I also absolutely agree with his point about the team that wins the world series oftentimes being nothing more than the team of the group that got hot at the right time.
But I guess I have to stop at his saying that no team in the NL west should be in the playoffs because teams in the NL west is a weak division.

If I ever did accuse you of impersonating someone, I certainly do not remember doing so. And I apologize if I jumped to thinking you were setting me up. I guess I was just tired for tonight of having people come at me from all directions.

I sincerely do think players who are hurt should shut themselves down. Selfishly I want them to do it for the good of the team. I’m not quite as worried about what they are doing to themselves.

Setting you up? For what? I disagree with you, that’s all. But if you’re going to put something out there as an opinion, people are entitled to ask you questions to clarify if they understand your position completely. Which I think I do now.

Then you missed Pat M’s point which says that you play in pain but you don’t play hurt. He hurt the team and potentially himself by playing hurt.

Some players will play hurt when they’re at the end of their careers because they feel like they owe something to the team, especially if they know that at an advanced age (for ball players) that surgery will probably end their career. Nolan Ryan pitched his last year, knowing that he needed Tommy John surgery, but, also knew that at age 46 he’d never pitch again. Pettitte felt he owed the team everything he had, since there were no better choices available in the system. I’m sure that if he feels that he can’t be affective any more, he won’t sign another contract. That was one reason that NYY signed him to the option year in 2006. They trusted him to be honest, and, in athletes, where mney is concerned, that’s usually rare. Look at what Schilling did in Boston. He knew that he needed surgery and Boston took him at his word and screwed them out of a contract.

I absoutely apply the same standard and think Jeter should have shut it down if he was hurt.
