Bill and zman are exactly right. Cashman has no clue when it comes to pitching prospects. They kept dicking with Joba until he finally broke and he gambleed the frachise this year on two unknown rookie starters. I am not happy that he is back leading the team.Other than Wang what has he done to strengthen the staff? Also you left out Latroy Hawkins plus all of the pitchers we drafted this year from the college who either didnt sign or needed Tommy John surgey–how do you reward this guy?

Brian Cashman is awful. He is ruining this franchise.

Here are some of the “great players” he brought on board…

Randy Johnson
Kevin Brown
Kei Igawa
Carl Pavano
Jaret Wright
Clemens (second time)
Kyle Farnsworth
Javier Vazquez
Jeff Weaver

And thats just the pitchers!!!

Not to mention blowing the deal on Santana, and also wanting Giambi instead of Ortiz.

Cashman took a dynasty and ran them into the ground. I can’t believe how many of you are thrilled he’s coming back.

Be prepared for more futily with a $250 million payroll to boot.

I’m not going to join the love fest here. I see this as yet another example of the Yankees being overly conservative and risk averse. Did they even look at other GM options? I doubt it. Hopefully, they can find someone who knows something about pitching, because Cashman clearly doesn’t. It wasn’t Cashman who built the championship teams of the late 90s. So remind me exactly why this is good news?? Is it simply because he can work with the Steinbrothers?? Personally, I’m disappointed.

Billingsley is the Dodgers ace and they might lose Brad Penny, Maddux and Lowe. Doubt Cano and Hughes could pry him loose, without Kemp. Need to think realistically.

First job should be, besides deciding on Girardi’s coaching staff, is to gauge interest, and go out and sign two quality free agent starters. Then they would have the flexibility to trade some of their minor league pitching for young athletic position players.

They might also look at a one year older stopgap good defensive cf’er, with some pop, because there are some real good outfielders in the 2010 FA market-Bay, Crawford, Holliday, possibly Dye and Ordonez, to play the corners if Damon and Nady not resigned and Jackson takes over in center.

At first glance, the brothers Steinbrenner seemed to be making a ringing endorsement of Cashman–until they got to the part about working “hand-in-hand with us”–have they just put Cashman on a short leash? Or are they determined to add more voices to the pre-decision process? Thoughts?

I am thrilled with this news. It takes a special kind of person to succeed with the Yankees, and Cashman has proven that he has what it takes. This is a crucial off season for the Yankees, and it would have been a nightmare for someone else to try to step in and make key decisions right away.
