"hobbie, its not the lineup, its practice. It doesn’t mean that Jeter isn’t going to be in the game, though he was clearly hurting in the last game. His fielding didn’t seem like it was affected as much as his batting was."

lol it was a joke about Pettite taking grounders at short. Inexperienced lefty shortstop... get it?

"not showing up for practice and letting Gardiner take his job?"

Melky doesn't have that job. He lost it a long time ago. And not to Gardner. He just played himself out of it by not hitting.

Jeter must be hurt worse than I thought if we are resorting to an inexperienced and left handed shortstop.

When Pete says the players on the field include..... is it an all inclusive list or are their others. Is Melky doing a Shane Spencer impersonation- not showing up for practice and letting Gardiner take his job?

It was the TEAM thanking the fans.

What was Coke supposed to do? Follow behind the group chanting, "I'm Not Worthy"?

I feel for Melky. He was forced fed into the lineup at age 22 and had some moderate success. The Yanks, in a move to hype their fallow minor league system,Yankees print "Got Melky?" shirts and sell them at the Stadium. Then, when the kid performs at a level consistent with his morderate abilities, they make him a scapegoat.

Don't get me wrong. Melky regressed from his moderate success of a couple of years ago. But they should have actually done more developmental work (like improving his bunting skills and learning plate discipline) in the minors before making him their starting center fielder. Now the kid seems to be messed up.

"Don’t get me wrong I like the guy but if you weren’t a Yankee fan you’d think he were a 10 year vet."
Well Coke's reception isn't remotely as crazy as Joba-mania last year.
