Can we bury GIDPlay-Rod under the new stadium to bring it luck? Nobody will notice the extra $300M in the construction budget.

This is a pretty tight strike zone on BOTH sides of the plate.

I won't really care as long as Wakefield doesn't get the benefit of the call.

"1)Game 7, 2004 ALCS"

I agree, that was a dull game. It was exciting for Red Sox fans because of what it meant, but the game itself was lame. I think it was game 4 and game 6 (or maybe 5??) when Boston had late-inning rallies off of Mo. Those were the exciting/heartbreaking games of the series.

If the Yankees do manage to scrape into the playoffs, I hope they don't break their arms patting themselves on the back as they have done the past few years. It seems like they are so satisfied to be there they don't bring any intensity to the playoff games themselves.

I agree that Kenny Rogers can't hurt. If a team in front of the Yankees signs him Cashman should be flayed. THey should block a trade even if they don't want him.

Just one last comment for now, regarding that Toronto game. I know the Yanks went 10 of 14 down the stretch and all that, but there are a few games in every season that you just HAVE TO GO OUT and win. The Manager needs to sense them, sense the potential let down and its consequences. For example this year, Girardi should have found a way to win the Geise game in LA, there was not excuse for letting Veras blow that game. After giving up the first homer he should have been taken out. Same with that Toronto game and with tonight's game. TONIGHT'S game is THE Game. If you can set the tone in the series by winning tonight, then you can win tomorrow without a sense of urgency. Above all, he needs to look at his players in the eyes and say TONIGHT, forget about all the rest.

In any case, you heard it here first, the Yankees will go 10 better than the Rays down the stretch and will make the playoffs. The run starts with Pettite tonight. Joba will be back by September 1 and Pavano will earn his keep in September while the team puts up gaudy numbers for the last 30 or so games. You can take it to the bank!

"In typical fashion, we lost to a rookie (Litsch) whom we should have beaten with Pettite giving up three on the other side. It was a game we should not have lost. Later on the bullpen, including Mo in Baltimore, would blow a couple of leads to doom the season for good, but this win would have put us one down with six to play and things could have been different"

That wasn't on Torre. The Yankees were playing their full compliment of players in those games. Pettitte got outpitched and Mo blew a save. Those things happen. Yanks were full out til the last day.

Actually Pancho, the Yankees won 10 of their last 14 last season ans three of the losses were in extra innings. Red Sox were 7-7 over those same 14 games. Nothing complacement about the Yankees finish except for the last day when they started Chase Wright.

My bad.

The hysteria and desperation were getting so deep around here that I actually thought we had reached the level of bad World War II comparisons.
