Don't care what inn. he drives in runs, they count all the same!!! Just because he makes the most $$$ everyone thinks he's supposed to hit when they want him to.Ridiculous, he's one the best players in all around performance in the game. Look at his totals every yr. Best 5 tool player in game. Don't care what he hits in certain innings, a 2-run double in the 1st. counts the same as the 9th. Never really had a bad yr. $$$ doesn't make you perform at any given time. 90% of players in BB are over paid!!! None deserve the huge salaries they get!!!But, can we blame them for taking it? He doesn't make excuses for bad games and make stupid remarks like some in MLB.Remember, he came to NY and moved to 3rd., even though he is/was the better SS. Jeter is still my favorite!!! How anybody can knock that guy is beyond me. Perfect example of a winner with CLASS!!!

"Yeah, but when it really matters - with runners in scoring position and late in games - he sucks. I’ve seen a number that this year, he has like 5 RBI in the 8th and 9th innings, whereas last year he had over 30."

Situational stats are always a little iffy because of the small sample size, but if you head over to baseball-reference.com you can look up all this stuff.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/bsplit.cgi?n1=rodrial01&year=2008

For 2008:
With 2 outs, and RISP, A-Rod is hitting .245. This is below average and he should get that up. However, in those situations his on base percentage is a whopping .452. That is exceptional by any measure and is in fact far better than his on base percentage in standard situations. The fact that he is OBP-ing more than 200 points above his batting average means he receives a LOT of walks in those situations, which would suggest he does not see very many good pitches at all in those at-bats. Effectively he is pitched around.

In Late and Close situations you see a similar effect, he is batting .279 and OBPing .375, and with RISP regardless of outs he is .242/.395. Again he is not seeing many good pitches at all in those at-bads and works the walk when it counts.

I’m done with you.....

now my feelings are really hurt. I never said Arod shouldn't be held accountable for his play and I have never heard him pass off his play. But the fact is that he is not the ONLY player on this team to play poorly and isn't the only OVERPAID player on the team, hell he isn't even the captain of the team but he takes on all the blame when the team loses its a TEAM game one player can't do it all by himself.

By the way you never answered my question on how struggling equals 'nut/head case' for ARod but slump for everyone else... that was my original question.

2) How many of his 2008 home runs has A-rod hit with
a) with Yanks in lead by more than 3 runs (already way ahead).5 and we all know our bullpen would never give up more than 3 runs in a game :)
(b) with yanks in lead by less than 3 runs (breaks game open, 7
(c) with game tied (gives Yanks the lead!), 6
(d) with Yanks behind by less than 3 runs (ties games or makes close), 6
(e) with yanks behind by more than 3 runs (too little too late)? 4, but we all know if you're down by more than 3 runs the game is over and the extra innings are just for stat padding when Alex gets a hit

YankeeDiva

If you want to talk about Giambi, that's another issue altogether, comparing his situation with Alex Rodriquez is different.

Giambi is an aging player who has seen his best days, Arod on the other hand is still in great shape and should be playing better.

I guess the big difference between you and I is that you would like to dismiss or make excuses for the poor play of Rodriquez in 2008,fine. I am not so forgiving for someone who is getting paid 27 mil this season and happen to think part of the problem has his own doing.

I'm done with you and this topic.

And once more - this is a big question for A-Rod... (clearly I'm blog retarded today and need a weekend off from the computer, but here's the question I'm getting at the way I want it worded)...

2) How many of his 2008 home runs has A-rod hit with (a) with Yanks in lead by more than 3 runs (already way ahead), (b) with yanks in lead by less than 3 runs (breaks game open, (c) with game tied (gives Yanks the lead!), (d) with Yanks behind by less than 3 runs (ties games or makes close), and ( (e) with yanks behind by more than 3 runs (too little too late)?

Thanks!
