AJ YANKS I really learned a long time ago not to pay attention to most of what sports reporters try to feed you. I think they are out there to sell papers and also are not always successful in removing their own biases from what they write.
The only thing you can really trust are direct quotes and final scores!
At first glance, the brothers Steinbrenner seemed to be making a ringing endorsement of Cashman–until they got to the part about working “hand-in-hand with usâ€â€“have they just put Cashman on a short leash? Or are they determined to add more voices to the pre-decision process? Thoughts?
[Sorry, pasted from an earlier post on another thread--I'm always late for the party!]
Second Base, I don’t think it pays to read too much into things. A three-year contract, to me, is hardly being on a short leash. Whateverspeak “working hand-in-hand” is, apparently Cashman understands it and is comfortable with it.
He is not ruining this franchise. Look every team wanted Pavano, every team wanted Giambi nobody wanted Ortiz with the numbers he put up with the twins.Every bullpen has problems he did sign guys with good numbers they just didnt perform here.Vazguez in everybodys eyes was the next Padro. And it was him who got A-rod,It was him who resigned Moose who turned in 20 win’s this year.I think Igawa was a money move that blew up in the Steinbrenners faces. But i will not touch the on Santana deal because that was a mistake.
Come on Bill there where 7 teams that wanted Pavano and Boston was pushing very hard his decision was made on his parents being Yankee fans. Also if Brian goes after the highest pried player explain why we dont have Beltran or Santana.
Any gag orders for Hank in the deal?
Will there be a “committee” of golfing-Tampa based Yankee advsiors helping Cash or any other “committee?”
I’m curious too… what were the provisions of the deal?
I have my doubts that Cashman would come back under the same conditions he had this year with Hank and Levine and al;l of them interfering.
Glad he’s back. because there was nothing else better out there.
Can anyone imagine what Larry Beinfest could do with Cashman’s spending ability?
i dont consider this a “big thing” so what cashman is back let see what he does
cashbum needs to get manny and cc
Well one of my four predictions has come out.
Since I don’t believe in percentages, to me you’re either guess right or wrong. There was never a question in my mind that Cashman would be back.
Now I’ll wait to see how my other “100 percenters” turn out.
What are they?
“i dont consider this a “big thing†so what cashman is back let see what he does”
I either. In fact the only thing that would have been a “big thing” is if he didn’t come back. His return was hardly unexpected.
1. Cashman would be back.
2. Cano would be nowhere but in Yankee pinstripes.
3. Abreu would be back.
4. Mussina would be back.
So I guess Hank isin’t this big bad wolf who was trying to blow away the straw houses that Cashman and the prospects live in after all?
predicting Cashman to exercise ++ creativity in this tenure. And taking more chances.
after this draft, the farm system should be further improved and offer Cashman further flexibility in building a roster.

Oh lord we think Hank is bad watching Al Davis press conference having him as an owner would be beyond nightmarish

ONWARD AND UPWARD!
working hand in hand with us means he will not have full autonomy… nor should he.
Hey Pete, are there any replays of the Live Chats? The regularly scheduled one and the Cashman one
Brian Cashman is awful. He is ruining this franchise.
Here are some of the “great players†he brought on board…
Randy Johnson
Kevin Brown
Kei Igawa
Carl Pavano
Jaret Wright
Clemens (second time)
Kyle Farnsworth
Javier Vazquez
Jeff Weaver
And thats just the pitchers!!!
Not to mention blowing the deal on Santana, and also wanting Giambi instead of Ortiz.
Cashman took a dynasty and ran them into the ground. I can’t believe how many of you are thrilled he’s coming back.
Be prepared for more futily with a $250 million payroll to boot.

Every team wanted Pavano? Not true – everyone wanted Beckett. Look who got him.
You are right – everyone wanted Giambi, no one cared about Ortiz. Look who got him.
See a trend here?
It’s the GM’s job to get players that will help the team – not to get the highest priced player on the market.
