In my opinion, it’s worth considering that Pavano’s injury history, at least at the start, was Joe Torre’s fault.

Everyone’s said it all.

What can we do? The American Idle will pitch—what an end to a horrible season. Let’s hope the Yankees can trade him for anything else.

Now that we know that the Yankees have a sub-par farm system, what can be done to invigorate it? Cashman has been trying to collect pitching prospects, OK—is now the time to start recruiting everyday hitting prospects????

It’s not like a healthy Carl Pavano is nothing more than Kei Igawa … he’s been persona non grata for so long we almost forget that when he was healthy, he was very good pitcher … if he wasnt, he never would have received the contract he did … and … had several other teams besides the Yankees bidding for him when he was FA.

I would venture to guess that Pavano realizes that this lastest chapter might be his last, best, chance to salvage his career at this point.

If he goes out and pitches well … something similar to the way that Sidney Ponson has done for us, then not only will he have helped the Yankees down the stretch, he will help leverage his own career beyond this year … because as of right now, he can only realistically expect to get a minor league contract from another team for 2009. But if he pitches well over the next 6 weeks and dare I say, the playoffs if the Yankees by some miracle make it to October, then lord knows what he might command AND GET as a FA this year.

And if he sucks or gets hurt … then it will be the final straw for all of us … and move on to C.C. Sabathia
