You may have heard of Bobby Barad, an agent who represents several big leaguers including Robinson Cano. He has an interesting project on the side.

Bobby has created The Sportys DVD. It’s a cartoon for kids designed to teach them how to play and appreciate baseball. Along with the cartoon, there is an instructional segment for parents featuring Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long.

Bobby got an All-Star team of animators together to work on the project. One of the characters, a baseball named Stitch, is voiced by the actor Michael Clarke Duncan. There’s a story in the paper today about the project.

I had a chance to see the DVD earlier this week and it was good. If you have kids you want to teach baseball to, this would really help you. I’m going to get one for my nephew.

There are two ways to order the DVD:

* Go to thesportys.com

* Or call (800) 420-7545.

If you have comments for Bobby, you can e-mail him.

Thanks for the heads up Pete. That’s one I’ll have to look into.

I was 10 years old and I begged my Mom to let me skip school to watch my Yankees and Don Larsen pitch that day. My Mom agreed, knowing how much it meant to me. I was rewarded in witnessing such a great feat. So besides Don Larsen, my Mom got the MVP Award. Most of my friends had to go to school.

I was at Yankee Stadium, the day Sandy Koufax waxed my Yankees. My Dad tried to cheer me on and said, that I was witnessing one of the best and he was right. The series I was really sick was the 1960 series against the Pirates….Ahggg to this day it still haunts me. Went to one game at the Stadium where Bobby Richardson was on fire and Yankees blew on the Pirates throughout the series, but lost that final game. At least the Yankees always showed some fire…Those were the days….my friends….

    cash that check, kid.

“Maybe he can show this to Cano?”
    does it teach concentration!
we need to but him in right feild nent season (i like the way he goes back and judges fly-balls, great arm, and he needs more time to react when he’s day dreaming.)

the Baseball Bunch was a great kids show from the 70s and early 80′s……Johnny Bench, Tommy Lasorda as the Wizard and the San Diego Chicken, lol

I think we need a separate running thread for the Trade Phil proposals. I simply can not believe how 99% of the people on this board want a 22 year old gone already – it really betrays a total lack of baseball knowledge, if not outright resentment against a kid who, through no fault of his own, was not traded for Santana. Even some of Phil’s former fans want him gone…..it’s like they turned on a dime. Sheesh. I love how when Phil pitches badly, it’s crisis mode and we have to hear what a bum he is. When he pitches well (like his last two starts in the bigs) and shows encouraging progress (except for the walks, which I chalk up to rust), almost nothing is said……..

Some of these same people want the Yankees to get Dontrelle Willis…………wow, just wow.

    From the website:

    “Not just another instructional video..”
    Robinson Cano,
    Major league baseball player

Maybe the problem is that Cano HAS been watching this video, following the learning curve of a 3-11 year old.

    Catch this?

Sportys will educate kids ages 3-11 on the fundamentals of baseball in a fun and entertaining way.

    “Not just another instructional video..”
    Robinson Cano,
    Major league baseball player

Looks like Cano has been watching it. :)

Oops apparently the person who posted 20 minutes before me caught it. :D

I have no problem with Joba cashing in on the Disney money or some sportsdrink. These young stars are essentially getting jacked by the teams they play for and you never know when an injury will occur and their career is over before their first big payday.

It’s when a vet making 20 million sells his image to the higher bidder that it starts to bother me.

And whoever directed Joba’s Phiten commercial needs to go to film school ASAP.

Sad to hear the November Stadium sendoff has been cancelled. http://www.amny.com/sports/bas.....7163.story

The dude in the pic sat couple of rows in front of us every Saturday game. I’m gonna miss seeing a lot of the familiar faces that we saw every Saturday. They were a mostly typical, loyal, intelligent bunch of Yankee fans. Not the sort that booed A Rod’s every move. Here’s hoping my compadres in the New Stadium are the same.

  13. Joey's Poodle October 8th, 2008 at 9:45 am

    Pete,

Mark Feinsand has reported that the November Stadium-closing concert has been cancelled by NYY. They’ll make a cash donation to the charity that was supposed to benefit.

“Mark Feinsand has reported that the November Stadium-closing concert has been cancelled by NYY. They’ll make a cash donation to the charity that was supposed to benefit”

    DID HE WRITE A REASON?

    ————————————————————–

Here’s the reason. Because no one cares. Except the fans but they don’t count for anything in Yankeeland.

  16. Bill from NJ October 8th, 2008 at 10:18 am

The cancellation is on the cover of the AM new york paper.

  17. Joey's Poodle October 8th, 2008 at 10:27 am

This seems to be all he got in terms of a reason (at least in the 4 a.m. version of his story):

“The Yankees were considering having a charitable event at Yankee Stadium,” Jason Zillo, the team’s media relations director, said in a statement Tuesday. “However, the Yankees realize that the final event at Yankee Stadium should be a baseball game, which in fact took place on Sept. 21, 2008.”

  18. Joey's Poodle October 8th, 2008 at 10:29 am

I suspect Yankee admin has a lot more on its mind right now than organizing a concert. There’s a lot of planning to be done if this off-season is to have a chance of leading into a successful season next year. It’s all hands on deck, I hope.

  19. harwood October 8th, 2008 at 10:40 am

“there is an instructional segment for parents featuring Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long.”

I imagine this is like an global economics instructional presented by President Bush.

  20. Buddy Biancalana October 8th, 2008 at 10:42 am

    harwood-

Huh? Oh, it’s Kevin Long’s fault. Jeez! Last I remembered the players swing the bats.

  21. VIGGY October 8th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
