For 2008:
With 2 outs, and RISP, A-Rod is hitting .245. This is below average and he should get that up. However, in those situations his on base percentage is a whopping .452. That is exceptional by any measure and is in fact far better than his on base percentage in standard situations. The fact that he is OBP-ing more than 200 points above his batting average means he receives a LOT of walks in those situations, which would suggest he does not see very many good pitches at all in those at-bats. Effectively he is pitched around.

In Late and Close situations you see a similar effect, he is batting .279 and OBPing .375, and with RISP regardless of outs he is .242/.395. Again he is not seeing many good pitches at all in those at-bads and works the walk when it counts.

now my feelings are really hurt. I never said Arod shouldn’t be held accountable for his play and I have never heard him pass off his play. But the fact is that he is not the ONLY player on this team to play poorly and isn’t the only OVERPAID player on the team, hell he isn’t even the captain of the team but he takes on all the blame when the team loses its a TEAM game one player can’t do it all by himself.

By the way you never answered my question on how struggling equals ‘nut/head case’ for ARod but slump for everyone else… that was my original question.

(c) with game tied (gives Yanks the lead!), 6
(d) with Yanks behind by less than 3 runs (ties games or makes close), 6
(e) with yanks behind by more than 3 runs (too little too late)? 4, but we all know if you’re down by more than 3 runs the game is over and the extra innings are just for stat padding when Alex gets a hit

If you want to talk about Giambi, that’s another issue altogether, comparing his situation with Alex Rodriquez is different.

Giambi is an aging player who has seen his best days, Arod on the other hand is still in great shape and should be playing better.

I guess the big difference between you and I is that you would like to dismiss or make excuses for the poor play of Rodriquez in 2008,fine. I am not so forgiving for someone who is getting paid 27 mil this season and happen to think part of the problem has his own doing.
