I've enjoyed being a rookie on this post this season. Not sure how long it's been around, but it's been a lot of fun. Hopefully I've added a little something to the discussion, argument, character assassination that takes place here.

Thanx to Pete for having such a good forum. I've visited others and I consider this one to best the best, even if we are long a dog with a bone on certain topics...

Best to all. I, too plan on being a regular in the off-season and seeing how the '09 Yankees take shape.

As for an "event" I'm all for it, but please give lots of notice! I live in Florida, but my daughter is at Columbia and I can always use an excuse to visit the city.

Now it's time to see CC and Tex in pinstripes... hold on to Hughes and determine if the post-benching Cano is the one we'll see throughout next season.

Binghamton? Hmmmm, that's not exactly "abroad" I was picturing. Nonetheless, it's good to help your dad. My dad likes the Mets, so I helped him by sending him this in an email:

"For everyone that wants the Yankees to give a huge, long term contract to Teixeira, I have some questions…

You realize that Posada is 37 and coming off a serious injury, right? He will NOT catch everyday. So with Matsui as a full-time DH, where do you plan playing Posada when he’s not catching?

With 2B and 3B locked up for the foreseeable future, where do you plan to move Jeter when he can no longer play short?

Tex is great now, but are you okay with him taking a spot and earning 20-25 mil a year in 5-7 years when he’s not?"

Here is the best case scenario:

Posada catches 100 games and DH's 50 games.

When Posada catches, Matsui DH's, Damon plays LF and Gardner plays CF.

When Posada DH's, Matsui plays LF and Damon plays CF.

After next year, Matsui leaves and Posada can DH as much as he needs. If Jeter or someone else needs to DH, that's fine too.

LF Damon
SS Jeter
1B Teixeira
3B A-Rod
C Posada
DH Matsui
RF Nady
2B Cano
CF Gardner

Teixeira is one of the best firstbasemen in the league and is just entering his prime. We have a hole at 1B. Not signing Teixeira because Posada or Jeter may not be able to stay at their positions throughout Teixeira's contract doesn't make sense. Jeter and Posada would both be weak hitting 1B. Let Posada DH and Jeter move to LF when necessary. Don't let the fact that they are slowing down hurt other positions as well.
