Melissa – now that made me cry. You are absolutely right, that’s what it’s all about. Sad that sportsmanship usually comes in international events but not at home!!!

Meanwhile, Bela Kyroli (sp?) was ballistic about the scoring in the women’s gymnastics scoring. There definitely has seemed to be an obvious bias toward the Chinese women.

I know. That is the way it should be. In the Little League game, the pitcher for S. Arabia was crying so they put him in third base and the runner on third from Venezuela was telling him that it was ok and was trying to comfort him. That was just a nice moment. That is what it is all about.

Melissa I’ve been watching the Olympics tonight and there is something that I really love about watching different country’s athletes congratulate each other after an event, even before any scores are announced – in gymnastics they do that especially.

Good for them. That’s the way it should be done.

Melissa – any little league coach who doesn’t have the decency and civility to tell her or his team that the most important thing is that they do their best and it’s okay to come in second (or lower) because there will be days you win and days you lose, and everyone makes mistakes sometimes, should burn in hell.

I understand your point, Drive – I just had no problems with Phil being in the rotation this year. I will say that the Yankees rushed him to the big leagues in 2007 because of the injuries to the rotation, and that was stupid. Still, he showed he could pitch up here.

At this point, I’m not even sure he should come back to NY. Let him spend the rest of his season at AAA; I don’t want Phil to lose his confidence – I agree with you on that. I really think the Yankees have tinkered way too much with Phil. First, his mechanics, now a cutter. It seems to me the Yanks are trying to make him into a new pitcher. What was wrong with the old one that they drafted? I have to admit that I’m very concerned about how the Yankees have treated Phil and can only hope that they don’t ruin him.

Nick, Washington Sq is getting completely ripped up and redone! I love it there too it’s about 15 mins walk from where I live. We love stopping at Mamouns to get falafel takeout to go eat at the park. They’ve been having construction there for what seems like almost a year now, I hope they don’t make the new park too fancy or gimmicky, I kind of like it the way it was.

Jennifer, funny thing was I’m so used to seeing Alex on TV everyday that at first it didn’t even register! I had to remind myself I wasn’t at home watching YES! My husband and I were walking around the neighborhood doing unglamorous errands like picking up RX at Eckards it’s completely out of context that we would see ARod!

I’m not saying that Hughes may not eventually become a major league starter.

In ’07 he was 5 -3, 4.46 ERA with a decent ok 1.30 WHIP. Off of that he was handed a position in the rotation on a silver platter that he didnt deserve, especially coming off of a horid Spring.

I’m in no hurry to see either him or Ian Kennedy until they prove themselves. Phil’s only 22. The Yanks aren’t doing anyone justice if they mess with his confidence at this point.
