I gotta go with Big V on this one. Barry has an interesting potential lineup but there are a few problems

1. Giambi and Mussina are having great years, but don't discount the fact that they're in contract years. Money is always a motivator. Also those two aren't spring chickens. Do you really want to re-sign a 38 year old hitter and a 40 year old pitcher??

2. IMO there are better options in the farm system than resigning Betemit. I'd rather give a shot to Justin Christian or Brett Gardner.

3. There's a reason why Boston got rid of Manny. His attitude apparently was so bad, it outweighed the risk of losing his offense, particularly in October. That's saying something. He's not a youngster either, turning 37 next year. $20M on an aging bad ass may not be worth it.

4. Austin Jackson is an amazing player, but we shouldn't rush him through the system. Let him grow into a complete player. Ian Kennedy & Phil Hughes flew through the farm system and we saw how well that worked.

5. If CC loses a couple of pounds and pitches more consistently then I'm all for it. Pettitte is done as a starter.

"My feeling is that it started with the trade for ARod. Here was a trade that sent the team into a psychological malaise from which they have never recovered. I believe it revolves around the astronomical difference in his salary in regards to every other player on the team."

Alex Rodriguez Third Base $28,000,000
Jason Giambi Designated Hitter $23,428,571
Derek Jeter Shortstop $21,600,000
Bobby Abreu Outfielder $16,000,000
Andy Pettitte Pitcher $16,000,000
Mariano Rivera Pitcher $15,000,000
Jorge Posada Catcher $13,100,000
Johnny Damon Outfielder $13,000,000
Hideki Matsui Outfielder $13,000,000
Mike Mussina Pitcher $11,071,029
Carl Pavano Pitcher $11,000,000

Disparity must mean something other than what I always thought it did. Especially considering that for every year except for this year, Texas was paying a sizeable chunk of his salary.

I'm talking about blowing up this team at the end of the year.
Its too late after the trade deadline to do anything really.

Hopefully they don't trade for WashOut on the M's although he'll be a perfect addition to the underperformers in that sense.
