A-Rod: Ace recruiter for the Yankees
Now that the season is over for CC Sabathia, Alex Rodriguez is doing his part to get the big lefty to sign with the Yankees.
In an attempt to show CC how great it is to be fabulously wealthy, Alex dined at a sidewalk cafe in the Village and casually wiped his face with a $100 bill.
It is not known whether A-Rod then flung the soiled bill to the ground and said, “Let’s see Jeter do that.” But one would assume he did.
It is expected once Sabathia learns that being a Yankee means you can use $100s as a napkin, he will sign immediately.
————
On a serious note, perhaps you noticed John Danks win two huge games for the White Sox in the last week. This would be the same John Danks who lost 13 games and had a 5.50 ERA for the White Sox last season when he was 22. The lesson is you have to be patient with young starters.
Sure, Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy had poor seasons for the Yankees. But there was a reason they were first-round picks (just like Danks) and you have to give them time. If the playoffs can serve as a blueprint, that is what the Yankees should take from it.
By all means, go get Sabathia or Derek Lowe or A.J. Burnett. But don’t give up on Hughes or Kennedy. Give it a year and they they could be pitching in a big game in October.

in all seriousness, it looks like A-Rod paying his check? lol
Kennedy? He has no future with us. He is trade bait
he has cherry chapstick in his hand too lol
Kennedy and Hughes have different ceilings, but the point is certainly still valid, especially for Hughes.
You don’t give up on guys after one year. Or two.
Yeah I doubt he’s wiping his face or anything, probably just trying to say something without the photogs seeing what he’s saying by covering up his mouth. Or he’s trying to pay and had to scratch his face without a free hand.
Tex is practicing tonight for when he is a Yankee.
0-2 so far with RISP
Hughes is a legit prospect, Kennedy is not. It’s funny how people lump them together as if they have the same ceiling and should both get the same opportunities.
Pete laying down the law. Everyone leave the kids alone.
is this TMZ?
Was Danks on the DL for 2 years?
Also did Danks say he pitched well after giving up 9 hits and 5 runs in 2 innings?
A-Rod can use those 100’s as toilet paper as long as he performs.
I agree- you need to be patient with Joba, Hughes and Kennedy. I think they all have the potential to be big league pitchers, with an upside in that order. I hope both Moose and Andy retire for different reasons and that Wang comes back completely healthy. If you can get CC or Burnett as a free agent, fine. I am not to keen on Lowe.
Nice to see ChiSox come back today and try and make it interesting. Hope that LA can do the same this evening.
PA was just having a little fun, but, of course, the target of the cheap laugh was his favorite bullseye.
I believe more in Hughes than in Kennedy…but we should be patient and give the kids a chance.
I wonder how much money Alex has in his other hand?
“A-Rod can use those 100’s as toilet paper as long as he performs.”
I think toilet paper costs more now so why not?

You don’t know whether he’s a legitimate talent or not. I can give you a long list of pitchers that disappointed everyone for the first 2-3 years. Pitchers with no more and in some cases less talent than Kennedy.
Or he was trying to cover his mouth so the paparazzi getting a picture of him couldn’t see him saying, “NY sports writers who care about my personal life need to get a life of their own.”
PS- I’ve had the pleasure of dining at Bar Pitti and they don’t take credit cards.

Mussina said the same thing early this year when he struck out the first 3 batters of the game and never got out of the second inning because of errors, infield rollers and broken bat bloops.
Ian Ken ?
Pete, I don’t think anyone needs to give up on that kid, he’s long gone, beyond help.
Let Hughes and Kennedy develop in the minors. I don’t want to watch bad baseball 2 out of every 5 games again next season.
I get a kick out of this.
For every story about a kid who started off horribly and then came around to be serviceable… there are 10 stories of kids who started off horribly and then remained horrible.
Danks is not a reason to have blind faith in Hughes or Kennedy.
If we have legit reason to believe that either of these two guys can turn it around, then fine… that is one thing. But “See, Danks did it!” and “They were high picks!” don’t cut it for me.
Cashman said neither Hughes nor Kennedy are guaranteed spots in the rotation. As long as he builds the 2009 rotation keeping that in mind, patience is a virtue we can all afford to have.
ian kennedy….really….i mean really…
if i had that kind of money id be doing alot more than just wiping my face with it….
Angles stink!! They all watch a ball drop in 3 players, oh look a ball lets let it drop.
Ah the Bermuda triangle….
One of those 3 Angels needs to be slapped.
thank you Angels!
Why can’t we beat that loser of a team? Someone please explain how that team turns into the bad news bears when they face the soxs?
I thought the Angels were supposed to be a good team.
Haha where’s Laura, I told her the Angels always find new and interesting ways to lose to the Sux. Every single freaking year. That was pathetic defense, all three of them deserve to get booted from this game.
They say the Angels are a “fundamental team” that do everything right. Not when they play the Red Sox. Seems like they do everything right against the Yankees though.
How bad are these Angels , I bet Sciosa doesn’t get any flack for the way they have played against the Sux. If this was the Yanks he would have been run out of town. This team can only beat the Yanks.
Worthless Angels
Looks like Big game Beckett will pick up another postseason win
The Angels are seriously choking. How can a team play the whole regular season playing great defense, throwing to the right base, hitting the cutoff guy, etc then play like this come October? Unreal.
“Mussina said the same thing early this year when he struck out the first 3 batters of the game and never got out of the second inning because of errors, infield rollers and broken bat bloops.”
And I would have traded Mussina for Johan Santana too.
“Haha where’s Laura, I told her the Angels always find new and interesting ways to lose to the Sux. Every single freaking year. That was pathetic defense, all three of them deserve to get booted from this game.”
I’m here. Just got home. Didn’t see the Angels error, but I can imagine how ridiculous it was. The Angels are Boston’s ….. (fill in the word).
Game over. Red S*x vs. The Rays
“This team can only beat the Yanks.”
We don’t scare them. BOS does.
Too bad. The Angels should be tacking on instead of catching up.
Ah, the chapstick explains a lot.

And that’s all the reason to bring back Mussina and Pettitte one more time. You’ll almost always get 6-7 innings from them. Add that to a FA like Sabathia or Burnett, along with Wang, and there is no rush to bring them in and give them a job. You’ll have Chamberlain and one of four among Coke, Aceves, Hughes or Kennedy to start off the season. Aceves could pull the Ramiro Mendoza role of long man and spot starter, as could Coke who could also be a situational lefty capable of getting 4 or 5 outs if necessary.
Hughes could use April to refine a few things and Kennedy would have possibly a half to full year to fix his issues. Chamberlain and Hughes are still going to have inning restrictions, and to a lesser degree, so will Pettitte and Mussina. They could skip a turn about every 5 turns and Hughes and the others could pick up the slack. Sort of a modified 6 man rotation.
Ladies,
Look at the table. Is Alex a little messy?

“All those who say I only want to go back to California to play, that’s not true.”
CC said that…finally all those who say he wants to stay on the west coast..
“I want to get it done pretty quick. I try to be as less free as possible. All that is is stress, having it drag on through the winter. I can guarantee you I won’t be flying around going to different cities. I’ve pretty much been to every city. I’ve got a lot of friends around the league. They’re going to have to come to me”

Pete must be trolling the celebrity pages. That photo of A-Rod has been on People magazine’s site for a few days now. He was caught having lunch with a few friends at a restaurant in NYC last week. They also have a photo of him getting into a cab after lunch was over with several people taking pictures of him.

You knew someone was going to go deep off Beckett. Hunter better hope they win this game.
Wow, he got all of that one.

Was Pete watching 2 different pitchers than the rest of us? I understand waiting on Hughes he has shown flashes of dominance and the ability to deliver in the postseason. However Kennedy should not be part of the Yankee organization next season. His attitude along with his lack of major league stuff should be enough reason to ditch Alfred E Neuman.
Napoli just bailed out Hunter and Kendrick’s rear ends.
YAY MIKE NAPOLI!
Yep, that Beckett, best postseason pitcher ever. LOL.
Ralphie,

The more interesting thing about that photo is look at Alex’s left hand. There appear to be many other 100s in that stack. It doesn’t appear that the recent stock market crisis is affecting Alex’s cash flow.
Mel -
for me, I always eat over my plate. I can’t stand crumbs all over my body, even when I’m being lazy at home.
Hey GB7!
Yeah, I’m not a fan of crumbs. I have to wipe everything down. Even if I’m in a restaurant and I make a mess, I clean it up.
Alex should have used some of those $100 bills to wipe down the table.
I need to see more of Derek Lowe in the postseason before deciding whether or not he’s a fit as a Yankee.
The Kennedy we’ve seen is as good as he’ll ever get.
Hughes is still a work in progress.
Ok, CC has spoken. He isin’t going to go city to city.
That means Hank, Hal, Cashman, Girardi, Jeter, A-Rod, Posada, Damon, Pettitte (if he comes back) all need to fly out to San Francisco and lure him. We’re the Yankees, we should blow away any team in a recruiting effort.
Encourage him to come East so we can give him the Westchester/Bergan County tour as well.
Does the money in Alex’s left hand equal how many runners he left in scoring position this year?
Who gets married first? Alex or Jeter?
Alex seems needy and Jeter said he won’t get married until he’s out of baseball.
Beck*tt just wanted to give Jas*n B*y a chance to win it himself.

Ralphie,
What CC says makes sense, but that last line was diva-like.
_____________________________________________________
Diva-like, perhaps, but sabathia’s got more friends than he knew existed as of today. It reminds me of every time a Latin player came up on the FA list, Boston fans said they were going to Boston because they were friends with Pedro Martinez. One year, 900 players were friends of Pedro’s and headed for Boston.
No crumbs on the black sweater, though.
The left hand looks strange, look at the fingers. Like they’re going through something solid.
Eh.
So glad the Angels tied the game. Until now I wasn’t sure they wanted to win at all.
2 things bother me about Lowe. Isn’t he, like, old? And can he pitch in the AL east now?
Aside from the hand they throw from, I have a hard time seeing the difference between Kennedy and Igawa.
Didn’t Igawa also make comments that he pitched well after that Detroit game? Maybe thats where Kennedy got it from! Igawa and him exchanged media secrets in Scranton.
“Who gets married first? Alex or Jeter?
Alex seems needy and Jeter said he won’t get married until he’s out of baseball.”
My money says Alex gets married again before Jeter does. I’m not convinced that Jeter will ever get married.
GB7,
No, not that part. The part about they gotta come to me. Maybe I should have said “godfather-like”.
Like, “Kiss the ring. What there’s no ring? Who’s gonna give me a ring?”
Good evening, Ray. Hope most everything is going well for you. Can only hope it gets depressing for you in the baseball sense starting today. Hope the family is well and stocked up on tissues.
Doreen,
LOL. Maybe Alex was having lunch with Criss Angel.
mel -
I think I read Lowe was 36, which is the same age as Pettitte, right?
And I thought he wasn’t quite as good in the AL East as he is right now in the NL West.
I guess until these moves actually happen, though, every name is going to be floated. But if the Yankees do sign CC, I don’t think Lowe would be on their shopping list.
Lowe is a 3-4 starter in the AL east. 12-16 wins 4.00-4.50
He would pitch 200 innings.
Jeter will never get married. He will take over for Hugh Hefner when he retires from baseball.
mel,
A 3rd thing that bothersome about Lowe is he is a big time partier. One of the reasons the Red Sox soured on him was his off field habits. If he couldnt control himself in a small town like Boston, can you imagine how he’d be behave in New York City?
just for the record, Lowe’s first full season in the rotation is just a fluke. The tough team in the AL east he had to deal with was just the Yanks back in 2002.

Mel, I can understand his point. Using your anology, I wouldn’t have had the nerve to ask Don Corleone to stop by my house for cookies and milk because I have a favor to ask of him. I’d make sure to crawl over to him.
I’d even let Sabathia keep my new Cross Pen that he signed the contract with.
“A 3rd thing that bothersome about Lowe is he is a big time partier. One of the reasons the Red Sox soured on him was his off field habits.”
Didn’t I read somewhere that he had changed his partying ways?
Lowe and Ponson can go bar hopping together.
Okay I have a question. How does one learn that a player is a big time partier? I’m seriously curious. And couldn’t Mantle, et al., be considered to have been partiers? Yet they were able to produce. (Or were they just heavy drinkers, and that’s okay?) I live a sheltered life and don’t read the NY Post or People or Us or the National Enquirer, so I’m admittedly out o the loop!

Good evening GB7. I hope everything is well with you and your family too.
From the very start of the season Beckett just hasn’t been the pitcher he was last year.
In spite of Dice-K’s record, for the most part I have felt most comfortable this year when Lester is on the mound.
And what kind of kick was that at first base by Beckett????
“can you imagine how he’d be behave in New York City?”
Like David Wells and David Cone if we had any luck at all. Both FULLY apreciated all that NY had to offer and still found their way to the mound every 5 days.
1) Imagine having front pocket change and it’s all 100s. I had a dream like that once.
2) Can’t speak for all rich folk, but carrying a flash roll seems a little gauche. Unless he was on his way to a pick up poker game. I recall A-Rod had an issue a while back… Interestingly, I note that some genuinely rich people that I’ve worked for/with don’t carry much, if any, cash around.
3) I’m fairly sure Bar Pitti takes plastic – you know, like the Black AmEx Centurion card A-Rod no doubt has. (But I’m even sure they would agree to bill Mr. Rodriguez if he had neither cash nor his AmEx Centurion Card – he being a member of the rich superstar class).
4) Seriously, you don’t expect to see A-Rod scratching a Metro Card against the grain of his beard, do ya? Dude was taking a cab and that ain’t cheap in NYC.
5) Is it just me or, if you squint a little, isn’t A-Rod starting to look like Alfred E. Neuman?
http://www.leconcombre.com/alf.....uman_1.jpg
“How does one learn that a player is a big time partier? I’m seriously curious. ”
A lot of these guys have photographers following them all of the time. If every picture that the photographer has of you is at a club, bar or Hef’s house, you are deemed a big party guy.
“And what kind of kick was that at first base by Beckett????”
It looked like a soccer kick to me.
GB7,
Yeah, but it’s kind of crass to say it out loud.
After the total flop with Hughes and Kennedy and not getting Santana the optomistic talk continues, just amazing.
Lets see if they can even stay healthy next year.
If I was the Yanks I’d pull out all the stops. Full NYC tour, broadway shows, tour of new stadium and also a tour of local real estate where he can raise his family. Bring him up to Bergen county or Westchester let some professional agents show him around. Then ultimately I would have A-Rod, Derek, Posada and a slew of Yanks legends, Reggie, Yogi all sit down and have a talk with him. Whatever it takes the Yanks need to go full throttle for CC.
can you imagine how he’d be behave in New York City?
Posada is known as the “Punisher”. Those who slacks off and isn’t giving the team all his efforts shall be punished by Posada. Remember Posada went off on the team after the Boston game when the Yanks were 1 hit?
“Like David Wells and David Cone if we had any luck at all.”
Cone was a big party guy? I had no idea. He doesn’t look like he parties. He struck me as more of a “home watching Star Trek episodes” kinda guy. Who knew?
“I’m fairly sure Bar Pitti takes plastic”
Trust me, I found out the hard way that they don’t. There is an ATM about 2 blocks up Sixth Avenue though.
AL –
I think CC did all those broadway shows, touring NYC already when he was pitching for Cleveland.
Pete, I have to hand it you. You continue to find ways to keep your loyal readers amused on a winter’s night.
Trust me, I found out the hard way that they don’t. There is an ATM about 2 blocks up Sixth Avenue though.
Same here. When I go clubbing during the weekends, I always had to make sure I have cash on me.
Joe from Long Island -
Please, please don’t rush the season!!!!
The leaves haven’t changed yet, after all!
I hope thats the last time we ever see Derek Lowe in the same sentence as Wells and Cone. Lowe’s won more than 14 games only 3 times in 11 years. He turns 36 in June and his combined record the last 2 years is 26 -25. Let’s hope the Yankees dont start signing 36 year old pitchers to anything more than 1 year deals.
If Cashman doesn’t put on a full court press to get CC, he should be dismissed.
The only thing that should stop CC from coming here is CC himself. If he is amenable to coming here— give him whatever he wants. Money has no boundaries when you are dealing with an ace like CC.
There is no way we can screw this up, this could change the franchise. Please Cashman, toss away your conservative ways for one FA signing. There is no way you can rationalize not getting him if he wants to come here.
Is Varitek still looking for Posada money? How can he even ask for that with a straight face?

Ray, no question that this year’s Boston rotation has more problems than last year. Not sure about you, but, I wasn’t even counting on Schilling to do anything this year. I didn’t think that Lester was going to explode into a full-time second ace, though.
Matsuzaka is difficult to figure out. Last year, he pitched great, but, the record didn’t show how good he was, but, this year, regardless of the reord and ERA, he wasn’t nearly as good….just luckier than last.
I also thought that Beckett would back up his season, considering how they all talked about how he had pitching figured out.
Wakefield, you can usually pencil i his numbers from the year before, but, injuries got him this year.
The bullpen was a hit and miss, much like the Yankee pens from 2003-2007.
Laura, no way Varitek gets Posada money.
I’m guessing Sox offer him a 2 year contract but at lower money.
“There is no way you can rationalize not getting him if he wants to come here.”
I think that Cashman is going to make a serious effort to get CC, but they are not going to throw A-Rod money at him. Nor should they. He’s a pitcher, who has been worked like a dog this year. An injury could be right around the corner.
“I’m guessing Sox offer him a 2 year contract but at lower money.”
Do you think he takes it? There are a few teams out there that need catchers. The Mutts supposedly want to change catchers. I don’t see Varitek going there, but you never know.
Phil Hughes-See Steve Karsay
“Magicians kinda freak me out!”
Nope. Mimes do it for me. They totally creep me out.
As for Jeter getting married, Yahoo Sports had a picture of the Cap’n and Minka Kelly at the closing ceremony at the last Yankee Stadium home game. To me, that’s about equal to Jeter getting engaged. He doesn’t usually have the current squeeze with him in a baseball context – usually he keeps the two worlds separate. Thus, IMO, this one is serious. (And she happens to be awful cute).
A lot of places in the city do not take plastic. It is cash only.
Napoli took Beckett deep again!!!!
Napoli with his second HR of the game!
I don’t know what to expect from Varitek.
Scott Boras is his agent, so that always makes things interesting.
As far I know the Sox have no catcher waiting in the wings to be the starting catcher, so I think the Sox will genuinely try to sign Tek to at least a couple years.
And Napoli……..I’m starting to really dislike you…lol
This question is probably extremely un-PC, but does anyone ever remember seeing Jeter with a woman who was black? And don’t say Mariah because she doesn’t count. He seems to prefer white or almost white women.
And the sound of “Taps” start wafting over the “Green Monster”.
“And Napoli……..I’m starting to really dislike you…lol”
I’m 100% sure that Beckett doesn’t like him either.
Hughes does remind me of Steve Karsay
Mikey “Effin’” Napoli.
May you be a prophet!1
CC doesn’t deserve A-Rod money, but I’d do 7 yrs/$175 mil ($25 mil/year). We don’t have to go higher than that because no team will approximate those numbers.
Where are those people who endlessly kept on telling me and Nick in SF that CC doesn’t want to come to NY ? Can I hear you now ?
“CC doesn’t deserve A-Rod money, but I’d do 7 yrs/$175 mil ($25 mil/year).”
I wouldn’t go that high. What is Santana getting? I’d give him what Santana has, but bump it up a couple of million.

“He seems to prefer white or almost white women.”
Beautiful don’t have a color.
Ex-Yankee (briefly) Brinkman RIP. I miss the pre-PED days when there was a place for guys like this in the majors:
CHICAGO (AP) — Eddie Brinkman, a
record-setting shortstop during a 15-year career
in the majors and a former high school teammate
of Pete Rose, has died. He was 66.
Brinkman died Tuesday in his hometown of
Cincinnati. The Chicago White Sox, for whom he
was a longtime coach and scout, held a moment of
silence for him before their AL Central
tiebreaker against Minnesota. The team did not
give a cause of death.
Brinkman made his big league debut at 19 in
1961 with the Washington Senators and played in
an era when shortstops were known for their
gloves, rather than their bats. The only two
times he hit over .240 came when Hall of Famer
Ted Williams personally worked with him.
“Steady Eddie†was traded to Detroit after the
1970 season in a deal that included Denny McLain.
Brinkman solidified his reputation as
“good-field, no-hit†more than ever in 1972, the
year he won his lone Gold Glove.
Brinkman batted just .203 with six home runs
and 49 RBIs for the AL East champion Tigers, but
set the league record for shortstops with 72
straight errorless games — a mark Cal Ripken
broke in 1990.
Brinkman’s glovework in 1972 earned him a
ninth-place finish in the AL MVP voting. No
Detroit player did better in the balloting that
championship year — Mickey Lolich, a 22-game
winner, came in 10th and Al Kaline, who hit .313,
was 24th.
Brinkman was an AL All-Star in 1973. The next
year, he set career highs with 14 home runs and
54 RBIs.
Batting eighth for most of his career,
Brinkman hit .224 with 60 home runs and 461 RBIs.
He spent most of his days with Washington and
Detroit, and split his last year with St. Louis,
Texas and the New York Yankees in 1975.
His best year with the bat came in 1969, when
he hit .266. That was Williams’ first year as
manager of the Senators, and the great slugger
made Brinkman his pet project.
Brinkman’s brother, Chuck, was a backup
catcher in the majors from 1969-74.
No no no no no this is too easy I want the big mouths who kept saying CC wants to play in LA he’s a west siyeeeeeee boy…. I want those those posters talking now. See any other night we speak CC there’s always a bunch of you he’s staying in the west coast 15 secs. after the first CC post ..I’m waiting.
Oh, so that was the play. Looked like that was Kendrick’s ball. Hunter was a bit too far away.

Santana got an extension of 6 years/$138 million that will be in effect from the 09 season on. That is $23 million a year. He is making $13 mil this year from his previous contract.
So it is not outlandish for CC to ask for $25 million a year at all, 2 million more than Santana. Especially when Santana was negotiating exclusively with NYM and still got $23 million.
Brandon -
you dont really like to be prove wrong, do you?
Brandon: mis primos me dijeron que CC deseo dejar en la leagua Nacional, y, si posible, en el oeste.
Cone was a big party guy? I had no idea. He doesn’t look like he parties. He struck me as more of a “home watching Star Trek episodes†kinda guy. Who knew?

When you put it that way, I see your point.
That also means that February (pitchers and catchers) is summer, right??
One of these years, I’d love to get to Tampa during spring training. Don’t see it happening this year, though, so far. Thank goodness they now televise many spring games.
Did you guys see that suit???? On the on-field announcer? Interesting.
I just read the post, above, about Eddie Brinkman passing.
I remember Eddie Brinkman as a great shortstop when I was growing up in the 60-early 70’s. He was the definition of good field-no hit. I remember when Ted Williams took him under his wing, made him choke up a lot on the bat, and made him more than an automatic out.
Sad to read.
“oh yes coney was a big partier, especially in his mets days

No, do tell.
Hold onto this lead Saunders
I love how Cash wants to avoid CC to conserve the Steinbrenners money as if it were his. Also he is against going after CC because he wants to stay with the “youth movement” does he not realize that CC is 28 years old and entering his prime?
“I love how Cash wants to avoid CC to conserve the Steinbrenners money as if it were his. Also he is against going after CC because he wants to stay with the “youth movement†does he not realize that CC is 28 years old and entering his prime?”
Where did Cashman say that?
The little pony is now 0-10 in the series. He’s looking like a Mini A-Rod.
“Also he is against going after CC because he wants to stay with the “youth movement†does he not realize that CC is 28 years old and entering his prime?”
Aren’t you putting words into his mouth? I have yet to hear Cash say that he wasn’t going after CC for any reason. I did hear him say that the fans shouldn’t assume that the Yankees are going to sign the players that they want.

This question is probably extremely un-PC, but does anyone ever remember seeing Jeter with a woman who was black? And don’t say Mariah because she doesn’t count. He seems to prefer white or almost white women.

Forgive me if I’m missing something, but just where is this great Anaheim bullpen that I’ve heard and seen so much about?
The Coney/ Shea Stadium bullpen story?
Coney allegedly warmed up something other than his arm, if you get my drift, in front of a few women in the Shea bullpen. Allegedly.

haha yea laura after i heard i could never look at him/listen to him the same way
there was a lawsuit, not sure what the end result was though
“Three women had filed a $8.1 million sexual harassment lawsuit against Cone, claiming he exposed himself to them while he was in the bullpen during a 1989 game at Shea. The incident was the lowest and most embarrassing moment of his career. Cone later join the production company Rocco’s Jobbers.”

Rumor has it that NYY is trading Edwar Ramirez straight up for Jeff Keppinger.
romine is going to be a stud.
Ah, he adds an “n” in there somewhere, huh? “Arrendando?”
also dlowe=bad news
from wikipedia:On August 3, 2005 FSN West in Los Angeles announced that “Dodger Dugout” anchor Carolyn Hughes had been suspended pending an investigation into a potential relationship between her and Lowe. Shortly thereafter, the pitcher filed for divorce from his wife of seven years, Trinka Lowe, by whom he fathered two children. Hughes’ husband had also filed for divorce and, as of early 2006, Lowe and Hughes were living together.
i dont want to see him in pinstripes, not because of his alleged ways, but because he is too old and the al east is almost the exact opposite of the nl west; i cant see him succeeding here anymore
GB: Keppinger? Are you serious or is there a joke that I’m missing because I’m exhausted and am taking everything at face value?
Cashman did tell fans to temper their expectations about the FA market, that obviously pertains to CC.
Cashman has said numerous times he wants to stay away from long term contracts for pitchers and develop his own. Aside from Hank, there has been no noise about us getting CC.
Cashman will go after him, I don’t think there’s any question, but if you read between the lines in his recent interviews, he isin’t going to go ‘all out’ to get him. And that alone diminishes our chances of landing him. He isin’t going to come here if he gets a comparable offer from a WC team. The Brewers owner even said he is willing to go over $100 million. Unless you are willing to go all out, he isin’t coming here. And from the sounds of it, Cashman won’t.
Rumor has it that NYY is trading Edwar Ramirez straight up for Jeff Keppinger.

Brandon & Rebecca –
I think GB is just joking. lol
Somebody will way overpay for CC.
Unless Cashman deviates from his recent approach and from his own words, I doubt there will be an aggressive effort from him to get CC.
It’s a shame too because now it looks like he is backing away from the mythical “West Coast” stance.
I want a source GB because that would be a steal for NYY, Keppinger is the quick essential uty player and dangerous 2 strike hitter and can hit in PH role and w/ RISP bares down ala Mike Lowell.
ive said all along, cashman wants to run the yankees like a small market team. he isin’t giving CC $150+ million or more than 6 years. some team will overpay for him and that won’t be cashman.
if only george had the mental capacity to realize with his sons are turning his franchise into.

I really am starting to regret the Yanks extending this clown. This team NEEDS an established Ace type starter unless he can guarantee a trade for Peavy he needs to go after CC. If Cashmans big haul for this offseason is Oliver Perez/Ryan Dempster he should be relieved of his duties.

Trust me, Brandon, I’d never do that.
GB: Well, do you have a source?
Because, that’s seriously a trade I’d do.
Cashman is a total idiot if he thinks having good draft classes will lead to a winning ball-club. The players drafted in the past 2 years will not even see the majors til at least 2010 so this whole small market thing will lead to his firing. We are the New York Yankees not the A’s, not the Royals, not the Twins. I am irritated by Yanks brass for bringing this idiot back.
Edwar for Keppinger
Nady and Marte for Tabata
Rasner for Jody Guret
Eric Duncan for Eric Theets
Aceves and Albaladejo for Lastings Milledge
Kennedy for Saltalamacchia

At least I put a smile on your face, if only for a little while, Brandon. actually, though, I’d prefer Maicer Izturis over Keppinger, though, or, any other utility player.
I don’t think you can go by what a team/owner says they are going to do for public consumption, and what they really intend to do behind closed doors.
It’s one thing to say we’re going to do this and that, to placate your fans, and another to actually go to an agent and put up that same figure.

Al,
I’m not sure if its Cashman as much it is that idiot Hal. There was an article from Newsday earlier in the week saying Hal told him he could only afford Pettitte or Santana, not both, thats why the Santana trade didn’t get made.
If thats true, it looks like Cashman now has to adhere to a budget. I think this is why Hank was even put in charge– to keep his brother on his toes if he tries to get too conservative. Lets hope Hank has enough influence this off-season.

GB: You could totally call into Francesa with that one.
And then Cashman will be driving home and he’ll hear it and say “hey, that’s a good idea”
And then he’ll pull the trigger!
Regarding CC-Based on his comments, I am sure Cashman will go hard after him (showing him the money and candy), but he was kinda reminding us..ya know..CC could go elsewhere for money and junk food….nothing is guaranteed.
Cashman is a total moron who failed at securing quality free agents. So now he is attempting to build a farm system to atone for his failures on the open market. Unfortunately for him a robust farm rarely results in big club success. He thinks that names like Hughes, IPK(lol), Melancon will cover up the stink of Pavano, Igawa and Hawkins.

Ed, I was just trying to keep in practice. I used to work with PsyOps from time to time and this was some of the things we did. Start rumors to gain their confidence or destroy it.
This is where Hank needs to get involved somehow… we cannot lose out on CC under any circumstances if he wants to come here.
Cashman will find a way to screw this up somehow. He would rather have Derek Lowe and PEDitte back.
“Cashman did tell fans to temper their expectations about the FA market, that obviously pertains to CC”
That’s Cashman playing the CYA game. Heading into the season Cashman didn’t do that with Hughes and Kennedy. He just doesn’t want to explain himself to angry Yankee fans.
Ed, I don’t think PA is too happy with me. Maybe I’ll just call Uncle George and mention it to him. I just hope he remembers it when he’s watching cartoons.
“Al,

Yeah, because the Steinbrenners are hurting for money. Gee whiz. I really hope this isn’t true. Hal should take some notes from his Dad and realize that putting a winning product on the field is what makes the Yankees so much money. If several seasons of mediocrity are something the Yankees can afford then by all means “build from within”.
Jeff Keppinger is a nice player. Be a good/great bench guy.

Giants kicked butt. Mike’d Up should be filled with lots of Giants love tonight.
T.O. was supposedly crying again. Literally, on the sidelines during the cowboys game. That man has issues.
Redskins look like they got their **** together
GB 7 –
oh yeah, thanks for reminding me. but you didn’t mean no harm no fault, so all should be forgotten.
Does anyone know if Melky has an option left?
I think teams know now when they come to Giant Stadium both NY football teams can whoop your ass.
I originally was resigned to not getting CC (and focusing on Burnett or Peavy via trade) because there was too much smoke about him wanting to go only West but now that he dispelled that notion, I will be furious if we miss out on him.
The ONLY thing that should stop us from getting CC is his unwillingness to come to NY. If he is, then there are no excuses.
“So who watched my Giants play tecmo Superbowl today vs Seattle’s D”
They going to the Superbowl again this year. Yes I said it. Best team in football.
Francessa will not talk football, he will spend the entire show tonight and tomorrow talking about Torre.
Some scrub named Sin -o – rice IDK supposively he’s a football player finally got 2 TDs today.
Imagine adding Moss and Hixon to an offense with Burress, Toomer, and Smith? Wow!
Hixon NEEDS a larger roll, the guy is a HR hitter.
I’m actually kind of glad we have all these easy games early on and in consecutive weeks… gives us plenty of time to prepare for the big dogs this winter and try out new things and let the young guys get acclimated to their roles.

Jeff Keppinger is a nice player. Be a good/great bench guy.
______________________________________________________
Yeah, he’s one of 3 or 4 really good utility players I’d like to see for NYY. Keppinger, Maicer Izturis, Alex Cora or Amezaga from Florida. Ideally, though not likely, I’d prefer Mark DeRosa…this era’s version of Randy Velarde.
Brandon it’s about time they gave him a chance. Some fans calling him a bust and when Seattle was looking for receivers couple of weeks ago the Giants offered Moss and they said no.
He just needed playing time.
There’s a lot of irrational talk tonight about this CC situation.
You guys think you’ve got Cashman all figured out don’t you?
You know the Yankees won’t sign a blank check. What’s the point that even the “gotta have CC” fanatic won’t cross?
We take our best offensive player out of the lineup and score 44 points. We lose Osi, Strahan, Wilson, Mitchell, and Torbor from the defense and are as fierce as ever… not showing up in the stat sheet as much, but we are dominating.
The depth on this team is just insane.
Is OK-jima the second greatest reliever of all-time? (The greatest being Mo, of course.)
You realize there is a player called Mario Manningham and another one on the practice squad called Marcus Monk who is learning to utilize he freakish ability.
I just wish people would remember that as the Free Agent, Sabathia has the final say in where he goes. He may be willing to listen to NYY, and he may be willing to play in NYC, but it doesn’t mean NY is his first choice; it doesn’t take away from the possibility that there are other considerations besides money. I will continue to think that when the numbers of dollars are as ridiculously high as they are these days for these players, what difference does it make if the offer is 120 mil or 140 mil? Both numbers pretty much set your family tree up for generations. So it comes down to other things. As Yankees fans we have to hope that the “other things” that the Yankees can offer are more enticing than the “other things” that other teams have to offer. NYY can no longer offer a yearly trip to the post-season/WS.
““So who watched my Giants play tecmo Superbowl today vs Seattle’s Dâ€
They going to the Superbowl again this year. Yes I said it. Best team in football.”
Redskins, Rams, Bengals, Seahwaks. The Giants are good but still haven’t played a good team yet(with the possible exception of the skins). Admittedly my Jets are inferior however we lost to the Pats and the Chargers in SD.
Cashman giving out a 7 year/$160 million dollar deal?
I’ll believe it when I see it.
which team do i hate more. Difficult to choose.
Well, you know the A-Holes will score this inning
I hate Bonjovi. 10 years or so I ago I worked at a drycleaners. One night In comes Bonjovi looking for a pair of lavender leather pants. We didn’t have them. He gets all indgnate at me and starts the whole “do you know who I am spiel” for about 10 minutes or so. He finally calls his assistant and finds out he’s at the wrong place. Instead of saying sorry he says “thanks for wasting my time”.
Springsteen, on the other hand, is pure class.
Trevor that kid pisses me off more than any Giant reciever, w/ him is IQ and stamina. He was suppose to be a gamebreaker 2 yrs. ago ! and he kept getting hurt ! That’s why I refer to him as some scrub until he show it consitantly, all I know is that the guy has a talented brother in the NFL him I couldn’t pick out of police lineup even if he had a name tag.
vinny-
You kiddin’? What’s hard to choose about what team to dislike more?
ER- What are u smokin?
Eagles are starting to fade. Giants don’t play anyone outside the division who is considered a ‘good’ team. Maybe Pittsburgh— can only play who is on the schedule. We only beat one team with a winning record in the regular season last year too, but we won the SB.
“The Giants are good but still haven’t played a good team yet”
Bitter Jet fan I see. They don’t have to prove they could be a good team. They have already proven that. Admit it they’re legit.

I just wish people would remember that as the Free Agent, Sabathia has the final say in where he goes.
You know if that happens some fans will call for Cashman’s head for not kidnapping CC and forcing him to play for the Yankees.
I can see it now..
Who will be the first team to beat the Giants this year?
buddy biancolana:
I hate the angles, every bit as much as boston.
prolly pick the angels to win today. Would prefer Tampa to play a tired boston team – unlikely.
“There’s a lot of irrational talk tonight about this CC situation.

You know the Yankees won’t sign a blank check. What’s the point that even the “gotta have CC†fanatic won’t cross?”
They won’t sign a blank check but they should. The Yankees haven’t needed an FA this bad since maybe Tino or Mussina. The Yankees really didn’t NEED Giambi, they didn’t NEED A-Rod, they didn’t NEED Kevin Brown. They NEED CC its not a want or desire he is the only front-line starter on the market and will not see a starter of his quality available until after 2010! So unless they see every pitcher in the farm system becoming an Ace they must get CC.
Jacoby Ellsbury
I also hope people remember how much they wanted CC if in fact the Yankees do get him and he stinks.
*Not that I’m saying he will stink. But it’s happened before that the Yankees have gotten pitchers who were supposed to be good and then they weren’t.
OT
Another Tina Fey must see for anyone who missed it.

Al -
That’s an interesting perspective. Hadn’t thought of it like that – need versus want. So this time, it wouldn’t be stockpiling, which is greedy and for which the baseball gods apparently punish you. This would be stocking the shelves, which is thrifty and we assume the baseball gods would sanction such a move.
I have no problem if CC goes elsewhere– infact, I’m kind of expecting him to.
But we need to be the highest bidder for him. Force him to walk away from the money. Don’t just make a token 6 yr/$120 mil dollar offer just for show. Make your best effort to sign him.
I agree with Al.
They can’t screw around with Sabathia. The reason why this team hasn’t been a contender in 8 years is because of no front end starter who can dominate a short series. Sabathia can do that, as shown by throwing 4 games in a row on 3 days rest. Wang tried to do it once and failed.
Letting Sabathia go would probably set this team back a good 5 years. If we don’t get Sabathia, I think this season will be the tip of the iceberg of agony for Yankee fans. The nucleus of position players will have aged too much and we’ll have to start at square one.
Doreen,
You’ve got a point. That’s why a Zito size contract is scary. Not that CC will all of a sudden forget how to pitch, but he won’t repeat this season’s work for the next 7 years.
A lot of teams wanted Pavano, too. Didn’t he have a clean injury history BEFORE he came to the Yankees?
It’s pretty much a crap shoot and you can protect yourself by going with fewer years.
It’s amazing that Moose pitched his whole contract. Plus and extension. Amazing.
mel -
Moose is a rare breed.
Shields will probably turn into marshmallows against these A-Holes, too.
Come on Angels.

““The Giants are good but still haven’t played a good team yetâ€
Bitter Jet fan I see. They don’t have to prove they could be a good team. They have already proven that. Admit it they’re legit.”
What exactly am I bitter about? Maybe the fact that my team doesn’t play in the cupcake NFC but thats about it. The Giants are the champs I cannot take that away from them and I thoroughly enjoyed your boys beating up on my arch nemesis in the SB, so this notion of me being bitter is a bit absurd. I just wonder what will happen when you have to play against a quality offense or superior defense the first 4 teams you’ve played this year have neither.
I’m a Jets fan that addmits the Giants are a legit team.
I also can’t believe the Sox and Angels are still going. At least the Angels have the grace to make it close.
“A lot of teams wanted Pavano, too. Didn’t he have a clean injury history BEFORE he came to the Yankees?”
No, he didn’t.

If he has a good sense of humor and a thick skin, he’ll be sure to have some great laughs just reading them. It’s actually been 5 years since we were a contender. Last was 2004. All downhill from there, got progresively worse each year.
2004 – last time in ALCS
2005 – hard fought ALDS to LAA– last time we showed any guts in the playoffs
2006 – lose an awful series to Detroit. not a person in America thought we’d lose that series
2007 – No division title. Aside from Hughes’ 3 innings, we played an awful series. Pitching, hitting, Joba and the bugs.
2008 – 3rd place, no playoffs.
I think that Cashman’s way of thinking is flawed. Of course a great farm system is something that can breed big league success. However teams that really plan on going deep into October supplement a great farm system with occasional free agent signings. Doing only one of those things will not bring success. Look at the playoff teams this year. The Sox even though I hate them have a great farm system that produces quality arms and decent position players IE Lester, Pedroia, Lowrie, however they also know when to get the big fish. 2 years ago they grossly overpaid for Dice-K’s posting fee to insure that they would land “the guy”, they also did the same for JD Drew who has been decent. The Angels have a great farm system however they still picked up Torii Hunter and Jon Garland both of whom have done a fine job. The key to success is mixing home-grown talent with acquired talent. This is one of those times where you have to get the “big fish” in order to insure future success.
that team is so lucky, whenever they play in that rat’s nest. And whenever they play the angels.

You must have forgotten: World Series or Bust. No World Series means the year didn’t count; ergo – they didn’t contend.
____________________________________________________
Only the entitled see it that way. We apologists feel that they did their best and since I’m an apologist and a conspiracy theorist, I have it all covered. I know MLB and the umpires screwed us out of 6 more titles.
Vlad is a playoff disaster. Sheffield did more in the playoffs than he ever has.
“I really am starting to regret the Yanks extending this clown. This team NEEDS an established Ace type starter unless he can guarantee a trade for Peavy he needs to go after CC.”
How can you support a trade for Peavy which will require 10X the package that we needed for Santana?
Peavy has a reasonable contract for several years and hasn’t been nearly as good as Santana has over his career, not to mention he pitches in a horrible division.
We need an ace, and if we don’t get Sabathia this team is screwed.
Ahh looks like Alex has almost removed that frosting job from his hair, lol.
Brandon,
Seriously. You’re a man on an island with this Tex thing.
“Brandon (THE METS BULLPEN IS GANSTA !)…”Keep Manny away !
October 5th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
That’s right he hits a single w/ nobody on, meanwhile FC w/ RISP and has 3 LOB tonight, that’s why he deserves that 17 -22 million.”
word.
There have been a number of posts about Peavy. Is there any indication from San Diego that they are willing to deal him?
I feel like I’m guilty of some terrible crime because I don’t expect the Yankees to win the World Series every year.
I want them to and i expect the Yankees to be competitive, but I’m not gonna throw a hissy fit if they don’t win the World Series.
Mostly because I did that once and it wasn’t any fun.
Do people know what contending means?
I don’t understand how getting to the playoffs every year from, what 1995? qualifies for not being in contention . Even this year, one could (but would be foolish to) make the argument that they were in “contention” until the last week of September.
If you mean they haven’t made serious in-roads once they got to the playoffs, you really can’t say that until 2005. 2004 was a disaster, but at least they were in the NLCS – contending for the League championship.
Now, the Baltimore Orioles are a team that hasn’t contended in a really long time. Seriously.
Okay, you and vinny-b.
Rebecca,
Throwing hissy fits is dangerous. See: Bradley, Hunter, Kevin Brown, et al.
There is no alternative for Sabathia.
Either him or another year of Hughes/IPK. Lowe is a disaster waiting to happen. Burnett is another Pavano.
If all he wants is money— give it to him. If he walks away regardless, more power to him. Atleast go down swinging, don’t get conservative and let some other team outbid us.
Rebecca
We are partners in crime!
Shucks!!!!!
Tori Hunter has not been impressive in this game.
Oh my aching back. Mama mia Torii Hunter.
can someone please tell Hunter he is no Brett Gardner!
I would love to see Hughes or Kennedy pull off a Danks like performance
what a dope.
Tori doing his Vlad imitation.
Man….The angels have played some strange baseball this series.
Here ray:
Whom would you rather have? CC Sabathia for six years and $150 million? Or Jake Peavy for four years and $63 million?
The Padres, coming off a 63-99 season, will at least explore a Peavy trade, general manager Kevin Towers confirmed to Newsday. ESPN’s Buster Olney first reported that possibility this past week.
The Yankees are among the teams with prospects that interest the Padres, although it’s not clear whether Peavy would waive his no-trade clause to come to the Bronx.
“Coming off 99 losses, we’re going to a little bit of a younger core club,” Towers said Friday in a telephone interview. “I guess it’s worth at least exploring to see what he would bring back.”
Towers said he hasn’t yet initiated trade discussions.
Rather, much as Cleveland’s Mark Shapiro did when preparing to deal Sabathia, Towers is targeting teams with young talent that interests him; it’s hard to see the Mets having enough. The price figures to be immense, although the Padres’ financial health is unclear because of the divorce proceedings of owner John Moores.
Peavy, 27, will make $11 million in 2009, $15 million in 2010, $16 million in 2011 and $17 million in 2012. He has a $22-million team option for 2013 with a $4-million buyout.

Seriously. You’re a man on an island with this Tex thing.
No I’m not alone this not really.
What’s sad is Joe Saunders was so far superior to hayseed Beckett it isn’t funny, but his fielders are the reason there’s even a sux score in this game.
lol Typical Hunter
Thats why he has never won anything, ditto Vlad.
angles attempting their best impersonation of the cubs.
Tori doing his Vlad imitation.
He’s running on one leg he should have known better.
Thank you S.A.!
I’d rather have CC and Hughes than just Peavy.
“I would love to see Hughes or Kennedy pull off a Danks like performance”
I would love to see Hughes pull off a Danks like performance.
Cash cant be stupid here with CC.
He needs to be the initiator here. None of this, let the other teams make their offers and roll out the red carpet for him.
This is the kind of guy you build a rotation around. I dont think its a big deal either that he has pitched around 580 innings over the last 2 years. He is a guy like Wells, with a rubber arm.
Think about having a dominating lefty in Yankee Stadium-When is the last time we had that?

no problem!

Really ? I thought it was Joe Nathan and Alex Rodriguez. And Vlad has been alone for how long ?
Kennedy can’t even be as good as Paul Byrd, let alone Danks.
Can anyone beat the Sux in the playoffs. It seems like the past 4 years every team(except for the 05 W/sox) has seemed to just lay down and die for the Sux.
mel: Indeed, my algebra tests from that year illustrate this principle quite well.
So how’s this game going to end? Walk-off? Or extras and then a walk-off?
Who hits the walkoff?
I say Varitek
“Do people know what contending means?”
When you’ve got a 200M payroll and unlimited resources and get thrown out in the first round, you aren’t a contender.
Do the Angels leave Shields in or bring in K-Rod already?
Man, the Angels have blown so many opportunities. Lester was excellent in Game 1, but Matsuzaka was lousy and so was Beckett and they still can’t capitalize.
Partrick -
That’s just not true. Money does not guarantee a WS. People play the game, not greenbacks.

Possibly Wells or Pettitte circa 1998 were the last time we had a dominant lefty in YS(im not bringing up randy johnson).
Maybe Hank can offer a few of his horses (four legged types) to help sweeten the pot, add some money and young players in separate deals and tie Gonzales to the deal for Peavy.
“Cash cant be stupid here with CC.
He needs to be the initiator here. None of this, let the other teams make their offers and roll out the red carpet for him.”
Cashman shouldn’t be the initiator. The players have to reach out to CC. Make him feel welcome and wanted and tell him that even though there is no candy in the clubhouse that they have a private stash somewhere.
wow Hunter caught that ball. almost as if hes a baseball player. good for him.
1 more Shields
Great job by Scott Shields.
I liked Crisp better when he sucked.
“Maybe Hank can offer a few of his horses (four legged types) to help sweeten the pot, add some money and young players in separate deals and tie Gonzales to the deal for Peavy.”
CC
Peavy
Wang
Joba
Hughes:)
Boston has 10 baserunners and 4 runs
Red Sox have 16 baserunners and 4 runs.
Patrick,
CC kinda looks like a guy you would name a candy bar after, doesnt he?
“Partrick -

I don’t agree with you. When you have the most money in the league, you can buy everything from free agents to farm hands. The problem with our team is that our GM picks the wrong players both on the major league and minor league level. He’s a poor talent evaluator.
Shields only at 28 pitches.
Leave him in there until he gets a lead. Do they even have anyone in the pen left not named K-Rod?

Kevin Bass may have had it too.
Who will hit the walk-off for the S*x ? Jas*n B*y, the MVP ?
“Boston has 10 baserunners and 4 runs
Red Sox have 16 baserunners and 4 runs.”
yeh… what?
Steve Trout would not have.
Patrick -
You can buy whatever you want – you can get all the best players on one team, okay. But you can’t make them hit or run or pitch or catch or throw to perfection. You can hope that they will, and the probability is that they will; but the possibility always exists that they won’t for whatever reason.
I would suggest that the Yankees have spent the money and HAVE gotten to the playoffs. So the team they put together has been able to win the games to get to the playoffs. in some of the seasons they have even overcome injuries (Matsui, Sheffield, for example) and poor starts to get to the playoffs. Who would expect that a team that can win 97 games could all of a sudden lose all their talent and ability?
Look at the Angels here. They won 100 games this season. They are supposedly a fundamentally sound team. Arte Moreno went out and got Teixeira. And they are looking like a bunch of duds here.
It’s not a video game. It’s not fantasy baseball. It’s human beings.
So, um, anyone watching the Angels game?
Would have loved it if the Angels showed this kindd of fight in Game 1 or Game 2…
Man I cant stand Papelbon
I didn’t watch the last game. This game has been more background noise than anything.
Angels did show fight in game 2, rallying from 4 runs down.
But K-Rod ended those dreams.
I caught a snippet of this game on the radio on the way home from the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park. ESPN analyst Dan Campbell said that K-Rod is “not nearly the same pitcher when he comes into a tie game.” Must be another statistical anomoly!
I just realized Figgins is a FA after this yr.
Patrick -
Then your argument is really that they’ve not spent their money well. That’s a different argument.
I disagaree, as I’ve written above, since I think they teams they assembled have been able to get where they needed to be – in the playoffs. I do not understand why people who can perform over the course of 162 games all of a sudden aren’t able to play well in the post season.
With this exception: The pitching. Has not been there since 2003. And no one they’ve brought in has been able to do what was needed. Except Wang, and he wasn’t a free agent, and he’s not costing them any money. So it’s not the money.
Is he really? I would LOVE to sign Figgins to play CF
Haha. Craig Sager just said, “Little Dustin Pedroia.” Naughty man.
Trisha –
Background noise, indeed!
I almost don’t want to watch the bottom of this inning. I have my finger right next to the remote, so as not to witness any painful happiness up in New England.
Chone Figgins inf

1 year/$0.32M (2004), re-signed 2/04

ML service: 4.145
Anyone believe that if more of our players would point to the sky and thank God we could win more games?
figgins is not a FA i believe…i think hes got 1 more year of arbitration..
Danks never pitched for the Rangers. He was traded to the White Sox before making his ML debut. He lost 13 for the White Sox last year.
Doreen, I am almost baseballed out already. Maybe because I’ve watched a lot more postseason baseball than I ever did when the Yanks were in it, these games are almost boring to me at this point. The Angels have done a nice job tonight. I hope they win. If they don’t, eh. I have confidence in the Rays and the Phillies to do what the Angels couldn’t.
Didn’t he have Ortiz 0-2?
Trisha -
Yes, the Rays and the Phillies. Yes.
Except for not want this Boston team to go anywhere, I don’t really care all that much who wins.
KRod has a very hurly-burly delivery. I never really noticed it before. And a strange set-up before his windup. Hmm.
this is taking forever
There ya go.
Damn you KRod
why did Hunter let that drop? he could have caught it. at least dive for it.
If K-Rod blows this I will be sad.
We’re almost out of our misery here, I think.
Look at that stack of 100s. That must be some life he lives.
So far he looks like he would be perfect for the Mets.
i think k-rod will be a better set up man than a closer
Or deeper into it, depending on the long or short-term view.
He’s going to throw a walkoff pretty soon.
at least Bay isn’t going to be the hero.
Why would Hunter dive for that? It gets passed him and bye bye Angels.
He’s about to blow this one. Even if it’s not this inning.
This clown wants Mo-like money? It almost never seems easy when K-Rod pitches.
“Except for not want this Boston team to go anywhere, I don’t really care all that much who wins.”
Seriously I feel the same way. It will be a feel good if the Angels prevail. If not, we know the best is yet to come.
This shows you how K-Rod is not near Mariano’s level.
This shows you how K-Rod is not near Mariano’s level.
He’s so going to blow this.
Should be called out for tossing the bat.
K-Rod is just feeling the effects of abuse just like CC
Wow, already commercials for the radio city christmas spectacular.
X-mas is a comin
Mike’d up next. Torre love, maybe some Giants talk
LOL @ Lowell
SA,
I was just thinking that. Early October and already Christmas promotions.
He’s thrown a lot of pitches. Even he does get out of it and some how the Angles score. You can’t feel comfortable next inning.
that was a K….omg…

Thinking back to the days of Jim Bouton and Goose Gossage.
damn i see a walk off walk here or the sox score on a wild pitch
Lowell could barely walk. Go right after him for god’s sake.
The replay showed it just outside.
SA –
what channel are you watching to get those commericals? lol
Ray –
oh okay thanks.
A walk is comin here.
He is so going to blow this.
Walk in the series winning run????
this is gonna be a line drive walkoff or a BB
Lowry will pop up. Or something.
Anyway, want to be a closer anyone? I would have passed out cold on the mound.
I know it was very close Ed.
“K-Rod is just feeling the effects of abuse just like CC”
Abuse? He threw less innings than Mariano, and he’s 13 years younger. He’s just a choke artist.
Ed-WNBC 4NY
Oh this is scary K-Rod
Or, you know, not.
oh crap, they made it out alive.
HA HA HA HA HA!
Psyche all you nonbelievers.
Ohh it should have been over !
What is K-Rod excited for?
That was lucky.
So they live for another inning.
Wow, K-Rod is an animal. But that was impressive I’ll admit. Come on Halos score a darn run once in a while.
SA -
watching the news, huh? the only time i would watch CH4 is when SNL is on. lol
He got out of it. Wow
Damn the repeat of Bridezillas comes on at 12. I figured this game would be long over.
K-Rod threw 33 pitches, no 2 inning save for him
Jon Garland to try and get the save?
Pitch to Lowell was as close as you could ever find one to the zone, crazy how he layed off and also crazy how the ump didn’t ring him up.
Angels have to score here.
We need an Angel homer. I don’t know if we’re going to get it. Otherwise it gets too dragged out.
K-Rod and Lidge make it tough but they get the job done.
Remember when GA was clutch ?
I usually like listening to Buck Martinez on XM, but I’m not really crazy about listening to him tonight.
Doreen,
LOL. Do you mean herky jerky?
That’s only against the Yankees, brandon. He realized he was playing the Red Sox and promptly forget how to hit.
mel -
Herky-jerky, hurly-burly – whatever.
So the camera man was just hanging around the restaurant where A-Rod ate, hoping he would do something stupid like wipe his chin with a $100 dollar bill?
This is what our taxes are going towards?
Tex is showing up well in this series. Maybe not Boras-contract well, but still.
Please please please let them get something from this
He’s such a disiplined hitter,,,great eye
15 hits and 4 runs. So, the Yankees are in the playoffs and we weren’t told?
A wild pitch would put the lead run at third and then a fly out could bring it home.
Just sayin’
Man, these Angels are so not clutch!
Or not!
GRRR!
Damn. Hunter was just no match for Papelbon. It had to be Vlad or Tex.
If Joe Torre was managing these Angels, they would have scored that 5th run by now. You know it’s true.
Can the HGH boy deliver?
Have the yanks signed Tex and CC yet?! lol
So where are all these manufactured runs the Angels are so famous for?
At least we’re all seeing it’s not just our Yankees who experience hard times.
Jered Weaver?
This might not be pretty.
Jered Weaver time
Come on Sox, score on Goldilocks.
I wish I could just shut the television and go to sleep, but I feel too invested in this game right now. And I had a cup of caffeine earlier. ;(
Just like Jeff Weaver ended the 2003 season in the 12th inning against FLA
his brother will end the Angels’ season in the 11th inning
God, Jered Weaver. Has the same sad sack look that his brother does. This is not good.
For some reason I don’t feel great seeing a Weaver pitching in relief in a playoff game…
You know, this is when it really hits me that we are in postseason baseball. I always love seeing the starters make appearances at the end of big games.
“For some reason I don’t feel great seeing a Weaver pitching in relief in a playoff game…”
Just keep repeating to yourself: Jered is not Jeff. Jered is not Jeff.
You go boy!
That last one was a bad call!
Kotsay is just a winning player, great pick up by Theo.
I wish Cashamn could identify pesky, winning players like that. Instead he gets us retreads like Ensberg, Betemit, Sexon etc.
It looked a lot closer in the replay than it did in the K-Zone. And maybe if Ellsbury hadn’t complained about the last one he wouldn’t have gotten rung up.
argh
I don’t want to see a Red Sox stealing a base in an October game ever again.
All that, and the Angels never had a shot to throw him out.
One of the slowest throws if I ever saw one fitting a Weaver is pitching.
I agree Clare that Ellsbury complaining about the earlier pitch that was clearly a strike did not help.
aww, couldn’t happen to an elfier guy.
This is a great game, BTW
Yet throwing the bat didn’t get Lowell penalized earlier…
I need to sleep, yet I also need to see how this ends.
Score some runs Angels
It actually is a great game, if you pull yourself back to be objective – but that’s not all that easy to do.
If Torii Hunter caught that fly ball way earlier, I’d be asleep (maybe) by now, though.
Is ESPN allowed to basically give play by play of the the games in progress on their bottom scroll? When someone grounds out there is a “score alert” sighting.
Doesn’t TBS prohibit that? I mean they can update scores but play by play? I remember Mike and the Mad Dog got in trouble for doing that during a Yankees day playoff games a few years ago.
Oh man, not Napoli again. lol
pete,
was looking for you on mike’d up but got feinsand and murti instead…not as big as them, huh?
Even if the Angels score, I don’t trust anybody in the pen to close the game. I don’t even trust K-Rod and Shields in this ballpark, let alone Weaver or Garland.
I need to go to sleep but this game won’t end!
Nap-tastic.
It’s the Mike Napoli show at Fenway but apparently no other Angels were invited.
Bunt to leave it up to Erick Aybar ugh prove me Erick.
Sox should use Aardasma or Byrd
Erick Aybar is their Brett Gardner right?
Or is that Reggie Wiltis?
Neither can get the ball out of the infield.
yes!
Yay!
omg the Angels scored…..
Thanks for proving me wrong.
Genius Scosia.
Okay. Good.
Ayyyyyyyyyyyyy-bar!
What a tremendous throw by Crisp lol.
Aybar. Wow. Of all the people.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And leave it to my countryman Mike Napoli to cross the plate!
another run for some padding would be good
Yea that throw by Crisp was hilarious.
Still I have zero trust in the rest of the Angels ‘pen so can we have another run please.
Bring Lackey in relief to pitch the bottom of the 12th
Do not test your luck with Weaver, he gave you one good inning, take it and move on.
Need to tack on another. Got the heart of the order coming up.
The Angels didn’t really patent going from first to third.
Come on Tex. Three run blast.
That’s why Tex is overrated. He has an oppurtunity to blow the game open and he failed. Do we really need more players like him on the team, for $22 million?
Spend the money elsewhere.
Weaver vs. Ortiz – jeez, Ortiz kills the whole Weaver family
Geeze, with those odds why ever wouldn’t Scoscia put another pitcher in?
Anyway, please GO ANGELS and wrap this up. I AM TIRED!!!
Jeff Weaver trying to protect a 1 run lead against the heart of the order in Fenway?
Good luck
Yeah, that’s why Tex is overrated. Good point.
Gotta be kidding me, leadoff walk trying to close it out. Come on please don’t be stupid.
God, that was predictable. The Weaver curse.
Oy. Angels, can you please get three outs before giving up a run? I’ve got to go to sleep!!
This is torture. I hate the Weavers.
Just missed? These guys are reminding me of John Sterling. They get hyper-excited over every fly ball hit by a Red Sox guy. Not even warning track that one was.
This is torture. I hate the Weavers.
This is so true, I’m waiting for him to hang one like his brother.
I pointed out, and the post got lost in the ether, that I would have preferred Weaver to walk F’Ortiz than give him something to swing on with a 3-2 count due to his record against him.
It’s looking pretty good at this point, but one never knows…
Perfect pitch.
G’nite everyone!
pesky little rat.
And the Angels live to see another day!
OMG…the Angels won!!
There we go, see ya later tonight Sux.
That was slick! Hope is still alive in the Free World!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Angels broke their postseason Sux curse. Perhaps now things will turn around completely.
Sweet dreams everyone. You too Ray, ha ha ha.
And one Weaver boy atoned for the other. GOOD ON YA JERED.
Well maybe it is appropriate that it went 12 innings. That is the first time the Angels have beat the Sox in 12 postseason games.
They were due. Lester tomorrow!
Good night Trisha….
Awwww, disappointment in the eyes of the five-hour fenway crowd, as they file out with the thought of fighting each other in the parking lot lines.
Life is good.
Angels have no bullpen tomorrow
Arredondo – 2 innings
Shields – 2.1 innings
K-Rod – 33 pitches
Can Lackey throw 8 strong?
who goes for the Angels tomorrow?
oh Lackey..
Hey wait a second! I thought Beckett was the best post-season pitcher of all time and didn’t ever give up runs or anything. How can this be?
Chip Carey was awful
Oh John? Someone is asking you to defend your earlier position about Beckett being the best potseason pitcher and the 4-0 score and whatever else you predicted?
I leave you to do that.
Night!
Boston has to be worried, losing Beckett’s game. these 5-game series change momentum so quickly.
trisha- Maybe he followed your advice and went to SOSH and is there agonizing with the rest of the Sox fans as we speak lol
Angels winning tonight.
Laura – The Cubs suck!

CC doesn’t deserve A-Rod money, but I’d do 7 yrs/$175 mil ($25 mil/year). We don’t have to go higher than that because no team will approximate those numbers.
you are out of you’re mind.
you wan’t to pay him more than santanna?
he is not as good and 7 yrs is too much.
less yrs more per year,he can’t have both.
5 yrs/125 million or 7 yrs/140 million.
Alfred E., something makes me think that John’s plane is always circling here…
See you for the next exciting installment!
GO ANGELS!
Are we really going to compare John Danks to phil hughes and Ian Kennedy?
When is Pete going to get over his obsession with A-rod’s money?
I’d like to punch A-Rod in the face with a $100 set of brass knuckles.
