i just don't get these Cano comments - that he has re-appeared. He his .151 in April, but then hit at least .287 every month since then (including in September). If he had hit .287 in April he would be just about at .300 (0.295 or so). Yes, his OBP and his SLG are not great, but in terms of getting his hits, he hasn't been terrible.

Just came back to check this thread, and I'm not really sure I'm reading this right:

Cheer up. Loads of money will be spent by Cashman and Steinbrenners frozen head in the never ending quest to field as many superstars on the field as possible.

Yep. A Red Sox fan just made a joke about a frozen head.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/12/20/national/main533849.shtml

Read that before you go to bed kid, but only after you've done your Earth Science homework. It is a school night afterall.

Best live-blogging line ever:

"UPDATE, 5:40 p.m.: That’s a shame about Papelbon. He seems like such a nice guy, too."

I hope he broke his toes.

I find it amusing the highest paid team in America once again won't be going to the world series. Enjoy the offseason starting right NOW>>>>>>

Hey Bob,

I find it incredibly amusing that the World Series Champs can't even win the division again.

Thank god for the wild card.

Have fun in Anaheim. Ha ha! Almost not even worth the trip.

yes the manager did a weak job. However I remember a great qoute by Jeter last season. When the yanks were trailing the sox writers asked Jeter about having done it before, coming back from a deficit, and Jeter said something really smart, he said yes the Yankees have done it, but not this group of Yankees. Hes right. Maybe its this team. I mean if the bosox had Youk or Ortiz suddenly not hit in the clutch, late in games when the game is on the line the bosox would be out too. If you have guys who do not have the stomach or insides to handle pressure situations in close games you are in trouble. Especially if its a guy who is in a key spot in the order. Look at A-rod this year, last year he got so many clutch hits, the first four years, and this year, nothing. That makes a big difference when the game is on the table waiting to be won, and your guy misses the opportunity and theother team snatches it off the table. Thats not the manager

Fans cannot complain about that

You are joking right Cheevers?? I don't think it was lack of talent or injuries (everyone has injuries). I think it was the manager. You don't think Clueless Joe would have eeked out 3 more wins than GI Joe?? This could be just the start of another long walk in the wilderness, ala 1980's...

Is the 2nd game still gonna be played???

I just finished reading your last update, and I have met papelbond and he is not as fun as you think he is... let's just say he is not in my list for Christmas gifts to give this year...

bosox bob,

please, the spending is pretty even between the big teams. I think its all about what they let Cashman do. He has not been a great evaluator of pitching and pitching is always the key. at least they put the money back into the team and try to win every year. Fans cannot complain about that
