Starting Ponson and his 15.83 ERA in his last start is waving the white flag as far as I’m ocncerned. Rasner is a long reliever, good for no more than 60 or so pitches… that may be his niche for ’09.

It’s incredible that the Yanks got as much out of Ponson & Rasner as they did. Once the Yanks are mathematically out of it, Sidney will be released, and one of the kids will get a shot. But if you just start kids in the rotation now, it’s waving the white flag.

At least we dont have to worry abt blowing the lead with Varas and others in the 8th inning..

We did this last yr and looked pretty good.. but Ponson should be out, rather see Hughes back up in his place.

Playing it safe with Joba makes perfect sense considering the Yankees status. Sending Ponson out there for another start is, frankly a middle finger at Yankees fans. the guy’s ERA the last three starts is over 15 for crying out loud!

Edwar has shown enough to have a shot at a job in camp, especially if the Yankees fail to add a second lefty. The Yankees control all the guys in the pen contractually.

Joba Chamberlain is back – as a reliever…and Ponson is still in the rotation….BRILLIANT !…GEE, I wonder what the Yankees are trying to do this year ?…doop-dee-doop…DERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

No Coke, Pepsi… Had to say that. Glad to see the effervescent rookie have a good debut.

With the expanded roster you could make Sir Chump’s next start a bullpen game. Which essentially it will become anyway even if Sidney toes the rubber.

Good to see some of the “kids” come up and have nice debuts like Coke did today. Only time and exposure will determine who will stick around.

Giese looked like a possibility until his injury (same thing as Joba?). Is he our best candidate for long man?

Like many have said hear, next season’s bullpen competition will be interesting. All I know is that we have better options than Edwar, and they should be employed. His one-trick act is easy for major league hitters to figure out. I can usually find something redeeming in each of the roster guys, but I can’t find anything positive to say about Edwar.

Eddie showed us what he was last year. Steady work and an “improved” fastball make him only part time crappy this season. I don’t know what Edwar’s contract status is, but I only hope that he can be gainfully employed elsewhere next season.
