS this fall/winter…”Favre picked off….again”

  27. hmmm

“It appeared that last night’s game (aka Ponson’s pitching ability) turned around when Pudge got knocked out the game and replaced with Molina. Molina is the best receiver on the team and he has proven to be able to handle our “sensitive” pitching staff. this argument would only make sense if Pudge didn’t catch Ponson’s start against the Angels.

but he did. so your argument doesn’t really hold any water.

also, some blamed Pudge for Pettitte’s bad start against the Angels. but Molina caught his poor start in Texas.

  28. Chrissy

    18-1. :)

  29. dont retire 21

18 wins and 1 GIANT loss.

i was telling my dad the other day(and im a huge jets fan so) that i had a dream that Farve was going to the Jets. He was like yea, sure, he won’t come to NY! And what do you kno, he’s in NY! Also, in that dream, I saw the Jets going all the way to win the SB!

  31. Don Pratt

This is going to be worse than when Michael Jordan played for the Wizards but slightly better than when he played baseball.

  32. Kill-Schill(ing)

God gave Belicheat the rainbow sign no more water, THE FAVRE NEXT TIME.

  33. saucY

nice Farve gets to stay in green.

Pats/Jets matchups should be better now. not sure how a Pats fan can be happy about this really though. it’s most likely denial.

  34. saucY

so is Ponson really a jerk like everyone made him out to be? or is that just suppressed since he’s on a decent team now? he seems to get along well with his teamates…

i watched his post-game interview (because we won!)and he seemed like a good dude. not overly cocky. he seemed straight forward and honest.

  35. Rob C

Stick to commenting on the Yankees, Pete, thank you very much.

Please, stop talking about those cheaters and 18-1 record. They’re from boston, for boston sux supporters, choose your way…

  37. Tony

Peter, We know you are a pats fan, But I would venture to say that since this is a Yankees blog 99.99% of us hate the patsies and are probably jets and or giants fans. I will even go so far as to say there are probably more cowboys fans that read this blog than patriot fans. So please stop offending us or we may have to say things like in the super bowl brady spent more time on his back than a two dollar whore. It might make a fun poll though on the side of the blog especially with football season around the corner, “who is your favorite football team?”

  38. JT

I’m a Jets fan and I’m sorry to say we have one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. Favre won’t be able to do much while lying on the ground. He’ll probably be injured before the season starts.

  39. bdog375

Hey nice Pats plug. How about when Favre played the Pats in Super Bowl 31? Hmmm, no soup for the Pats then.

    J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS.

  40. Pepitone

The Patriots DB’s will be busy padding their stats with ints when ole’ sling em’ and pick em’ Brett comes calling.

“Gunslinger” Favre comes to NY. ESPN must be wetting their britches over this.

  41. Steve

Too bad brady will be watching that game from the hospital after Gholston flattens him.

  42. Igawa's buck teeth (Its all about 09!)

The Jets will still suck. LETS GO G-MEN!!! SUPER BOWL CHAMPS!!

  43. eric

Well, Pete, I can understand your excitement. If you can’t beat the only good NY football team, get excited about the potential of beating the other one.
