Please get rid of Girardi. I understand the players have to take the majority of the responsibility for what has gone on this year, but the unconventional strategic decisions that backfire, lack of fire, and mental lapses and miscues make me absolutely sick to watch this team anymore.

“My god, are you really that stupid?”

When you start Justin Christian over Johhny Damon and Richie Sexon over Giambi; when you develop fetishes for Melky Cabrera and Wilson Betemit; when you persist in sitting your best hitters for inferior platoon players, when the hitters you sit have commensurate stats against both lefties and rightie (like Giambi and Damon), than you court second-guesses.

Worse, when you as manager won’t deign to justify those decisions, when you snap at reporters who ask them than you act a fool, notwithstanding your native intelligence and you deserve to be portrayed as one by the people who cover you.

My God, Dave, are you really that stupid?

Brian C, Bleich wasn't impressive when you watched him pitch? Since I'm assuming you didn't watch him pitch before the Yankees drafted him, all you saw was the CWS. Did you miss the part where shut down the best offense in college baseball (Florida State). Not impressive? His fastball reached the mid 90s. His curveball looked like a plus pitch.

Some of you guys need to take a chill pill. This draft hasn't been a disaster yet. If anything, it takes nearly a half dozen years to even begin to evaluate an MLB draft. Losing Cole sucks, but there was no guarantee that he'd be anything more than minor league fodder.

So let's wait and see before declaring that the sky has fallen.

"You alienate the reporters who cover you because you act like you’re smarter than they are. Guess what happens when you fail? They take every opportunity to gloat."

He is smarter than the reporters. You're actually comparing the baseball intellect of a career mlb player/manager with a guy that went to journalism school?

More than talent (CC, Texiera) the yankees need to make sure anyone they acquire is a quality leader in the room (e.g. Cone, Key, O'neill types). It is apparent they lack leadership in the room at the player level.

randy:

There's the macro and micro view.

On the macro level, there was much change in the organization last year and I'm not sure how much of it was "Plan A" type outcomes. They as an organization should slow down and take stock of where they are and where they want to be and how they will get there before they hit the gas pedal again.

On the micro, or individual level, Cashman is a valuable player in the organization given his institutional memory and his role in the design of where they are right now. But he, like Torre, has his own professional priorities and he is still very young. Would he accept a kick upstairs or view it as a no confidence vote? Depends on how it was sold, I guess. But he's no dope and he'd have plenty of opportunities if he decided to leave or was not renewed. But remember, replacing him at GM is tantamount to starting all over again.

Knowing they had Girardi or Mattingly in the wings made the Torre play easier for the Steinbrenners. Do they Yankees currently have the vision and patience - and perfect candidate - to make a change at GM work or has all this change bought Cash a few more years?

"How many pitchers that have injuries have the Yankees drafted the last 2 to 3 years?"
"Worst draft ever. I don’t see ONE impact player except maybe Marshall."
"Cashman is drafting injured pitchers in hopes of getting it out of the way, isn’t it obvious…he’s a genius."
--------------------------------------------------------
You guys are none to bright. We are LUCKY if we have a pick in the mid twenties. How many 'impact' players make it that far? All the known studs and even the maybe studs are gone by then. Our only chance of getting an 'impact' player is to get players that others avoid for certain reasons.
1) The may be talented, but are injured. When this is the case, teams will less money will skip this guys. Know why Joba wasn't picked earlier? BECAUSE HE WAS AN INJURY RISK!
Basically, Cashman TAKES A CHANCE on these high risk, high reward players.... because we can afford to gamble and get 4 of these guys if ONLY ONE turns out to be a Joba.
2) Guys that are skipped because it is felt they will ask for too much $$$ to sign.

Over the last 12 years, we have basically gotten the bottom of the barrel picks. It's not easy to get talent when you have crappy picks for over a decade. If you guys would like to finish in the bottom 1/3rd of the standings for 5 years, we might get some talent from the draft.

Otherwise, we need to use our money as leverage. This means more International scouting and talented, but high risk players in the draft. Get it?

And YES, Cashman's stategy is Genius. Joba might be a top 5 MLB pitcher. We got him with a forty something pick. Pretty amazing if you ask me.

black Yankee-
"Best players can carry teams during rough times."

SJ's team post above is spot on. It's about team.

One player can't carry a team. They might be able to do amazing things for a game or a few days but after that the rest of the team needs to kick in too. That hasn't happened this year with the Yankees. Team failure.

Who has the player been for Tampa and the Red Sox this year that have carried the team? I can't think of 1 who has been amazing but rather many that have been good.

On the flip side, Josh Hamilton has had a monster year for the Rangers. Are they going to win anything this year?
