Is 'The Idle' the new Kenny Rogers?

Hell yes there is a Hal Holbrook subculture- it is kind of like The Sons of Lee Marvin. There is also a Lou Manheim subculture- they are known as Ron Paul voters- "Jesus, you can't make a buck in this market, the country's going to hell faster than when that SOB Roosevelt was in charge- too much cheap money sloshing around the world. Worst mistake we ever made was letting Nixon get off the gold standard."

He actually said that a couple of weeks ago! LOL

If he can hold up the rest of the way, and win say 5 or 6 games, pick up the option, eat a few dollars and trade the bum.

Not to defend Pavano but objectively speaking ... being out for so long you really can't expect him to be 100% for a while. Upper 80's is no surprise if he used to be low 90's before all the injuries. And I'd expect any guy to need some time to get his finesse back too.

Still, he should have won at least 60 games for the Yanks so far over his over 4 years here, not 6.

Pavano's fastball is in the upper 80's?

Sounds like he's in that 'dead arm' period some guys get part way through the season. Pavano's still in the 'dead arm' period from the '05 season but like with everyone else, it'll eventually pass.

If Pavano feels like he cheated his team by not being able to go another inning or so (or even into the 7th or 8th) then maybe he should offer to give back some of the money he was paid for what he might consider a full effort.

He can pitch well when (sorry .. 'if') healthy so he knows what he can (sorry ... 'should') be able to do out there. He was a slightly above average pitcher (by his career stats) who went 18-8 the year before he came to the Yanks. IMO, something around 15-10 records would have been expected of him on average.

Each additional MPH increases the margin of error, but losing velocity often leads a pitcher to become more committed to command, location, movement and change of speeds. some guys (Mussina, Guidry) make the adjustments and extend their careers.

But Bo knows is right.... they'd all prefer to keep their best heater for as long as possible.

Trust me, Heater is good. Ask Moose if he'd like his 94 MPH heater back. 94 is easier.
