As an addendum, Abreu is absolutely horrible in the field, as I watch him stumble after ball down the line like a 45 year old man. Hit he certainly can, but if you drill down beyond the numbers, it's an open question whether he loses more games with his wall-phobic and related foibles than his superficial RISP numbers. Look beyond the numbers.

Peter, you ask "how is a team with Aybar, Hinske, Bartlett, Gross and Riggans as their final five hitters in first place by five games?". Actually, it's quite simple. When they do hit, it's timely. They're not the pile on type of hitters, "cherry on top", "icing on the cake" etc, as our guys are....with 5 or so .300 hitters in the lineup virtually none of whom know what the word "clutch" means. The contrast underscores the necessity of looking beyond the numbers.

Also, no lollygaggers...Upton did it, paid the price when Madden benched him, apologized, and then returned. One wonders why Girardi, who we thought would be tough, supports these guys with really silly comments when he should come down on them....Cano, obviously, desperately needs Bowa, or a Bowa type to keep him in line.

As a "throw a-way", and as much as it may be difficulty for many to digest, as the days move on, the likelihood of Manny wearing pinstripes next year increases exponentially.

Just for the record:

I was a sportswriter for 10 years: I covered the NFL, the NHL, and edited the baseball desk for an international wire service, as well as work at two newspapers, one of them a major in a big city.

Therefore, I have plenty of experience talking w/players "off the record" and anonymously. SJ44 is trying to pull rank on people who have not been on either side of the sportswriter/athlete relationship first-hand. One thing I can tell you: players who anonymously call out a teammate always have an agenda. The Yankees have a lot of underachieving, aging veterans, some of whom won't be re-signed. Cano is 25, and locked up.

Even if the player is being sincere, it is the context that is automatically suspicious - he is confiding it to a reporter for a reason: he wants it printed, and he knows it will be printed. Trisha, of course it is entirely possible - likely?? - that the unnamed player is envious of Cano's position. How dumb do you think people are, SJ44? They're all going to put their tails between their legs and scurry off in shame because an unnamed "player" knocked Cano??

As for SJ44 knocking Cano's fluidity as a poor excuse for lack of hustle, I'm betting, with all of your wannabe connections and interactions, you are a learned pontificator but the notion of physical talent eludes you - for all your rhetoric, you don't seem to know how to recognize it. And, I'd bet my bottom dollar that you were a not-good-enough player who didn't have that "smoothness" you stupidly mock, because every time you raise the subject of Cano in the name of rationality, the bile drips all over the commentary.

We don't all have to all dive and cause a cloud of dirt to reflect effort. That is the worst kind of cliched thinking there is,

Whether the Yankees do or don't move Cano, whether he fulfills his potential by winning gold gloves and batting titles, or helps the team win a championship, or does not - you are the runaway champion of the most hackneyed kind of spin. The most cliched kind of "thinking."

it makes no sense to keep pitching ponson or rasner.

the season is over,he won't be back and we need to get the kids pitching to see what we have and to increase trade values.
