Yankees will miss Beckett

Peter Abraham
August

This from the AP:

Red Sox right-hander Josh Beckett won’t be facing the New York Yankees on Tuesday after skipping a bullpen session Saturday because of continued numbness and tingling in his pitching arm.

Manager Terry Francona said Beckett has “inflammation” in his elbow and likely won’t start again until next Friday, when the Red Sox return home to open a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox.

Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield, out since Aug. 7 with tightness behind his right shoulder, threw in the bullpen Saturday and will come off the disabled list to start Tuesday when the Red Sox begin their final regular-season series at Yankee Stadium. Wakefield is 7-8 with a 3.67 ERA in 23 starts.

Could it be feeding time for the Yankee lineup?

  2. Sports Update

Red Sox getting clobbered today 11 – 0. It makes tonight’s game critical for the Yankees to gain ground. Ransom has two at bats and two home runs. It’s time for Girardi to recognize that batting A-Rod and Giambi back to back with their RISP averages makes no sense with Abreu, Damon and Jeter hitting well. Why not slot in Ransom for a start at first? Shelley Duncan gave them a shot in the arm last year. Time to deviate from the script.

Maybe the elbow pain is why he got rocked by the Jays. No, wait, this is Josh Beckett we’re talking about… ;-)

I like facing Tim Wakefield. We can be pretty daring on the basepaths.

And that is why winning games is so important. This isn’t over.

    Good news: we miss Beckett.

Bad news: we miss Dice-BB, and that means we draw Lester.

I would have salivated at a possible SWEEP if we got Matsuzaka, Wakefield and Byrd from Boston’s rotation against Pettite and Ponson with Moose playing anchor.

    Oh well.

I’ll be more than happy with 2 out of 3.

Beckett’s injury is not from sleeping on his arm. That was 2 weeks ago. When Joba went on the DL, the Yanks started to tank. The Red Sox are trying to avoid the same.
