sj44. if you came back to read responses to your post.

all i have to say is welcome to the internets.
im glad you found it.
and im sorry your first day with it you found a meanie. you ignore those people they go away thats how you win. registration, however, isnt the answer. anybody can register a fake account.
you can also hide behind proxy servers which post different ip addresses.

hope your next internet experience is filled with joy.

Man - look at Jeter's face in this shot. It looks so heavy with not only this moment, but the whole season, it seems.

If you notice, Abeau didn't tip his cap either. I don't think it was intentional. People react differently.

Some terrific blogs have been ruined by envious spite.

I don't want this one to go the same way.

Pete, admin, and whoever else needs to pay attention -- you've got a good thing going now, and will never have a better moment to make the needed changes.

Let's not let this one go down the way others have!

I concur with Joe in LI.

Pete did an amazing job capturing everything yesterday, and throughout the season, for that matter.

The newspaper industry is a dying industry. That's not news.

Newspapers from all over the country are trying to find ways to attract readers/customers.

What Pete has done with this blog is give people a chance to read the Journal News who would never have done it in the past.

He's built the best Yankee blog, and probably the best sports blog, among any of the NY newspapers and did with no budget.

To that end, I sincerely hope his editors and bosses STRONGLY consider making the changes necessary to improve this blog to keep it going.

Namely, a real registration program.

This blog is to the point where its not going to lose posters/posts due to registration. It will lose them due to the lack of it.

While I was at the Stadium last night, and was skimming through the posts, the amount of anti-semetic and idioic garbage reached new levels.

As it is, most game threads are ruined by this nonsense.

For it to go on as long as it did last night, unchecked, is embarrassing for the Journal News, and for Pete, who deserves better.

They can't expect Pete to moderate the blog all the time. They can however, make it a better place to read/post and they are going to have to take those steps to do so in the off-season.

If the newspaper industry wants more customers, they have to take the steps to make the blogging experience worth it.

If not, they will lose what they gained.

Its also not a "free speech" argument. Free speech doesn't allow you to yell "fire" in a crowded room. Nor does it allow you to spew anti-semetic garbage unchecked on a sports blog.

If folks choose to go that route, then public their names and IP Addresses. This way, they can have their "free speech", and those opposed to what they write will have a forum by which they can return the fire.

For this blog to continue to prosper, the issue of registration has to be addressed this off-season. Hopefully, to a better conclusion.

Pete - I don't know if you're reading this, but if you are...

You and the Journal News staff did a tremendous job the past couple of days, and especially yesterday, on the blog. Yesterday was a celebration, not only of Yankee Stadium, but of all things Yankee. Reading this blog throughout the day as I did my weekend chores, and at night during the game and celebration, made it all the more special.

We have a great collection of Yankee fans here.

Thank you.
