Just because Joba is being called a “true ace” doesn’t mean that Phil can’t be one. Fans just don’t have the inclination to be patient with young players and Phil is just the perfect example of this. People remember his bad starts and not his good (conveniently) and they forget that this kid was the #1 pitching prospect in baseball. Scouts LOVED him and for good reason. I don’t envy young players with the Yankees; if they struggle at all when they are called up, they will be labled as busts and ripped apart by the fans.

i agree 100%. joba is the true ace and our crown jewel. everyone else should be traded for some young hitters. a good showing in the AFL will propel their trade value
we also need to let pettitte walk, he is finished.

I could see them trading Cano for a young pitcher (Cain, Billingsly, Kershaw etc.) and trading Hughes for a stud position player. If we don’t get CC, that becomes even more true.

This off-season will define the Yankees for the foreseeable future. Are they going to be a playoff team on the up-rise and start the new stadium off on a good note while reclaiming our spot at the top of baseball? Or are they just going to re-create the redundant mediocrity of the 80s facilitated by failed prospects and over the hill allstars with no direction?

Pettitte needs to leave or take HGH.Sherman isn’t to crazy on what he said.Joba is the true Ace.Hughes should be given a chance but Kennedy should be traded.He’s minor league numbers are too god to say he won’t be a good pitcher.

It’s the Yankees fault for rushing these guys.

Dave, I don’t read anything Sherman says and I regret reading that post that quoted from him. He’s never liked Phil to begin with, starting with his debut. The Yankees have invested a lot in Phil and to suggest trading him (regardless of the return) because he’s 22 and has struggled (at times, not ALL the time like impatient fans and media types would suggest – of course, at 22, Phil is over-the-hill and over-hyped; his best days are behind him, lol) is foolish, IMO. It’s also moot. I don’t think they are signing CC (a real longshot, IMO), nevermind CC and Sheets.

the AFL will be a good test for hughes and kennedy. they won’t be facing 27 yr old minor leaguers like they would be in AAA. they are facing cream of the crop young position players that are close to ML-ready

Not really sure if the AFL is the best place to “work” on things, the whole league is a bandbox and teams send their best hitting prospects there. It’s basically like AA/AAA.

I’d imagine they send him there more for evaluation than to work on things. We sent Ohlendorf/White there last year because they wanted to see how they stacked up against good competition.
