Re Brett Gardner: Love this bobblehead's hustle in the field and on the basepaths. And if this were football, or if there were such a thing as a "designated fielder-runner," I'd say, stick him in center. As it stands, however, he is just plain terrible at the plate. I don't care if he's gotten lucky the last few games. He's quadruple-A at best.

And so the illustrious Yankee career of Carl Pavano has come to a screeching halt.
Will the violin section please step forward for a sad symphony minus an encore.

CB,

Nice to see you posting again. Your voice is always worth listening to, and unlike some others, isn't in love with its own sound.

On Cabrera, I couldn't agree more that he is an outstanding defender.

Vin: Cabrera is in a select group of defenders. I won't call him elite, because that's an even smaller, rarer group. But he is excellent.

Pat M - good advice. I still think however there is a bit of hypocricy when someone says they are unequivocally right and then posts something that is unequivocally wrong - and still trashes everyone who doesn't agree with his opinion.

But I will do my best to rise above it.

Tricia, Much of this forum is still about the good old boys
mentality...So there are credibility issues at times I suspect...Let me further expand on this.....There are some that need to won over maybe...However there are some very good baseball people here....Sj, CB, Randy I, and several others are real sharp baseball guys, anlike myself are from the days before batting gloves, just pine tar.....Diplomacy may get lost in the translation sometimes, roll with it and do not take it personnally.......It comes off weak and will be precieved as whining or even crying.....Remmeber in A League of their own, Tom Hanks....There's no crying in baseball....Not that you cry, it can be seen as such.....Look at this a hard ball...Dig in and swing hard....As I stated, you're smart, now be wise....

Laura, Im new to this blog so I'm not too familiar with you or your posts but from what i can tell, you love to oppose everyone's opinion. You act as if you should be the GM of the Yankees and your opinion is the right opinion.

But i have another suggestion for 1st base. Trade for Morneau with the exception of Joba, Hughes and Jackson. Texiera is overrated. Imagine this lineup

1. Damon DH
2. Jeter SS
3. Abreu RF
4. A-Rod 3B
5. Morneau 1B
6. Nady LF
7. Kemp CF
8. Posada C
9. Anyone including "Laura" 2B

Let me guess Laura... you dont think a trade for Morneau is possible and the Yanks would be crazy to deal top prospects for him.

Pat M I'm good with it. I just have great difficulty with posters who have any air of condescension or feel the need to personally put down other posters and call them names just because they are not in agreement. SW in my opinion does that often. I don't care who agrees and doesn't agree about Andy. It won't change my life any!

"He’s just not a big league hitter…He’s made it this far due to other outstanding skills"

Juan Pierre
David Eckstein
Corey Patterson
Michael Bourn
Chone Figgins

Why not Gardner? I just sorted for high SB guys with mediocre averages. They all have their place on good teams.

And in case anyone else thinks otherwise, Gardner is terrible. His only talent is speed and he doesnt even know how to run the bases.
