A-Rod opens home to wayward prospect

John Fay, who covers the Reds for the Cincinnati Enquirer, has an interesting item on his blog regarding first-round draft pick Yonder Alonso.

The 1B, who played at the University of Miami, is buddies with A-Rod. Alex has apparently told the kid that he can stay with him in New York and play independent league ball. Why not? Alex has plenty of room at his place now.

Alonso would then go back into the 2009 draft.

This doesn’t sound illegal. But I can’t imagine the Reds would be happy a player from another team would provide the means for a player to refuse their offer.

Just saw that the Class A Tampa game was postponed so no rehab game for Matsui tonight I guess.

  2. mel

Alex is not the only person he could go to. Alonso could go to his mommy.

How about the Reds pony up?

  3. The 2008 World Champion Tampa Bay Rays

    Here’s laughing at you Yanks-Yanks!

  4. Garrett

LOL at that guy thinking the Rays will win it all

  5. Bronx Jeers

Arod = The baseball version of Michael Jackson.

I still reeling about that supposed Jeter sighting in Texas. The glamorous life. What a joke of a team leader. It’s no wonder this team plays like they don’t care.

  6. yankee2123

Where were the Rays fans when they were horrible for ten years? That bandwagon got full in a hurry.

Mad Dog leaves the FAN, Francessa signs long term deal.

They were insufferable at times, but I’ll miss them together.

  8. pat

Alonso’s agent also said he might go back to Miami and finish out his college career. Might the Reds be unhappy with Donna Shalala too?

  9. jennifer- I got your back Girardi

Call up Starbucks and ask if Jeter was there. ;)

  10. mel

    1st and 3rd, zero outs=zero runs?

I thought the Yankees had an off day.

  11. AZ four

kennedy – scoreless first inning in scranton.

  12. mel

    AZ four,

Thanks for the updates. I’m done with the Kennedy jokes. It’s not even funny anymore. He needs two more years in the minors and I’m wishing the best for him.

Daisuke Houdini walks 2 to load the bases, but no worries. He’ll escape in a death-defying way.

  13. Whitey Fraud

Well, it’s a good opportunity to look over Yonder.

    (Sorry.)

  14. jennifer- I got your back Girardi

I think Wfan needs to update their site. Still shows ‘mad dog’ doing shows.

  15. 27 this year

Maybe somehow, A-Rod could convince him to somehow do what Brett Marshall did and get himself on teh Yanks. That would work well for us. He is a 1B, fills a need and is a high pick. I don’t know. That would be illegal.

  16. trisha - I am a Sidney supporter and also put my money on Arod starting to hit again.

    Rays and Oakland in extras.

    At Oakland.

  17. 27 this year

By the way about Giese, who wants to predict the next pitcher to go down with what the Yanks call rotator cuff tendinitis. Joba then Giese. Maybe it will be like hamstrings at the beginning of last year.

  18. jennifer- I got your back Girardi

As Joe G said, results don’t matter for Ian. They want to see him working on his other pitches. No one id denying that he does well at AAA.

  19. 27 this year

thats good Trisha, the Rays cant have a walkoff.

  20. trisha - I am a Sidney supporter and also put my money on Arod starting to hit again.

Really, I consider any information about Kennedy boring at this point. What he does at Scranton seems to continue to have little relevance on what he does away from Scranton.

We have much bigger problems and fish to fry.

  21. JoeT 28 in 09!! MOOSE FOR HOF, MO FOR CY YOUNG YANKS FOR PLAYOFFS!!

I have a room available in Orlando for the kid…. I don’t think I can provide for him like A-Rod can…. but i’ll still rent him the room lol

  22. trisha - I am a Sidney supporter and also put my money on Arod starting to hit again.

True dat, 27. I’ll keep you all posted.

  23. trisha - I am a Sidney supporter and also put my money on Arod starting to hit again.

And son of a ……, no sooner do you mention a homer and they get one.

This is a tragic tragic season for us Yankee fans!

    :(

  24. trisha - I am a Sidney supporter and also put my money on Arod starting to hit again.

I can’t watch this. The only place there isn’t direct pain is at the Olympics…

  25. JoeT 28 in 09!! MOOSE FOR HOF, MO FOR CY YOUNG YANKS FOR PLAYOFFS!!

We’re not going to win the division anyway…. I’d rather the Rays win and they get the division and we come back and pass Boston for the WC

  26. Scott

If the Yanks don’t sweep KC, then bring up some youngsters. April is not as far away as people may think. That is, of course, as long as Boston doesn’t go deep in the playoffs. Bye Melky. Welcome X-man.

  27. trisha - I am a Sidney supporter and also put my money on Arod starting to hit again.

    Joe -

    ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!!

Okay, Rays up 7-5, bottom if the inning, Oakland runners on 1st and 3rd, nobody out

  28. trisha - I am a Sidney supporter and also put my money on Arod starting to hit again.

And uh, five minutes ago it was 0-0 Sux game, now it’s 7-0 Sux…

No wonder Jeter hasn’t been playing so well lately. Hes’ been bitten by the love bug with actress Minka Kelly. I guess his ankle isn’t that bad after all. I’ve said it before Jeter hasn’t been the same Jeter since he’s fallen for this girl. She’s at all the Yankee games, all star games and travels with him on the road. He’s in Austin Texas today.

Derek Jeter Spotted at Austin Starbucks

    Thursday, August 14, 2008, 06:08 PM

New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter was spotted in Austin today, in the company of Minka Kelly, who is in “Friday Night Lights.”

The pair, who are rumored to be dating, were at the Starbucks on South Congress, sitting quietly at the bar that overlooks the street.

Have you seen them elsewhere around town? Let us know.

  30. trisha - I am a Sidney supporter and also put my money on Arod starting to hit again.

    Rays won 7-6.

By the way, it’s no wonder that Jeter has been extremely erratic. Minka’s dos and don’ts have to be driving him nuts…

The career is being the most important thing in her life: “A man has to be passionate about something. He has to be focused and genuine. He has to have drive. I really believe that our careers are our first loves. And I think a career should be as important for him as it is for me. And that we should be able to understand that we come second.”

On a guy needing to know more about the radiator than she does: “A man has to be good with his hands. He can’t be a person who needs to hire someone to do handiwork. I can change the oil in my car. If you can’t change your oil, we have a problem.”

On needing an imperfect guy: “A man should love his family, but I don’t do well with guys who come from perfect families. He has to be a little complicated and broken. I can’t relate to the perfectly home-bred boy. I want someone who has had pain in his life and learned from it.”

  31. dennis

thanks trisha, for sharing that with us.

  32. Bronx Jeers

    “He has to have drive.”

Well Captain Cupid is perfect for her because not only is he “Driven” from Avon, but he’s also got an “EDGE”

Hey Jeter, You need to get your pipes cleaned after a long road trip that’s perfectly understandable. But either fly your girl to NY or pick up the phone and have a pro come over. Come on dude it;snot like you’re not playing your home games in Kansas.

  33. CT

Arod isn’t the only one with enough room in his home..

  34. bond

Minka’s not the only one. He’s sucking because he can’t keep up with his celebrity girlfriends. This was one in the NY Daily

NY Daily News Friday, July 25th 2008, 4:00 AM

Minka Kelly may not be the only actress in Derek Jeter’s dugout. The Yankee captain has been seeing a bit of hot blond Rachel Lanzillotto. The 26-year-old beauty has appeared on “Law & Order,” “The Bachelor” and in “Spider-Man.” She also teaches and has a stake in Islero, the E. 50th restaurant where she had dinner with Jeter recently. A spy who spotted them there says the shortstop didn’t appreciate one guy trying to hit on Lanzillotto: “Jeter walked over, gave him a nasty look and pulled her away.”

  35. PBL

I don’t think Arod is making an offer to just any kid. If I remember correctly, I read an article last winter about how Arod took Alonso under his wing, and Alonso had been training with Arod for an offseason or two while Arod was back in Miami. In that light, I think Arod’s offer makes a lot more sense.

  36. jk

A-Rod is shopping for new digs.

  37. Rubin

Maybe Alex is doing this so the Yankees have a chance at getting him? If we dont sign Cole, which I would be happy if we dont(his delivery is the recipe for a devastating injury), then we get another 1st rder. Having 2 1st rd picks gives us more of a chance to get him, and Im sure Alex knows it.

  38. YankeesLuv

I wouldn’t mind being roommates with Arod. :)

  39. Flip

Two years ago I called the fan and asked “what do you find when you look up A-Rod in the dictionary… Nothing, he’s meaningless”. Maybe if the Yankee fans boo him enough he will ask for a trade.
