UPDATE, 7:33 p.m.: Mussina took the lineup out to the plate. … Sorry for the lack of stats but I have some newspaper stories to write and neither starter is going to be around very long.
UPDATE, 10:09 p.m.: It has now been a 13-hour day at the ballpark. This season just won’t end as Scranton faces Pawtucket.
UPDATE, 10:32 p.m.: Ah, yes, Jose Veras. This should get the game over with.
UPDATE, 10:41 p.m.: Intentionally walking the bases loaded with Jose Veras on the mound? You just know he’s going to walk in the winning run.
UPDATE, 10:46 p.m.: That’s your season, 89-73.

Look, a Pudge sighting.
Jeebus but that’s a spring training lineup.
The Giambino in his last game in Pinstripes! Go Stache!
What channel is this game going to be on?
Mussina will pull a Brett Favre… he will try to come back when we already moved on without him.
We say we are committed to Hughes in the rotation like the Packers were with Rodgers. The fanbase will be split. Cashman will alienate Mussina like he did Bernie. Then Mussina will request a trade. Teams like the Rangers and Brewers call but Mussina says he wants to stay in the division to spite us. Then he threatens to show up at ST if we refuse to trade him. Then the D’Backs give us a call and offer Moose to us. We give them permission to speak with Mussina and they give him a tour of the Phoenix area and convinces him they are a winning team. Mussina complies, we trade him. Hughes is on the DL again, Mussina leads the NL in ERA at the ASB. Our rotation is in shambles, D’Backs win the West running away.
What time does it start?
I’m not ready for winter.
But I am ready to start making plans for ST next year.
Mike was very touched by the Standing o’ from the team!
Yes pete just one more game and you’re done for the season, where are the stats( i really liked them), and when exactly do they plan to start? lots of people we gotta say good bye Ponson, Stache, Pudge, Betemit (? is he under contract?),
Melky( will he still be around? although i didn’t gave up on him yet, he has shown he CAN play here. Etc..
So this is it for the 2008 season.
Very nice to see the Cowboys lose on the same day the Mets are eliminated from playoff contention.
Betsy, hopefully your Bears can pull it out tonight against the Eagles.
Anyone see Posada’s Centerstage? Awesome. Must see YES-TV.
Was there anything more lame than the Shea Stadium ceremony?
Doreen: What did he say? I was eating dinner.
I just heard that Mr. Moose won 20 games. I didn’t think he had it in him. Nevertheless, I’m very happy for him, but still mad at that a*hole Carl Everett.
Doreen I am, too funny. Especially when Jorge said that Stump told him he wasn’t playing than told him to go in the clubhouse and take his clothes off. Right after Jorge said it, he realized how it sounded.
What channel is the game on tonight?
how crazy would it be with Mussina come back out and get his 21st win?
R=Tek –
It wasn’t that bad. It’s not the Yankees, no, but it was fine. I liked how the players were shaking hands with the people in the stands.
The game looks like it’s about to begin. I have it on NESN. I thought it was supposed to be on YES.
it is on YES…
Randy Johnson threw a CG SHO today and struck out 9 (though he did allow an unearned run so I guess it wasn’t a SHO)
Angel –
It’s on YES.
As long as Moose doesn’t pull a Pettitte and go to Philly.
Go Mets! hehe
hopefully melky has a good game
we might not see him next year if he doesn’t
I can’t find it on my Extra Innings.
Angel, try it out on mlb.tv then
Mike Mussina’s managing the game?
The ceremony itself was alright… but the fact it was after their 2nd consecutive collapse and the fact it was rainy and gloomy outside took a lot out of it.
Whose dumb idea was it to schedule it after the final game?
Who is managing?
Gardner on with Wakefield pitching…
Ha!
i think mussina just handed the lineup card in
Before the game began, Mussina gave the lineup card to the umpires.
Oddyssey, thanks! I love Da Bears, but after blowing two games they should have won, I’m not holding out much hope.
Ugh – can’t believe I missed Moose’s comments. Aww, a standing O for him in the clubhouse? How wonderful for him – he deserves it. He’s gotten a lot of grief over the years, if not from fans, then from the media because he’s a unique personality. Well, I think his teammates appreciate him and I, for one, love his sly wit.
There’s no day schedule on the screen, just an InDemand logo.
Angel, don’t know if it helps but it’s on 729 on direct tv EI – NESPN feed
The Mets didn’t have anyone on their team thanking their fans, did they?
Let’s all be realistic here. Moose has given a number of indications that he would like to come back or would at least consider coming back. Moose has also given some indications that this is it. Anything—either way—is speculation as it’s highly likely that Moose doesn’t know what he’s going to decide.
So does Santana start game 1 in Wrigley on short rest or Pelfrey?
I hope Hughes comes in for Ponson!!!
Why would Extra Innings not show the last game of the year? Even if it was “meaningless” and postponed game.
I pay enough for it! scowl
“So does Santana start game 1 in Wrigley on short rest or Pelfrey?”
Can we not talk Fantasy Baseball right now? There’s still a real game going on.
Rebecca – No
The current team wasn’t involved at all.
The stadium announcer thanked the fans.
Mr. Met pulled the countdown lever. It revealed “CitiField.”
But the players coming out was nice.
Did the Mets do a march around the stadium after the game? With Schoenweiss and Ayala leading the march?
Correction – the “old” players.
not sure why ( because the sound is off on the tv as I’m reading) but phil Hughes was tossing in the pen. Is he a possibility?
Doreen: wow.
It’s amazing how two stadiums in the same city could be so different.
My EI channels are all in the 300s. I guess I’m not getting it. They really piss me off when they pull this crap.
I heard a rumor from my friend in Milwaukee that the Brewers are considering pitching CC in every game of the series against the Phillies, just to try and get the most out of their investment. Anyone else hear this?
Pretty appropriate that Ponson is starting the final game of this season…good riddance.
Guys, Ponsanity is pitching. If we don’t see Phil I’ll be shocked.
Very annoying that DirecTV is only showing the NESN feed.
Phil Hughes should do very, very well with this AAA lineup.
Hey if the Yankees win they’ll have a better record than the Mets.
even the B team is killing Ponson!! Where is Hughes?
At least you’re getting the game, Nick.
If any of you have mlb.tv, it appears that they are televising the game. I can’t get it because I am in the sux market.
“Nearly 30 minutes after Ryan Church made the last out at the stadium, most of the fans were still in their seats. They booed when Florida players came out to collect dirt from the basepaths. They booed every time the Mets announced anything over the public address system — “Our Shea Goodbye ceremony will begin in five minutes,†was particularly unpopular. And they booed Mr. Met.”
Does the dirt from that old dump really have much sentimental or monetary value?
I think they did cause that is the place where they knocked the Mets out two seasons in a row.
IHWSFM.
Prize to the person who deciphers that.
Mel: I hate Wakefield so f- much?
I think they shouldn’t touch the dirt. It might have toxins in it.
Argh. Gotta make it harder next time. Virtual bag of dumdums for you!
Mel –
only Rebecca could figure it out. I was still figuring it out. hahas.
wow He was OUT!! Even when we are out of it, the umps still find a way to get it wrong.
Very Jeterian indeed
Mel:
Good shot, Rebecca. =)
I saw this great video of Wakefield pitching to Dave Roberts (of the Orioles). He struck out Roberts on a knuckleball and the camera zooms in on Roberts. He kinda drops is bat, takes off his helmet, turns to Wakefield walking off, smiles and clearly says, “I hate you.”
mel-
You should know the only way to stump Rebecca is to ask about a 3 hour tour.
I was going to guess “I hate when Sidney fails miserably” but the other one makes more sense.
I posted this at the end of the Moose post but looks like all the die-hards are here tonight so I’ll propose this:
Best Yankees free agent signings ever:
1: Reggie
2: Winfield
3: Mussina
4: Hunter
5: Key
6: Giambi
7: David Cone* – came in a trade but i think he was a FA after the ‘95 season ended
8: Brosius
9: Mike Stanton
10: Tommy John
(not counting El Duque, Matsui, who I suppose were kind-of free agents)
Anyone I’m missing? Thoughts??
HEY PETE…sorry just want to get your attention…i hope you do your predictions for next year like you did last year…i really enjoyed it..no rush, just wanna make sure you remember!
Tino?
Maybe after the long Pennsylvania winter in Montoursville, he’ll reconsider.
I’ve been through there a few times as a telephone equipment installer back in the early 80s, it really is beautiful country, lush green, rolling hills, farm country, lots of streams and rivers.
Moose has found his niche, if you remember last season, he rarely got into the 6th inning.
This season I can’t remember a game he pitched poorly in.
I watched all his starts, there were so many early in the season his team sabotaged his efforts with poor defense or poor run support. I never thought he would make 20, but this team has played much better behind him the last 5 weeks or so.
Speaking as a Yankee fan, it’s been awhile that we’ve had a pitcher who has been as consistently good as Mike Mussina was in 2008.
Tino was a trade…
I want to see a Red S*x player get drilled, including and especially Tim Wakefield.
Let’s get a hit now
RhapsodyInBlue
I was out there last year, more trees than people.
Goose Gossage!!!
Bob Shirley-
Brosius came here in a trade for Kenny Rogers, he wasn’t a FA.
at least we not getting no-hit no more!!
Ed – looking foward to 2009
September 28th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
even the B team is killing Ponson!! Where is Hughes?
_
A double by Crisp, who’s hitting .285 and 2 infield rollers for singles constitutes “really killing” him?
thank you Melky
Yes, Goose should be in there—probably fourth (see, I knew I’d forget an important one!)
Please don’t get picked off or thrown out, Melky; that’s no way out of the dog house.
melky and miranda!
I could never live somewhere with more trees than people. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself.
I’m a north Jersey kid through and through.
GB7, Girardi could have had put Hughes out there against Sox’s B team. Hughes faced them in AAA and it has at least 12 Ks written all over it.
That would’ve been a great bunt situation.
good call Buddy – I know they re-signed him as a FA also but he shouldn’t count…
Robbie don’t bunt
Pretty good list change-up. The only one I can think of off the top of my head would be Boggs. On top of helping the 96’ team, he was the guy who initially taught the team how to grind out at bats, make the pitcher work and get to the underside of the other team’s bullpen. Plus, it’s always great to take a great player away from the Sox!
Nick,
With all the rumblings & grumblings about Girardi, we haven’t heard ONE word about Melky’s treatment. Kind of gives you pause.
Bob,
I don’t see A-rod on that list. They’re going to kill you.
when Robbie hitted the one out, I thought it was a home run or at lest a double.
A Rod was a trade.
They call the “1st & 2nd & nothing!”
That’s right, I forgot the Boston thing…
At least Alex can’t opt out this year.
Could you imagine how bad that’d be if we had to deal with that all over again?
Bob
How about Mo? He was a free agent last year.
Pauly: Yeah, Boggs certainly deserves merit… Another reason I posted this is that very few of the most significant Yankees over the past 30 years have come this way… A lot of guys have gotten paid big $$$ through free agency, and more power to ‘em… But in the long run even “picking and choosing” one or two “key” FA’s hasn’t worked… going all the way back to Dave Collins and ending (so far) with Pavano and Farnsworth, et al…
True on A-Rod… But he first came in a trade, and I guess technically he did the opt-out FA thing last yr, but did anyone else have the op to sign him, I forget…
Hughes should have started this game, even on 3 days rest, just to get his innings up. Ponson has no future with this team. That having been said, he was getting in his work in the bullpen, and I doubt we see him in the game now.
Really mean to say free agents from other teams, but, yes, Mo certainly would be at the very top of the list…
Hughes is already going to AZ to get his innings up.
Bob –
how about Jimmy Key?
Ed – I put Key fifth… But looking back, I think David Wells would be a much better pick there – Key really only had 2 good yrs with the Yanks, though I think he was a significant part of getting the beginning of the Dynasty going… Wells was great all four years in Pinstripes (both times as a FA)
I really enjoy this blog, especially the commitment from Peter and the Yankee fans who contribute every day. There were over 1,000 comments from game 1 today. I took a look at the Met blog. On the day of their most important game they have 6 comments. The dedication of both the author and the readers is amazing. I’m looking forward to the hot stove season and 2009. Keep up the great work.
And Bob Shirley would probably not be in the top 100
Robbie flashing the leather!
Oh, Yogi was the Shea Goodbye,, and Al Leiter, Doc Gooden and Daryl Strawberry.
Wasn’t there one thread once where we got 2000 comments on one post?
Rebecca –
Probably had to do with ARod.
Gooden got an amazing reception from the fans. That had to make him feel good.
pat –
I hope it did. It made me feel good for him.
Agree with John – it’s the last game of the first playoff-less season in 14 yrs and there are more than 100 comments an hour into the game… Great dedication, all! And a thanks to Peter for making this possible (some writers really hate doing these kinds of blogs but Peter really seems to enjoy it)...
“That had to make him feel good.”
And that’s a guy that knows a thing or two about ‘feeling good’
Doesn’t Wakefield have an interesting type of contract structure. Its like a one year deal thats worth the same money every year that the Red Sox just continuously offer him?
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m not ready for the season to end.
#9
He knows more about the opposite end of that spectrum too though.
Hey Pete,
You are the best baseball writer in NY, but today in your article where you gave out you end of season awards you missed the boat big time on the AL Rookie of the Year. You at least could have mentioned Concordia’s Mike Aviles, I remember you wrote a feature article on his college team when they went 44-10, Mike led all major league rookies in batting .325, 10 hr’s, 51 RBI, he is the Royals nominee for the Hank Aaron award. Pete you missed the boat.Give the local guy some love
Interesting thing from Kay…Wakefield asked for the ball to end the 5th inning, possibly his last career start/game?
“Best Yankees free agent signings ever:”
Goose Gossage
“Meanwhile, you can make a heck of a case for CC Sabathia for NL MVP. Who has been more valuable to a team than that guy?”
Well, for starters, Albert Pujols and Tim Lincecum and Lance Berkman.
#9 – Yes, Goose was big omission, should be third or fourth, maybe second if you go on impact alone…
GB 7- Did Kay say that? Sounds like it if that’s the case. I had thought that Wakefield had maintained that he would come back to the Sox on a year-to-year basis, if they wanted him. If this is true, then something must have changed in his life. Hopefully, nothing bad. Wakefield is supposed to be a good guy.
Yes, Wakefield has a year to year option that is in the neighborhood of 3-4 million I believe.
GB7, it will be interesting what the Sox do with Wakefield in the off season. In the second half of the season he alternated between being very bad and being very good. If the knuckleball is going right it is very hard to hit, otherwise it is a homerun derby simulation!
Cano is a hit machine now.
Memo to Joe Girardi: bench Cano again right near the end of Spring Training in ‘09 and tell him he needs to get his act together.
asdrubal: I agree that Pujols should get it, but the difference is the Brewers are in the playoffs and the Cardinals are not.
It’s a team option that extends a year each time it’s picked up.
Rebecca, I don’t know I’m kind of exhausted with all of this! Of course is might hit me tomorrow and the next day when I go to turn on YES and there are no games or postgames to watch!
If I don’t get to say this again tonight I just want you all to know how much fun it’s been hanging out with you. The interaction really helped get me through this strange season. Expecially being pretty much isolated in Sux country, it really helped to be able to emote and debrief with people to whom I never had to explain any particular feeling or reaction. Pete makes the blog possible but it was really the camaraderie with all of you that kept me coming back. I really have to get some stuff in order for work so I am using tonight’s game more as background than foreground!
I will definitely be stopping by for hotstove.
Thats what I thought. Kay didnt make mention to that though so I wasnt sure
“I don’t know about you guys, but I’m not ready for the season to end”
i feel the same way rebecca…but the offseason ( trade/fa signings, AFL, HWL, petes jokes, hanks crazy comments) should be fun and entertaining
You guys ever check out the lohud Met blog? There’s no one there. ever.
Ralph: Indeed this blog remained quite lively even last offseason and given that this one is going to be oh so much more entertaining…
Bronx Jeers: Yeah, but the Mets have other blogs that their fans go to. Just not the LoHud win.
Rebecca, not only are the Brewers going to the playoffs they wouldn’t be there without CC. You could say the same thing about Manny in LA. Both players have put up god-like numbers since their respective trades.
I’m watching ESPN’s MLB 2008: An Epic Season right now. It made me realized that Josh Hamiltion could be the next A-Rod. It amazing that he haven’t reach his peak yet and putting up numbers like a vet. who knows what kind of numbers he would put up when he reached his prime? It would be crazy..
Joe From LI, yeah, Kay brought that up in the top of the 6th inning and they showed wakefield asking for the ball from the umpire. Curious, but, if the Sox believe in Buchholz and or Masterson as starters next year, he’d really have no spot except in the bullpen.
wasnt miranda known for having no glove…kay and ken seem to think he is great over there..i guess since he hasnt done anything to make them think otherwise
I think this guy posts to the Lohud Mets blog sometimes:
http://tinyurl.com/3vqejc
Mr. Met is very sad in that picture
OMG Ed, they’re doing the All Star Game and I’m getting chills again.
Ray, it would be a bit of a shocker, huh? I haven’t even seen the hint of that possibility. Is his knees and back giving him that much trouble, that he’s going to shut it down and go home? I’d think that he’d make somebody a really good pitching coach or minor league traveling instructor. The man can pitch and he knows all sides of baseball on the field.
Rebecca –
LOL, You not the only one. I’m so wtih you, so not ready for the season to end. Starting tomorrow, no more Yankee baseball till March. =(
What am I going to do without baseball.. I really enjoyed the many months of procrastinating my homework to watch ballgames. Any suggestions Rebecca?
Don’t get picked off, Melky! I wasn’t kidding.
Christina: I don’t know if you can do this, but I did it last year and don’t regret it a bit—-
Go up to Cooperstown on a random day in January or February.
There’s snow everywhere, it’s freezing, and the place is empty.
It’s the best time to visit the Hall of Fame. You can get right up next to everything, all the exhibits (and they have cool ones) and all of the plaques.
It’s like magic.
I actually really want to do it again.
“Mr. Met is very sad in that picture…”
Any picture with Mr. Met is very sad…
I can’t see why the Bosox wouldn’t bring him back unless he was ready to retire.
On another note, another interesting thing from Kay and Singleton tonight:
Someone asked Ted Williams “Why didn’t you eject?” when his plane got shot up in Korea.
To which Ted Williams answered: “And I looked at my knees and I knew that I was going to break both my knees if I ejected and never play baseball again”
Guess who Teddy Baseball was talking to…
John Mccain.
“What am I going to do without baseball.. ”
Ask Carl Pavano – he should be chock full of ideas…
I actually did that last year. I luckily am quite close to the hall of fame. We would always go there for field trips and such. The only thing that stinks is that it is a small town and not much parking… Just a note of advice. If you go to cooperstown, NEVER EVER EVER use mapquest.
Nice way to stick with the play, for Cody Ransom. Nice arm, too.
nice throw there Betty!
And then, there’s the next play …
Rasner relieves Ponson.
Nope – not going to miss 2008 at all.

Well, since Williams was 6’4”/6’5”, the chances are that it wouldn’t broken them, because in one book he said that his legs were so far under that instrument panel, being fired out of that cockpit, it would have taken off both legs at the knees.
Another note on Williams in Korea, John Glenn said Williams was the best wingman he ever had.
Christina –
I remember last year after burden myself with homeworks and projects till after the semester was over. When the semester was over, I worked and pinned myself to the computer and finding out the team’s hot stove (during and off work) until January when class starts again. Then I burdened myself again with homeworks till Spring Training. It actually worked for me. Such a life for me last year, LOL..
This game was moving along nicely.
Well, you can’t go wrong following the big green signs after you get off I-87.
Christina: I just looked at the directions on the HoF web site!
You can see my entry on it here.
Swords are involved.
No, seriously.
Note to Betemit: You are NOT A-Rod, dont play 3b like him.
Melk man is going to get his butt kicked. He keeps making like he is going to throw the ball into the stands, and holds onto it.
Very immature. He still has somethings to learn.
Wow, Melky trying to curry favor with Yankee fans? Looked like he fake tossed the ball to the fans at Fenway then held the ball and ran in with it. Getting booed pretty heavily too.
Here’s hoping a Giambi/Timlin face-off this inning breaks the tie and saves us from Michael Kay saying ‘bonus cantos”.
Yeah, that’s pretty ballsy of Melky, considering he doesn’t have his friend Shelley backing him up.
Ack, I meant I-88.
I-87 gets me to NYC.
Has Timlin gotten anyone out this year? Talk about someone who needs to hang it up…
haha sounds good to me.. I can’t wait til school is over. I am so done with homework. It will be nice to watch games in peace without knowing I am once again procrastinating.
bonus cantos, baby
Damon managing?
AHAHA Damon managingg, brilliant

If Timlin tries to retire, Giambi will lead an intervention.
Terry: Since when do you take 87 to get to the hall of fame? Unless you are coming from downstate in which you take 87 going north, but you still have to cut through Albany, which then you have to take 90 or 88. Which if you know those routes, there are about 8 exits that say Hall of fame and you have to decide which to follow. I followed mapquest, which took me to a very random town in the middle of nowhere. I found a gas station and the lady was like, let me guess- mapquest. We get more people then u can imagine here because mapquest leads then astray.
If anything I would like to thank the Yankees for allowing me to finish my doctoral dissertation in a timely fashion.
Question?
Whom do you think will finish the season with the higher BA?
Giambi or Cabrera?
Here comes Timlin’s biggest fan
Board is really slow on sending the posts and copying…disregard the last partial post.
GB, Yeah that happens to me all the ti
This is very evil. Shows the class or lack their of they have in Boston.
Green Beret:
When I was working in Connecticut, I went to see Sen. Glenn speak at the Coast Guard Academy and I had a chance to ask him about serving with Ted Williams.
He said Ted had the best eyesight the USAF ever tested and that all of the pilots in that squadron liked to have him on their missions because he could spot enemy MIGs coming quicker than anybody else.
Glenn said that had Williams been a career pilot, he would have been one of the best there ever was, his hand/eye coordination was that good and he had great courage.
It was fascinating to talk to Sen Glenn, a great American in his own right, about another one. One night I’ll never forget.
When I was a kid, I attended the Ted Williams Baseball Camp. He had the loudest speaking voice I ever heard. He scared crap out of all of us. He only showed up one day a week and he would gather everybody around and tell us how to hit. I can still remember him saying, “The key to hitting is getting a good pitch to hit, damn it!”
Evening, all!
Congrats to Moose on his 20 wins! Hope we see him again in Pinstripes…
Amazing how well the Yanks have played these last couple of weeks…things might have been different…
Pete, that comment’s a post in itself. Amazing story.
***
Bag of DumDums says this game goes to extras.
Rebecca- I read your blog about the hall of fame- gotta love the sword haha. Its beautiful there in the summer. I actually have a bunch of pictures on my facebook when I went- I probably will head out there sometime this winter- its not too expensive and the area is beautiful.
Now would be a good time for Cervelli’s first hit.
See my comment @9:17.
I live alternately in Schenectady and Binghamton BTW.
The exit I take has an underpass. It’s either 17 or 18.
“Moose is finished†so says the guy who claimed Mariano’s shoulder was so mangled he needed surgery and Girardi was lying so bad about how f’d he was.”
Pete, you have to take it like a man and hopefully you learnt your lesson and be a little more responsible in your criticism of Girardi next year. Do not make up things, wait for the facts and do not call Girardi a liar without proper evidence.
Other than that your blog is the best.
Christina: I’d ask for your facebook but I don’t want to make you to give out your name on an open forum.
at least Cervelli is making Timlin work..
and..LOL, on Pudge’s pointing that way to cervelli.
Did Timlin always have a gold looking glove?
That was an interesting story, Peter. Thanks for sharing.
Like I said.
Bag of pops says we go extras.
Oh Cervelli, that was ball 4.
Terry- Gotcha. I am actually very close to there
Extras in the last game of the season with the ST lineups in… not exactly the most desirable outcome.
Rebecca,
Nice HOF pics! I’ve been there too a couple of times…the place is just something else…the town was cool too…

Speaking of facebook, the new layout is really confusing. are you having trouble using it/confused by it?

Thanks, PA. I got to see Williams late in his career in Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland, and close to him, Billy williams and Stan Musial, they had the prettiest swings I’ve ever seen. I used to see the Ted williams Baseball camp ads in Boy’s Life, Sporting News and Baseball Digest growing up. I wanted to go so bad, but, never could get the 3-400 dollars for it. He and Bob Feller also used to travel to american Legion posts everywhere and give the greatest speaches and somewhere I still have those autographs.
Rebecca- hmm maybe email it or something?
That was a very nice story from Pete, but I think he buried the lede.
Dynasty: It was actually the third time I’ve been, but the first I brought my camera and didn’t go in the summer.

LOL
robbie not liking sweet Caroline so much tv probably really didn’t want to show that unless I misread his lips
Ed: I’m annoyed by it.
Christina: If you want to, sure—rebecca@puristbleedspinstripes.com
Yeah, I looked at the response with the cut-off. Didn’t see the COMPLETE response till just a second ago. Knew something happened there.
Ted flew with Glenn and I think he was flying when Ted brought his fighter down for an emergency landing. Crash & Smash Team was on their game that day.
Mike wouldn’t consider pitching in the NL.
gayle,
Maybe doesn’t like the pedophilic history? (Is that story even true?)
Rebecca –
I’m still trying to figure out the new system. lol. there are rumors that you could get the old layout back.
new facebook = sucks
Sigh, does Rasner not know that walking Crisp is like giving up a double.
Kind of would hate to lose this game and waste Ponson’s gem.
But he would considering Toronto
Ed: There are ways to, but I’m lazy.
new facebook doesn’t bother me takes some getting used to but once you do very simple
Sweet Caroline Neil Diamond admitted last year was written about Caroline Kennedy
Who Mike? No way, the manager there. HATES! and I mean Hates Mike.
I am going to go out on a limb and say that Mussina is either a Yankee or a gentleman farmer next season.
Rebecca –
LOL oh…I don’t blame you. hahas
Agreed, Mike is either a Yankee, or a little league manager.
I think Mussina will come back for one more year for the thrill of pitching in the new Yankee Stadium. In fact, if he comes back, I would not be surprized if he is the starting pitcher for the opening day in the new park.
By the by did anyone watch the Centerstage on Jorg between games it was really good but really disjointed I thought in terms of flow.
I think to me more than anything re-inforced how much the team missed him not only on the field but more importantly in the clubhouse
Sigh again.
The first word I think of when I see Rasner is “toil”
The second word is “futile”
Please put in someone to get out of this inning.
is anyone actually watching this scranton vs pawtucket rematch?
rasner walks cora. CORA!! grife.
Mike said that Toronto and Detroit are teams he would also consider based on their location.
Come on DAMON take HIM OUT!!
You know, maybe if the Mets blowpen had some rhythm a la Boston…
...
nah.
gayle
I watched most of it, but my MIL called in the middle, so I have to rewatch. I loved it. Really telling that he thought (thinks?) there are players on that team who didn’t think losing was such a bad thing. I think that’s the line that should have gotten the press – not so much the Joba stuff. Coming from Jorge, I take it seriously.
Good lord Rasner pitching relief.
So now Mike sounds like he’s negotiating.
Not that he would sign with them- I didnt realize he didnt get along with that manager. I would assume the yankees would want him back- given he wants to return. And wow, for a literacy major, my grammar has been horrid lately.
Come on RASNER strike him OUT!!
Absolutely painful to watch. He’s working far too slowly.
holy crap rasner… it’s not ortiz you’re pitching to
That’s three sighs now.
Does anyone know how batting averages are rounded from the 4th digit?
Arod is batting .30039 right now. If he were to pinch hit and make an out, his average would drop to .20080. Would that be rounded up to .300? I can’t see them risking another at-bat if there’s a chance he finishes at .299.
And Jeter I think would not appear regardless, but his average is .30030, so his would drop to .29983.
Well Christina, if Mike reads this, he will never go to Toronto.
He isn’t alone. It’s no secret that Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston isn’t a fan of Mussina, and that’s putting it lightly. Earlier this season, when asked about Mussina—tonight’s starter for the Yankees—Gaston said, “Mike Mussina can kiss my [posterior], and you can tell him I said that,”
Today, when told that Mussina might never win 20 games in a season if Toronto won tonight’s game, Gaston smiled and said, “Man, I wish I was playing.” There were laughs all around as Cito left the dugout. Gaston’s dislike of Mussina dates back to the 1993 All-Star Game in Baltimore, when the manager didn’t use the pitcher in his home city.

make that .29980 for Arod’s potential new average.
hard to believe this guy pitched in over a dozen games for the yanks.
better not screw this up, Rasner!!
Here comes a hit
Nick
Are those numbers before or after this afternoons game?
Awwwwwwwwww Rasner. Very sad.
well I guess 89 wins is good too. Who’s closing for the Sox in this game?
Nice job Razzle Dazzle. I hope Rasner enjoys pitching in Pittsburgh next year.
who will close out for Boston since Papelbum was used earlier?
This will be a crappy way to end the season.
good job razz… go back to the nationals.
Rasner.
Not cool
That was kind of painful.
Well it won’t be Paplebon.
Start rounding forward from right to left… if the number is five or higher, raise the next number to the left up one and so on. However if you get to a four you stop right there.
THUS
.29983 would be .300
.29948 would be .299
There will be a test and no slider rulers allowed.
3 walks and a single. JFC.
Yuck.
Well, no extra innings, anyway.
90 would have looked really good; 89’s not terrible. But the truth of the matter is, it doesn’t matter either way.
pat, I hadn’t thought of that, I just looked up the numbers on Yahoo sports from the team page. But after your question, I clicked on the box score from the first game and it shows Arod’s average as .302 after going 2 for 4, so I’m guessing that the numbers I gave before were before the game. Making my question moot.
Nice to have the last laugh…
It still would have been nice to sweep them, heading into the post season.
I mean this with all do respect..
DARRELL RASNER SUCKS!
don’t worry people… Betemit, Ransom, and Melky will get us back in this game asap…!
Why didn’t we use Veras or Edwar?
so anyway….can’t wait for Yankee Hot Stove next month! can’t wait!!
terry- What is the saying, he who laughs last, laughs hardest?
Less than 150 days till P&C
Suzyn just said “very unlike Rasner walking the basesloaded”
Did she watch the games this year or just reach under the table for the 115 % proof ?
Why didn’t we use Veras or Edwar?
because then it’d be 15-1
Yes, incorporating today’s game, Arod’s average is .30196, which rounds up to .302.
Only fitting that we close out the season with Rasner on the mound
I was really hoping that Yanks would end the season with 90 wins.
Rasner blew it. We will not see him next year any way.
So, unless we have a late rally in us, we split the season series 9-9. We were 5-4 in Fenway.
its Johnny!!!
Damon just woke the crowd up. Joe still wants to win the game.
Upshot: Arod can pinch-hit without risking dropping his average below .300.
damon will homer… bet my bottom penny on it.
Man, when you look at some of the stats, it’s amazing the Yankees aren’t going to October.
didn’t we pound this guy on Friday night?
He who laughs last, laughs BEST
